At the times when the whole city especially slum areas of old city are hit by severe scarcity of water, several gallon water is wasted duet to carelessness of water board.

According to local sources several water pipelines have been corroded and the water is wasted due to leakage from corroded pipelines.

In majority of the old city areas water is supplied once in 4 days intermittently hence the locals are forced to use the water being leaked from the pipelines.

Four killed in Mumbai bakery cylinder blast

At least four people were killed and 29 others injured in a fire and multiple blasts of cooking gas cylinders in a bakery in a suburb here, an official said.

The fire broke out in Trombay at a bakery near Cheetah Camp area in north-east Mumbai, an official from municipal disaster management cell told IANS.

According to eyewitnesses, the fire broke out after a cylinder burst in the bakery, triggering blasts of many other cylinders. A few residences nearby also caught fire. Four people were killed and 29 others were injured in the conflagration.

Ramdev, Anna Hazare to sit on fast on Sunday

Yoga guru Baba Ramdev will sit on a day-long fast against corruption and black money in the capital Sunday (June 3). Social activist Anna Hazare will also join him, a statement said.

“Accompanied by 3,000 supporters and Anna Hazare, Ramdev will reach Jantar Mantar Sunday at 10am and sit on a day-long fast against black money and corruption,” said the statement Wednesday.

Hazare and Ramdev would reach the fast venue after paying homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat, it said.

Gold drops Rs 180 to Rs 29,470 per 10 gms

Both the precious metals, gold and silver tumbled on the bullion market today on heavy selling by stockists, triggered a weak trend in overseas markets.

While gold dropped by Rs 180 to Rs 29,470 per 10 gm, silver lost Rs 850 to Rs 53,900 per kg on poor demand at prevailing higher levels, driven by weak global trend.

Sentiment turned bearish after gold in international markets dropped to one week-low as concern that the debt crisis in Europe was escalating strengthened the dollar as a safe haven.

JEE from next academic year

A Joint Entrance Examination will be held from the next academic year for admission into undergraduate engineering courses.

Indian Institute of Technology IIT is preparing a separate merit list for candidates. Marks secured in 12th class will be considered.

The proposal to conduct Joint Entrance Examination was approved in a joint meeting of Indian Institutes of Technology IITs, National Institutes of Technology NITs, Indian Institutes of Information Technology IIITs and other central educational institutions.

6 Uzbek women arrested in call-girl racket

Delhi Police today claimed to have smashed a high profile call-girl racket with the arrest of six young women from Uzbekistan.

The racket was being run from a rented accommodation in Chhaterpur Farms in South Delhi, Sanjay Kumar Jain, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), said.

“Six women, including a woman pimp, have been arrested yesterday. The pimp has been staying in India since 2009 after visa extension on various grounds. She facilitated her other colleagues to come over and stay in Delhi on a tourist visa.

Girl burnt alive for refusing to marry

Naawada: In a bizarre incident, a girl was burnt alive by unidentified persons after she refused to marry a man who demanded dowry at Bhadauni village in Bihar’s Nawada district today, police said.

Sources revealed that the girl had refused to marry a man following dowry demand.

Unidentified persons then overpowered her, sprinkled kerosene and set her on fire, sources said adding the injured girl was later admitted to a government hospital here where she succumbed to serious burns, they said.

Sachin to take oath as RS member on June 4

Tendulkar, who turned 39 recently and was nominated to the Upper House in April, is scheduled to take oath as member in the chamber of Chairman Hamid Ansari, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Rajiv Shukla said on Wednesday.

Two others–actress Rekha and industrialist Anu Aga–who were nominated to Rajya Sabha along with Tendulkar had already taken oath earlier this month when the House was in session.

Tendulkar was busy with the IPL season, which had just ended earlier this week.

Ind-Pak series likely in Dec-Jan

After endless meetings between the officials of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the chances for a few limited-overs matches between the two countries grew stronger.

According to a report in DNA, BCCI and PCB officials have found a vacant slot between December 23 and January 10 to squeeze in a few limited-overs matches to be played in India. It could be three limited-overs matches, or a couple of ODIs and a Twenty20 match, the report added.

CBSE Class 12th results declared

CBSE Class 12th student result 2012 has been declared. 87% students in Hyderabad and Secunderabad passed the exams. Pass percentage of girls is higher than the boys.

2397 girls appeared in the exams of which 2169 passed the exams while altogether 3841 boys had appeared in the exams.

Rekha to star in Umrao Jaan sequel?

The makers of the Rekha-starrer 1981 film Umrao Jaan, are contemplating to make a sequel to the original film. Umrao Jaan, which was directed by Muzaffar Ali, was based on the Urdu novel Umrao Jaan Ada (1905), written by Mirza Hadi Ruswa.

The film was based on the life of famous Lucknow courtesan. Rekha’s performance as the central character in the film had won her first National Award.

Now, director Muzaffar Ali and one of the writers of the film Javed Siddiqui are contemplating to make a sequel.

Army raids Pak cricketer Umar Gul`s house

Pakistan Army commandos raided cricketer Umar Gul`s house in Peshawar and arrested his brother on charges of harbouring a wanted militant, according to a media report on Wednesday.

The fast bowler`s brother, Meraj, was arrested with two other men on charges of providing shelter to his uncle, Haji Daly, believed to be an active member of the banned Lashkar-e-Islam, The Express Tribune reported.

A local resident told the newspaper that a team of commandos raided the house yesterday.

A special court here on Wednesday sent former Andhra Pradesh minister Mopidevi Venkataramna to prison in YSR Congress leader YS Jaganmohan Reddy’s corruption case.

Venkataramna was produced in the CBI court after his five-day CBI custody ended Tuesday. He was shifted to the Chanchalguda Central Jail, where Jaganmohan Reddy and two other accused are lodged.

The court accepted his plea to treat him as a special category prisoner. Venkataramna also moved a bail petition, the hearing on which was adjourned to Thursday.

Mom pushes minor daughters into flesh trade, arrested

A mother, who sent her two minor daughters to solicit customers, along with a woman pimp was arrested by the Mumbai police’s social service branch from Sion.

Last Friday, assistant commissioner of police Vasant Dhoble sent a fake customer to the accused and busted the racket run by the two women. “We raided a room at Prerna Municipality Kamgar Chawl, where the accused had let out her mezzanine floor and sent her two minor daughters (11 and 13) for soliciting customers. The customers were sent by her neighbour for Rs 4,000,” said Dhoble.
