Two held in Italy for forcing 10-year-old to marry

Two gypsy men were Monday arrested in Italy for allegedly abducting a 10-year-old girl and forcing her to marry one of them.

The two men from Montenegro – aged 48 and 23 – were charged with kidnapping and causing grievous bodily harm. They were arrested in Gugliano in Campania region.

The men allegedly abducted the girl from a gypsy camp, and tried to persuade her to marry one of the pair.

The girl’s mother called police after she was assaulted by the men when she tried to stop them from kidnapping her daughter.

Dawood’s alleged aide refused bail in 2009 extortion case

Khalil Ahmed, an alleged aide of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, was today refused bail by a Delhi court in a 2009 case of alleged attempt to extort money from a businessman here.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Vinod Yadav denied bail to Ahmed.

Khalil had sought bail on the ground that the Indian Penal Code provides a maximum punishment of seven years for the offence of extortion and he has spent a substantial period in judicial custody, pending trial.

Cong, TDP conspired to put Jagan in jail

YSR Congress’s President Y Vijayamma has alleged at an election rally that TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu and ruling Congress conspired to put her son and Kadapa MP Jaganmohan Reddy in jail.

Vijayamma campaigned Sunday night in Prathipadu and Macherla Assembly constituencies where bypolls would be held on June 12 along with other constituencies. She alleged Jagan was arrested just before the by-elections so as to keep him away from campaigning.

Azad rules out mid-term polls in the State

Union Health Minister and In-charge of AP Congress affairs Ghulam Nabi Azad has ruled out the possibilities of mid-terms polls in the State after by-elections.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, Azad said that the results of by-elections would not impact the State Government. He hoped that the Congress party would win all the seats where by-elections would be held on June 12. He described YSR Congress party president Jaganmohan Reddy as an inexperienced politician who lacks eligibility criteria to become a Chief Minister.

Congress Govt has failed on all fronts, alleges Naidu

Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu on Monday accused the Congress Government of having failed on all fronts.

Addressing a press conference at Kakinada, Naidu said that the administration has come to a halt at all levels and all systems need to be resorted. He said while the corruption was at its peak, the leaders of ruling party were found involved in many irregularities. He also accused the Congress and YSR Congress of indulging in ‘match fixing’ to stage a political drama in order to shield their leaders from corruption charges.

Speaker unhappy with MLAs’ resignations

Assembly Speaker Nadendla Manohar on Monday expressed displeasure over the frequent by-elections in the State.

Addressing a press conference on the completion of one year in office as the Speaker, Manohar said that compared to his predecessors he faced tremendous pressure due to frequent resignations by MLAs. He said by submitting resignations or getting disqualified, the MLAs were unable to meet the purpose for which they got elected. He said crores of rupees belonging to the State’s exchequer were lost due to 65 by-elections that were held in the State in the last six years.

HC advocate petitions NHRC against CBI in Jagan’s case

China issues travel advisory on India

In an apparent tit-for-tat move, China has cautioned its citizens against travelling to India, fearing danger because of unrest on the issues of petroleum prices and corruption.
An advisory by the Chinese Foreign Ministry, issued before External Affairs Minister S M Krishna’s visit to Beijing tomorrow to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit on June 6-7, advised Chinese citizens in India to guard against the unrest in many places and requested them to confirm their itinerary with related agencies to avoid delays.

Pradesh Congress Committee spokesperson B Kamalakar Rao on Monday described YSR Congress honorary president Vijayamma as a political immature personality and alleged that she too might have played a role in helping her son Jaganmohan Reddy accumulate illegal wealth.

Prostitution racket busted, 17 arrested: police

Police claim top have busted a prostitution racket in the city with the arrest of seventeen people, including nine women.

Following a tip off, they were arrested from a house in Jawahar Nagar locality last evening, police said today.

The accused have been booked under relevant sections of the Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act, they added.

Sonia authorised to choose Presidential, VP nominees

The Congress Working Committee (CWC) today authorised party President Sonia Gandhi to decide on the candidates for the coming Presidential and Vice Presidential elections.

The resolution, authorising her, was interestingly moved by Finance Minister and senior leader Pranab Mukherjee, who is himself considered the front runner in the race for the President’s post.

The resolution was adopted at the day-long meeting of the CWC, chaired by Gandhi, unanimously, party sources said.

PM hits out at Team Anna, Ramdev

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday rejected the charges of Team Anna that the government had “swindled unbelievable amounts” of money and hit out at yoga guru Ramdev for claiming that “astronomical” sums of black money can be brought back from other countries in one stroke.

Madhya Pradesh 3rd in country in MNREGA funds expenditure

(Pervez Bari) The Bharatiya Janata Party ruled Madhya Pradesh has been placed at the third place in the country in respect of expenditure of funds under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Schemes during the year 2011-12.

Madhya Pradesh is ahead of Rajasthan, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, and Bihar in respect of expenditure under the scheme.

10 dead, 45 wounded in Iraq suicide bombing

At least 10 people were killed and over 45 wounded Monday when a suicide bomber blew up his car packed with explosives in Baghdad, authorities said.

The attack occurred at about 10:45 a.m. when the suicide bomber drove his explosives-laden car into the entrance of the Shiite endowment office in Bab al-Mu’tham district, an interior ministry source said.

The powerful blast destroyed part of the office building.

Xinhua correspondent in central Baghdad heard a powerful explosion and saw a plume of black smoke rise above the area.

Madhya Pradesh doctors threaten mass leave

Health services in Madhya Pradesh may be paralyzed if government doctors carry out their threat to resign en masse July 1 to press for higher salaries.

Government doctors claim that despite Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s repeated assurances of granting four-tier pay scales to doctors, the finance and health departments have not done so.

Madhya Pradesh Medical Officers Association president Lalit Shrivastava said the cabinet approved a four-tier pay structure for government doctors way back in 2008.

“Subsequently some senior doctors started receiving hiked salaries,” he said.

Kudankulam inspections on after removal of dummy fuel

The first reactor of the two 1,000 MW protest-hit Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KNPP) is undergoing inspection by atomic experts after allowing the removal of all the dummy fuel assemblies, an official said Monday.

“All the dummy fuel assemblies were removed Saturday. Now the inspection of the reactor systems are on by experts from India and overseas,” a senior official of the Nuclear Power Corp of India Ltd (NPCIL) told IANS.

Dummy fuel is similar to the real fuel in terms of specifications but without enriched uranium.

BJP backs Ramdev’s movement

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Monday backed Baba Ramdev’s movement against black money, with the yoga guru meeting party president Nitin Gadkari at his residence here.

“Baba Ramdev’s fight against black money is very important. We as the party support Baba Ramdev in this ‘andolan’ (movement). This is an agitation above party lines; this is for the benefit of the country,” Gadkari said after the meeting Monday.

The BJP president also bowed down to touch Ramdev’s feet. He later said it was a gesture of respect and he was following Indian culture.

Congress intensifies attack on Jagan in by-poll campaign
