TDP general secretary Aravind Kumar Goud today said that YSRCP chief Jagan Mohan Reddy has emerged as No. 1 among the world’s top 10 most corrupt persons, as per the Global Corruption Report of 2004. Jagan also brought dubious distinction to Andhra Pradesh as most corrupt State in the world, he added.

China adds 60 million hectares of forest

China, in moves to fight climate change, has increased the total forest area to 195 million hectares from 134 million hectares in 1992 — a net gain of 60 million hectares or 600,000 sq km within a period of 20 years.

China currently has 61.68 million hectares of man-made forests, the most in the world.

The country aims to expand its total forest area by 40 million hectares from 2005 to 2020, and will convert 1.07 million hectares of farmland into forests during its 12th Five-year Plan period (2011-2015), Xinhua news agency reported.

2 held for forcing marry 10 year old girl in Italy

Two gypsy men were Monday arrested in Italy for allegedly abducting a 10-year-old girl and forcing her to marry one of them.

The two men from Montenegro – aged 48 and 23 – were charged with kidnapping and causing grievous bodily harm. They were arrested in Gugliano in Campania region.

The men allegedly abducted the girl from a gypsy camp, and tried to persuade her to marry one of the pair.

The girl’s mother called police after she was assaulted by the men when she tried to stop them from kidnapping her daughter.

Gambhir’s cousin, uncle arrested in road rage incident

Cricketer Gautam Gambhir’s cousin and uncle were arrested Monday for beating a man in a road rage incident on May 24, police said.

Raghav Gambhir, 25, and his uncle Mahendra Pal Manchanda, 60, were arrested Monday from Dhaula Kuan and produced before a district court in connection with the road rage incident.

The Delhi court sent them to 14 days judicial custody, police said.

The duo had beaten up a taxi driver, Jaspal Singh, on May 23-24 night at Pusa Road after Singh’s car grazed against their vehicle.

Queen’s husband Prince Philip hospitalized due to infection

Queen Elizabeth II’s husband Prince Philip was taken to a hospital in London on Monday afternoon after developing a bladder infection, forcing him to miss the rest of the celebrations to mark the Queen’s diamond jubilee.

Buckingham Palace said the 90-year-old prince was taken from Windsor Castle to the private King Edward VII Hospital in London as a precautionary measure. “Prince Philip will remain in hospital under observation for a few days,” the palace said in a statement, adding that the bladder infection is being assessed and treated.

Red ribbon train arrives in city

The HIV/AIDS awareness train Red Ribbon Express arrived at Secunderabad today.

It may be mentioned here that the Union Health Ministry has launched the Red Ribbon Express to create awareness on AIDS/ HIV among the people. The train, which would go round the country within a year, arrived here on Monday for a two-day stay. It will remain stationed in the Secunderabad Railway Station on Platform No. 10.

US stocks end mixed after heavy sell-off

US stocks ended mixed Monday after major indexes suffered severe sell-off in the previous session.

When the market closed, the Dow Jones industrial average lost 17.11 points, or 0.14 percent, at 12,101.46, Xinhua reported.

The Standard & Poor’s 500 added 0.14 points, or 0.01 percent, to 1,278.18. The Nasdaq Composite Index rose 12.53 points, or 0.46 percent, to 2,760.01.

NATO, New Zealand sign cooperation deal

New Zealand and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) have signed an agreement to strengthen cooperation.

New Zealand Prime Minister John Key and NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen signed the Individual Partnership and Co-operation Programme Arrangement at a ceremony at NATO’s headquarters in Brussels, said a statement from Key’s office Tuesday.

Madonna may face lawsuit in France over Nazi symbol

France’s National Front party has threatened to sue American pop diva Madonna over the use of Nazi swastika in depiction of party leader Marine Le Pen.

Madonna kicked off her MDNA Tour in Israel’s Tel Aviv last Thursday to promote her new album as well as peace between Israelis and Palestinians.

An image of Le Pen with a swastika on her forehead appeared on a giant screen during the concert, France 3 television reported.

Man fatally hangs two sons and himself

In a bizarre incident, one Shaik Ayub Ali hanged to death his two sons before ending his life in similar fashion at Pochamma Basti in Bagh Amberpet here on Monday. The incident benumbed the residents of the locality.

Sheikh Ayub Ali with his wife and two sons was living in the Pochamma Basti in a rented house since a year. Ali’s wife deserted him some six months ago. He was living with his two sons.

20 militants killed in Pakistan

At least 20 militants were killed in a counter-attack Tuesday after they raided an army checkpost in Pakistan.

The fighting erupted in Salala area of northwest Pakistan. Four soldiers were injured, Xinhua reported.

Jagan will be jailed for 17 years: Chandrababu

TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu has said that YSR Congress chief Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy would go to jail for 17 years if crimes against him were proved. Naidu gave Jagan three years more of jail sentence than Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy, who said Jagan would go to jail for 14 years.

Congress has no role in CBI probe: CM

Speaking in the road shows, Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy has said that neither the Congress nor his government had anything to do with the CBI inquiry into Jagan’s assets or his arrest. He said Jagan’s mother Vijayamma and other family members were blaming the Congress only for electoral benefits. He reminded the people that CBI started the investigation on the directions of the High Court and not the Congress.

“I remember when Farah Khan offered me ‘Kaaffirana’… I had asked her what the song is all about, the concept and what look will I have. Violence at Bolpur stn after RPF jawan kills Hawker

Violence erupted at Bolpur railway station in Birbhum district today after a hawker was allegedly beaten to death by a RPF jawan. Sources said the jawan after an argument with Tapan Das (30), a tea stall owner, started beating him mercilessly leading to his death.

Following Tapan’s death, other hawkers and the victim’s family members vandalised the station and even squatted on the tracks for about an hour. Local police officials, who intervened to control the agitating people, were also manhandled by the mob and thier vehicles were set on fire.

TDP complains to CEO about ‘Bribing’ voters
