Air pollution ups risk of repeated heart attacks by 40pc

High pollution increases the risk of repeated heart attacks in cardiac patients by over 40 percent, a Tel Aviv University researcher has claimed.

Air pollution, which posed a serious danger to the environment, is also a major health risk, associated with respiratory infections, lung cancer and heart disease.

The researcher has concluded that not only does air pollution impact cardiac events such as heart attack and stroke, but it also causes repeated episodes over the long term.

June 11, last date for payment of advance Hajj amount

Executive officer Member secretary convenor AP Hajj committee Hyderabad has informed all the selected Hajj aspirants that the last date for payment of advance Hajj amount. Rs 51000, at SBI is June 11.

It has been stated in a press notification that the Hajj aspirants have to submit original passport along with the pay in slip of amount and colour photograph (3.5×3.5) on white background.

The amount has to be paid in Hajj Committee of India’s current account No. “Fee Type-25” maintained with SBI through core banking system.

Stress may retard brain development in children, altering the growth of a specific part and the abilities tied to it, researchers say.

“There has been a lot of work on animals linking both acute and chronic stress to changes in a part of the brain called the prefrontal cortex, which is involved in complex cognitive abilities like holding on to important information for quick recall and use,” says study co-author Jamie Hanson of Wisconsin-Madison, US.

Aamir Khan refuses to apologize to doctors, ready to face legal action

Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan today refused to apologize to the Indian Medical Association which has accused him of defaming the medical profession through his popular TV show Satyamev Jayate and said he is ready to face any legal action threatened by it.

“I am very comfortable if they (IMA) plan to take legal action if they feel that I have done something wrong. Of course, the courts are available for them. My answer is no, I will not be apologizing,” Aamir told to a news channel.

The actor denied IMA’s charge of defaming and insulting the medical profession.

HCL launches BPO Delivery Centre in Philippines

HCL Technologies Ltd today announced the opening of its Global Delivery Centre for business process outsourcing (BPO) services in Quezon City, Manila, Philippines.

This centre which will employ 400 professionals, expands HCL’s Integrated Global Delivery Model (IGDM) to create global delivery capability for its clients, the IT firm said in a statement here.

HCL will leverage Philippine’s time zone advantage to service a growing number of its global BPO customers in financial services, healthcare & pharma, MPE and other industries, the statement said.

‘Post Muslim cop in high minority populace areas’

Accepting a key recommendation of the Sachar Committee, the Centre has asked the states to appoint at least one Muslim officer in police stations in areas having high concentration of Muslim population.

In a communication to Chief Secretaries of all states, Union Home Secretary RK Singh asked them to send a status report on it by the end of June.

The missive was sent after the Home Ministry found that many states have not yet fully implemented one of the key recommendations of the Sachar Committee report.

Court adjourns hearing on ED’s plea in Jagan, OMC cases

A special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court Thursday adjourned hearing on a petition of the Enforcement Directorate (ED), seeking permission to question the accused in three high profile cases including a case relating to amassing of illegal wealth against jailed YSR Congress leader Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy.

The special CBI court adjourned the hearing on the ED petition to June 14.

The court also adjourned the hearing on the petition of industrialist Nimmagadda Prasad, who is also in jail in the same case.

HC declines to dismiss election petition against Chidambaram

The Madras High Court today declined to dismiss a petition challenging the election of Union Home Minister P Chidambaram to the Lok Sabha in 2009 but struck down two charges of malpractices against him.

Disposing of a plea by Chidambaram seeking dismissal of the petition filed by AIADMK’s Raja Kannappan, who lost to him from Sivaganga constituency by a narrow margin of 3,354 votes, Justice K Venkatraman of the Madurai Bench of the High Court ordered removal of two of the 29 charges.

Shilpa Shetty’s son named Viaan

Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty’s new born son has a name finally. The two and a half week old has been christened Viaan Raj Kundra.

The 36-year-old actress, who gave birth to her first son with industrialist husband Raj Kundra on May 21, took to Twitter to announce the news.

“Hey tweetos, Yes its official, Did the naming ceremony today, our son is christened Viaan Raj Kundra. It means Full of life/energy,” she posted.

Father Raj Kundra also introduced the new born to the micro-blogging site.

Cabinet defers decision on pension reforms bill

Amid differences among allies, the government today deferred a decision on the changes in the crucial Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority Bill, 2011.

“It (the PFRDA Bill) was taken up and deferred”, said a Minister after the Cabinet meeting here.

RIL to invest Rs 1 lakh cr in core biz in next 4-5 yrs

Reliance Industries today announced investment of Rs 100,000 crore in core businesses of petrochem and oil and gas as well as in new sectors of retail and telecom, to double operating profits in 4-5 years.

Addressing company shareholders, RIL Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani said new projects in petrochemicals and refinery business would come online in the next 2 to 3 years.

Investments in refinery downstream would add 30-40 per cent to margins while retail business would be a significant and profitable business for RIL within 3 years, he said.

Travel agent forges signature of Shahnawaz Hussain

A travel agent has allegedly forged the signature of senior BJP MP Shahnawaz Hussain for confirming a waitlisted train ticket, police said today.

The incident came to light on June five when Rajesh Verma, Private Secretary to Hussain, complained to police on behalf of the MP.

In the complaint, Verma wrote that someone has forged the letter head and signature of Hussain to get a train ticket confirmed through emergency quota and submitted it to Divisional Railway Manager in Ambala.
