Famous Bollywood flim star Mr.Amir Khan suddenly made his appearance in Hyderabad to attend a function held at National Police Academy where he met the trainee police officers.

He spoke to them in connection with his TV programme “Satyameva Jayate”.This programme has become such a popular TV show that it left behind “Kaun Banega Correpathi”conducted by Amitabh Bachan.

Amir Khan was to share his exprencines with the trainee officers so that it will facilitate in the work relating to social upliftment.

IPL player Luke Pomersbach arrested for molestation

Indian Premier League (IPL) player Luke Pomersbach was arrested Friday for allegedly molesting an American woman.

The Australian player from the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) team is alleged to have molested the woman at the ITC Maurya hotel here. Her fiance was beaten up by the player when he tried to stop him, police said.

In another big score, 27 of the 30 students from Bihar’s Super 30, a free coaching centre for underprivileged students, have cracked the highly competitive Indian Institute of Technology-Joint Entrance Examination (IIT-JEE) this year, its director said Friday.

“It is again good news that this year, 27 out of the 30 students made it to the IIT-JEE… it has underlined how with proper opportunity, students from poor families can also reach the prestigious IIT,” Super 30’s founder-director Anand Kumar told IANS.

Govt gives divorced women only a pie of husband’s property

WOMEN have ended up getting a raw deal from the government on the contentious divorce law. On Thursday, the Union cabinet amended its earlier decision of March, which had given a woman a share in all “ immovable property” of her husband in case of a divorce.

According to the latest decision, a woman will now get a clearly defined share but from only the “ residential immovable assets” of her husband, meaning essentially just the house rather than all other assets.

Kashmir hospital chief removed over 368 kids’ deaths

The Jammu and Kashmir government Thursday removed the medical superintendent of G.B. Pant Hospital in Srinagar where 368 children have died since Jan 1 this year.

Health and Medical Education Secretary M.K. Dwivedi told reporters here: “Doctor Skowkat Ali Zargar, director of Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), discussed his preliminary findings into the neo-natal deaths of children in G.B. Pant Hospital with me today.”

Facebook set to raise $16 bn with largest tech IPO

Pricing its IPO at $38 a share, Facebook, the highly popular social networking site that has over 45 million users in India, is expected to raise $16 billion, making it the largest tech IPO in history.

Nupur Talwar fasts on daughter’s 4th death anniversary

On the fourth death anniversary of her daughter Aarushi, Nupur Talwar observed fast and performed pujas in prison on Thursday. Nupur, inmate number 70 of barrack 13 at Dasna Jail in Ghaziabad, kept a half day fast.

“Nupur asked for permission from the prison authorities to keep the fast and perform some rituals. She was granted the permission for a half day fast and reciting Hanuman Chalisa and Bhagwad Gita,” Jail superintendent Viresh Raj Sharma said.

Rajya Sabha member K Chiranjeevi on Thursday predicted that YSR Congress president and Kadapa MP Jagan Mohan Reddy would be arrested soon.

12 lakh jewellery stolen from Lucknow shop

Two men on a motorcycle fled with jewellery worth Rs. 12 lakh from a shop in the Aashiana area in Lucknow on Thursday, police said.

The men told the shop owner that they wanted to buy gold ornaments for their sister. After they were shown the jewellery, they picked up a few pieces, saying that they wanted to show them to their sister waiting outside.

Once they came out, they got on the bike and decamped with the jewellery, police said.

Police is searching for the accused and are also scanning the shop’s CCTV camera footage to identify them.

Strong quake hits Chile

A 6.2-magnitude quake struck off the coast of Chile Thursday night, US authorities said.

The epicentre of the tremor was located 675 km southwest of the port city of Puerto Montt at a depth of 10 km, Xinhua quoted the US Geological Survey (USGS) as saying.

Delhi judges attacked with bricks by motorcyclists

In a suspected case of road rage, three judges and the driver of the car they were travelling in were attacked by unidentified motorcyclists in south Delhi on Thursday evening.

This is the second incident of attacks on judges in the national capital in the past four days.

One of the judges, Ajay Garg, suffered head injuries while two of his colleagues Additional Sessions Judges Inderjit Singh and M K Nagpal escaped unhurt in the incident which took place at Dakshinpuri J Block at around 5:30 pm.
