Aarushi trial: SC dismisses Nupur’s review plea

The Supreme Court dismissed a petition filed by dentist Nupur Talwar seeking bail and review of its order of allowing her criminal prosecution in the twin murder case of her daughter Aarushi and domestic help Hemraj.

A bench of Justices AK Patnaik and JS Khehar in a short order said that it finds “no merit” in the review petition.

Nupur had claimed that she was not asking for a clean chit in the murder case but wanted a direction to the CBI to re-investigate the case. The CBI had strongly opposed her pleas.

Kashmiri Separatists across LoC planning Million March ‘Will meet each other at Keran’

Separatist leadership on either side of the Line of control is organizing a millon march on June 10 to raise Kashmir issue throughout the world and press for its resolution. Separatist leader Hashim Qureshi will lead the march from the Indian side of LoC which will meet the representatives from Northern areas and Pakistan administered Kashmir at Keran in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

Four arrested for KAS officer Mahantesh’s murder

Four persons have been arrested in connection with the murder of a Karnataka Administrative Service (KAS) officer, said to be a whistleblower in some controversial land allotments by cooperative societies.

City Crime Branch police arrested the four persons, police said declining to give further details.

48-year old Mahantesh was attacked by unidentified assailants near a hotel here on May 15 and succumbed to injuries five days later at a private hospital.

India pitches for more constructive role in SCO

India on Thursday pitched for a “larger and more constructive role” in the six-nation Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) as a full member and underlined that the grouping is “a promising alternative regional platform” to help stabilise Afghanistan.

“As we have emphasised at various SCO fora, India would be happy to play a larger, wider and more constructive role in the SCO as a full member, as and when the organisation finalises the expansion modalities,” external affairs minister SM Krishna said at the 12th SCO summit at the Great Hall of People in Beijing.

Naval war room leak case: CBI raids premises of accused

The CBI on Thursday carried out searches at the premises of Naval war room leak case accused Abhishek Verma after registering a fresh case against him.

The agency teams carried out searches at 10 locations in Delhi and Gurgaon, CBI sources said. They said the case was
registered on the allegation that Verma took huge amount of money to get a Swiss defence company out of government’s blacklist.

They claimed that teams have collected some crucial information and documents.

A.P. gets 916 more Hajis quota

(Siasat News) Central Hajj Committee added 919 more Hajis to the A.P. Hajj quota to make it 6680. Dr. Shakir Hussain, CEO of Central Hajj Committee informed that due to the surplus seats which remained vacant after the draws were held in other states, the Central Hajj Committee decided to allot 916 more seats for the Hajj pilgrims of A.P. These seats will be allotted to the Hajj pilgrims of waiting list numbers from 1 to 916. He clarified that in the allotment of extra seats, there is no role of any middlemen. Only the Central Hajj Committee decides all such matters.

C.M. and opposition leader face public wrath

(Siasat News) Chief Minister Mr. N. Kiran Kumar Reddy who is campaigning for Congress candidates had to pay the heavey price for making remarks against Mr. Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. Taking by elections as prestige issue, the C.M. is struggling hard to win at least two assembly seats.

Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy was conducting the road show in Yemmiiganur Assembly constituency in Kurnool District. Angry with the adverse remarks made by the C.M., people threw chappals on his car. Mr. Chiranjeevi was also there in C.M.’s care at that time.

Attempt to disrupt peaceful atmosphere by offering pooja

(Siasat News) Peepal branches obstructing the extension and construction work of Masjid Roshan situated at Old Kabootar Khana were cut. Under the pretext of desecrating the piety of the peepal tree some communal minded miscreants made an attempt to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere of the city, but due to timely intervention by the police any untoward incident could be averted. The Mosque committee started the construction work of three Malgies but the branches of the Peepal trees were obstructing the construction work. After cutting the branches of the tree, the roof was laid.

Jagan asks for opportunity to speak to the Media

The YSR Congress Chief Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has filed a writ petition in the high court asking for an opportunity to speak to the media in view of the ongoing by-elections.

He sought an opportunity to have his voice heard by the people, through the print and electronic media. He has asked the court to provide him his ‘Right to Express’, as enshrined in the article 19 (1) of the constitution.

Kashmir Initiative: Centre for policy analysis

The Centre for Policy Analysis, in collaboration with Action Aid, India and Focus on the Global South, organized a Youth Convention in Srinagar on June 2,2012 as a sequel to a similar Convention on the Democratic Rights of Kashmiri Youth held in New Delhi in March,2012. Fire in finance ministry office, no casualties

A fire broke out in two rooms of the finance ministry office at North Block here early Thursday. While no casualties have been reported, office records were lost in the blaze, officials said.

“We got a call around 5.45 a.m. Two rooms – room no. 14 and 15 were gutted in fire,” said an official from fire department.

“Six fire tenders were rushed to the spot. No casualties are reported,” the official added.

According to the fire department, other than office records, computers and furniture were gutted in the fire.

Russia warns US on Georgia support

Russia has warned the US over the latter’s support to Georgia in its efforts to spread propaganda.

The US administration does not fully appreciate the consequences of its support for Georgia’s efforts to propagandise the “Russian occupation of Georgia”, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Alexander Lukashevich said Wednesday.

“Highly placed American representatives are once again making loud statements in support of [Georgian president] Mikheil Saakashvili, repeating word for word a lying thesis of his propaganda on the “Russian occupation of Georgia,” he said.

India’s S. Rajan re-elected to UN sea body

In a keenly contested election, India’s candidate Dr. S. Rajan, has been re-elected to the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf (CLCS) for a five-year term from 2012-17.

With eight candidates in the fray for five seats in the Asia-Pacific group, Rajan was elected Wednesday in the first round obtaining 112 of the 161 valid votes cast at a meeting of the State Parties to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

Philippines asks people to report child labour online

The Philippines, which had reported the presence of 4.2 million child workers a decade ago, has now set up a website where the public could report child labour incidents in the country.

Rosalinda Baldoz, secretary in the department of labour and employment, said people can now use the newly launched Child Labour Knowledge Sharing System (CLKSS) website to report child labour activities or alleged perpetrators, in order to support the anti-child labour campaign of the government.

Man accused of raping minor walks free

A father of two, accused of kidnapping and raping a minor, has been allowed to walk free by a Delhi court which only found him guilty of taking away the victim out of lawful guardianship of her parents and awarded him imprisonment he had already undergone during trial.

32-year-old Pawan, a resident of Najafgarh in west Delhi who is married with two children, was acquitted for the offence of raping the 15-year-old girl by the court which found several “contradictions” in the evidence produced by the prosecution.

Drone attacks will continue in Pak:Panetta

Ignoring Pakistan’s protests, the US on Wednesday said the drone attacks against al Qaeda will continue in that country with which it has “often frustrating” and “desperate” relationship.

“We have made it very clear to Pakistani leaders that we will continue to defend ourselves,” Defence Secretary Leon Panetta said during an interaction at the Institute of Defence Studies and Analyses (IDSA) here.
