Assad orders formation of new government

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad ordered former agriculture minister Riyad Farid Hijab to form a new government for the conflict-stricken country, state-run SANA news agency reported Wednesday.

The formation of a new government for the violence-torn country came after the recent parliamentary elections, the first under the country’s new constitution that allows a multi-party law and ends the monopoly of power by the ruling al-Baath party, reported Xinhua.

Krishna meets China’s would-be PM

Indian External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna Wednesday met China’s Vice Premier Li Keqiang, who is expected to succeed Premier Wen Jiabao next year, and discussed a host of bilateral issues.

Krishna and Li met in the Great Hall of the People on the sidelines of the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).

They reviewed trust-building initiatives sealed in March, including the proposal for a maritime dialogue, the border mechanism and intensification of economic and trade ties.

Cong leaders apprise PM about “total collapse” of law in Bihar

Alleging “total collapse” of law and order in Nitish Kumar-led Bihar, a delegation of some state Congress leaders today met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh seeking his “urgent intervention” into the matter.

The delegation was led by Bihar Congress media department in-charge Ranjeet Ranjan, wife of former Purnea MP Rajesh Yadav alias Pappu Yadav and Bihar Youth Congress president Lalan Kumar. Party MLA Afaq Alam was also in the delegation.

CBI grills Jagan again

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) continued interrogation of YSR Congress Party President Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on the fourth day of the five-day custody today, in connection with the disproportionate assets case against him.
The CBI team took him Mr Jagan to its office at Koti at 1025 hours. The CBI team led by its Joint Director V V Lakshminarayana grilled Mr Jagan mainly on the land allotments to Vanpic during his father Y S Raja Sekhara

Pak military purse in 2012-13 may be much higher than budgeted

Pakistan’s actual spending on defence during fiscal 2012-13 may be as high as Rs 913 billion, almost double the official allocation of Rs 545 billion.

The actual spending on defence could amount to 31 per cent of the next fiscal year’s budget of Rs 2.96 trillion, The Express Tribune reported today.

Besides the official budget, an additional amount will be provided to the military out of its share in the Coalition Support Fund expected to be disbursed by the US for expenses on the war on terror.

First husband files case against MLA Rumi Nath

Controversial MLA Rumi Nath’s first husband has filed a case in Silchar against her and her second husband, accusing them of bigamy, illicit relation as well as theft.

Rakesh Singh, a Uttar Pradesh-based physician, who married Nath four years back and has a two-year-old daugther with her, had earlier lodged an FIR with the police suspecting that his wife was abducted, police sources said here on Wednesday.

Nath had allegedly eloped with Jacky Zakir last month and resurfaced in Guwahati last weekend after being in hiding for several weeks.

Govt virtually shuts doors on agitating AI pilots

Virtually shutting the doors on the striking Air India pilots, Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh today said the sacked cockpit crew could return only if they applied afresh when the ailing national carrier advertised for inducting more of them.

“As far as we are concerned, the pilot’s strike is over. If the (striking) pilots don’t accept Dharmadhikari report which is part of the airline’s turnaround plan, I don’t think there is any point in their coming back….If terminated pilots want to come back, they will have to apply afresh,” Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh told reporters here.

Election Commission seized 41 crore

According to statement made by Chief Electoral officer Mr. Bhanwarlal, during by election campaign Rs. 38 crore cash and 30 kg gold, 13 kg Silver worth 3 crore were seized. In addition to it 1.74 lakh litres of liquour and 539 vehicles were seized.

51514 persons were banned in police stations. Cases were registered against 10,840 persons. 4547 persons were arrested. CEO told that specific instructions have been issued to Superintendents of Police to be vigilant at check posts. He said that because of the alertness of police officials seizure was possible on a large scale.

(Siasat News): A man who was fed up of his wife’s suspicious character and the daily arguments, committed suicide. This incident occurred in Narsingi police station limits.

Resident of Shanti Nagar slum area, 38-year-old Kashaiah, poured kerosene on his body and set himself ablaze. He was immediately shifted to the hospital where he died during the treatment.
