Heat wave conditions would prevail in the districts of East and West Godavari, Guntur and Krishna of Coastal Andhra Pradesh during next 24 hours. The Met Office here today said isolated rain or thundershowers would occur over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Rayalaseema over next 48 hours.

Plane crash victim’s father leaves for Nigeria

The father of a computer engineer from Kerala, who died in a plane crash in Nigeria Sunday, has left for the west African country to bring back his son’s body.

Rijo Eldos from Neriamangalam in Idukki district was among the 153 victims on board the Dana Air flight that crashed in the city of Lagos.

Speaking to IANS, the family’s neighbour Jithu said K. Eldos left for Nigeria to see if Rijo’s body could be brought back.

“We were told that 58 bodies had been recovered but they could be identified only after DNA tests,” he said.

SIT to immediately take over investigation: Dalal

Haryana Director General of Police Ranjiv Singh Dalal today said a Special Investigation Team (SIT) will immediately take over the investigation which is presently being conducted by Rohtak police in the case concerning ‘Apna Ghar’ NGO in Rohtak. The SIT is headed by Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Mohinder Singh Mann.

Cell phone use by Govt staff restricted

The Kerala Government has issued direction restricting the use of mobile phone by the staff in Government offices. Official sources said the restriction was in the wake of citing inconvenience to the public visting Government offices for various purposes. ‘The private calls by the staff would be restricted. However, they could use mobile phones only in urgent situations, they said. UNI

ACB conduct raids on res, offices of Liquor syndicate leaders

The Anti-Corruption Bureau raided residences and offices of liquor syndicate owners across Andhra Pradesh today and registered 22 cases relating to the fraud committed in auction of liquor shops in various Districts. An ACB release from Director General B Prasada Rao said the investigation revealed few liquor syndicate people used the names of poor white card holders, invested crores as earnest money deposit and obtained licences of A4 wine shops by subverting the legal process and ran the liquor trade in collusion with officials. The ACB arrested 20 persons in this connection.

Team India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni today said he is fortunate to live his dreams of becoming a member of the armed force. Inaugurating a newly-constructed army ground in Leh, Dhoni, who is the goodwill ambassador of the Indian army, said he was interested in joining Army before coming to cricket but instead joined Indian railway. ‘I am fortunate that now I am able to be a part of Indian Army. HC closes petition on security to Jagan

The Andhra Pradesh High Court today closed the petition filed by YSR Congress Party President Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy’s wife Y S Bharati who sought enhancement of security in the Chanchalguda Jail where he was lodged since May 28 in the disproportionate assets case against him. Mr Justice B Chandra Kumar, who heard the petition after Ms Bharati had stated that proper security was not being given to her husband, had sought an explanation from Prison officials.

Police slaps case against Surekha

The Parkala police today registered a case against YSR Congress Party Candidate Konda Surekha on the charge of allegedly distributing money to the voters in the assembly constituency where the bypoll will be held on June 12. According to police, Ms Surekha, while conducting door-to-door campaign in Narlapur Village,had allegedly distributed Rs 500 cash each alongwith pamphlets to several voters. Police said investigation has began on the issue.

Azad announces additional Rs 2 cr for G B Pant hospital

BJP cries foul over nominee’s failure to file papers

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Wednesday accused the ruling Samajwadi Party (SP) in Uttar Pradesh of preventing its candidate for the Kannauj Lok Sabha bypoll from reaching the collectorate to file his nomination papers.

State party president Laxmikant Bajpayi said party candidate Jagdev Singh Yadav was physically obstructed by SP workers from reaching the collectorate before the Wednesday deadline for the June 24 bypoll.

The party also filed a complaint before election commission officials in Lucknow.

The BJP Tuesday declared that it would not field a candidate for the bypoll.

Jharkhand girl approaches HC

A 19-year-old girl from Jharkhand today approached the Delhi High Court seeking police protection alleging her parents were not allowing her to pursue further studies after she completed class-XII last year. Justice Vipin Sanghi summoned the girl’s elder brother, who is staying in Delhi, to know how she has been staying alone in the city since May, 2011, against the wish of her parents and posted the matter for hearing on June 18.

K K Manan, lawyer appearing for the girl told the court that she has been staying as a Paying Guest in Mukherjee Nagar and preparing for banking examinations.

GHMC to elect 15 Standing Committee members on Thursday

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation will hold elections on Thursday to elect 15 members of the Standing Committee.

Going by the strength the parties enjoy in the corporation and due to the alliance between the Congress and MIM, the election of eight members from the Congress party and seven from the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen looks certain. But giving scope to cross-voting, the Congress has fielded 10 members and two corporators from the TDP too are contesting the elections.

EC seeks reports on TRS taking pledge from voters

Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwarlal on Wednesday directed the Warangal District Election Officer to submit a report on the allegations that the Telangana Rashstra Samithi was taking a pledge from the voters to vote for their party in Parkal by-elections.

Separate complaints were lodged by YSR Congress party and Telangana Vidyarthi Sangham against the TRS. The CEO said that the DEO has been asked to enquire into the matter and send a report on the issue.

Kadinada MLA quizzed by CBI over Janani Infra investments

Kakinada MLA Dwarampudi Chandrasekhar Reddy on Wednesday said that the CBI has questioned him over the investments made by industrialists and individuals in Janani Infra, one of the group companies owned by Kadapa MP Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Talking to media persons after facing the questioning from the CBI at Dilkusha Guest House for the second consecutive day, Chandrasekhar Reddy said that he gave satisfactory replies to the all questions posed by the CBI. He claimed that the CBI questioned him as a ‘witness’ and not an ‘accused’ in the disproportionate assets case.

Fish medicine to be administered from June 8

The State Government on Wednesday permitted Bathini Brothers of Dhoodhbowli to distribute the fish medicine, which claims to have miraculous cures for asthma and respiratory illnesses, at the Exhibition Grounds in Nampally on June 8 and 9.

The famous Bathini Brothers have been administering fish medicine free of cost for the past 163 years.

CM to tour West Godavari district on Thursday

Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy will tour the West Godavari district on Thursday.

According to a media release by the Chief Minister’s Office, Kiran Kumar Reddy will reach Gannavaram Airport by regular flight at 5.00 pm from Hyderabad on Thursday. After brief stay, he will leave for West Godavari district by helicopter and reach helipad at Government Junior College at Koyyalagudem at 6.00 pm. He will participate in locally arranged programmes at Koyyalagudem from 6.10 pm to 8.00 pm.
