Farah is a born actress: Bela Sehgal

Farah Khan has impressed her director with her acting prowess as a Parsi woman in Bela Sehgal’s ‘Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi’.

“I think Farah really suited the character. She played it so well that I don’t think anyone else could have done it. I must say she is a born actress,” Bela told reporters here, at the first look launch of the film last night.

The movie is a romantic-comedy starring Farah and Boman Irani in the lead.

Cancellation of Muslims quota deplored

Mr. Mohammed Sirajuddin, Chairman, Minorities Department of AP Congress Committee expressed his concern on the cancellation of reservations for the Muslims by AP High Court. He requested the Govt. to file an appeal in the Court.

He welcomed the announcement of Mr. Salman Khsurshid to challenge the judgment of AP High Court in Supreme Court. He alleged that BJP and other communal organizations want to deprive the Muslims from the benefits of reservations.

People disappointed with BJP: Advani

BJP leader L K Advani today admitted that people were “disappointed” with the party and appeared to be hitting out at party chief Nitin Gadkari as he said the campaign against corruption had been hurt due to induction of an ousted BSP leader facing graft charges.

He said the BJP had not risen to the occasion at a time when there was anger against the UPA government over various scams.

FIR against Pak cricketer Mohammed Sami for rash driving

Yet another Pakistan cricketer is in news for wrong reason as an FIR has been filed against paceman Mohammed Sami for rash driving, causing damage.

It was reported yesterday that fast bowler Umar Gul`s house was raided by Army on the suspicion of harbouring a militant and his brother was arrested.

Both Gul and Sami are away in Sri Lanka with the national team.

The Gulberg police station on Wednesday registered an FIR on the complaint of lawyer Farrukh Illyas Cheema, who claimed that his car was badly damaged by Sami in an accident.

Mixed response against petrol price hike across the country

The nationwide bandh called by the NDA and Left parties to protest the petrol price hike on Thursday evoked a mixed response amid incidents of stone pelting, arson and road blockades in Karnataka, Maharashtra and West Bengal.

In the national capital, the bandh did not evoke much response though party supporters blocked traffic in some places.

Small shops were seen open in many areas in the morning while commuters complained that there were less autos on roads as a number of auto and taxi unions have joined the protest.

BRAOU B.Ed. and M.Ed. Exams rescheduled

Dr. B R Ambedkar Open University in a press note stated that the B.Ed. and M.Ed exams which were scheduled earlier from June 1, 2012 have been rescheduled in view of TET Examination on 01-06-2012.

The Exams will start from 02-06-2012 on wards in the same order as earlier.

(Siasat News): A woman who was very upset over the failure of her son in SSC exam, took the extreme step of ending her life.

This incident occurred Balanagar police station limits where 37-year old Shailaja poured kerosene on her body and set herself ablaze.

She died late last night. Police is further investigating.

Man falls to death from highrise building

A 30-year-old man from Kolkata fell to death under mysterious circumstances from a highrise building housing offices in Gurgaon on Wednesday.

Anant Dhanania fell to death from Park Centra building on National Highway 8.

Gurgaon police said Anant was employed in one of the companies whose offices are located in the building.

Police said no suicide note was found but it appears that he committed suicide.

Govt. should exhibit seriousness on the issue of Muslim reservations – Aziz Pasha

He told that on the occasion of admissions in Universities and I.I.T’s, this judgement is deplorable. He also blamed the Govt. of A.P. on exhibiting non-serious attitude in pursuing the case in A.P. High Court. He told that instead of utilizing the services of the Attorney General, Govt. of A.P. deployed ordinary pleaders for pleading this case. This has exposed the false claims of sympathy of the Govt.

He represented the matter to the Chairman of A.P. State Muslim Wakf Board for the rehabilitation of this old Mosque. The Chairman sent the Task Force team under the stewardship of Mr. Abdul Quddoos. He inspected the site along with Mr. Osman Bin Mohammed Al-Hajiri and promised to submit the inspection report to CEO of Wakf Board Mr. M.A. Gaffar.

Bag triggers bomb scare at Bangalore airport

An abandoned bag created a bomb scare at the international airport in Bangalore today before police found it contained only a laptop.

Security personnel deployed at the airport went into a tizzy after the bag was noticed lying unclaimed and informed the airport police.

Bomb squad and sniffer dogs were immediately pressed into service but they found only a laptop inside the bag, police sources said.

It was later found that the bag had fallen down from the luggage trolley of a passenger who had arrived from Muscat and he had failed to notice it. He claimed the bag later.

TET exam: RTC to ply special buses

APSRTC has announced to ply special buses on June 1 in view of APTET (teachers eligibility test) to be held on the day. Corporation told that special buses will be run between 9:30 to 12 noon and 2:30 to 5 pm from various places to the exam centres. RTC supervisors will also be available on important routes.

New York allows headgear for Sikh, Muslim transit employees

Muslim and Sikh employees of New York’s transit system will now be able to wear their religious headgear freely, without attaching a government agency logo to them, in a major legal victory after new uniform rules were imposed following the 9/11 attacks.

The US Justice Department yesterday reached a settlement with the New York City Transit Authority (NYCTA) eight years after it had filed a complaint in September 2004 in US District Court for the Eastern District of New York alleging that NYCTA engaged in a pattern of religious discrimination.

18 killed in road accident

Eighteen people were killed and over two dozen injured when an Uttarakhand Roadways bus collided with a mini-truck at Lakahooti area on Thursday, police said.

The accident occurred when the bus, on its way to Haldwani town of Uttarakhand from here, collided head-on with the mini-truck, carrying people back from Garhmukteshwar after performing last rites of a deceased at river Ganga, they said.

The injured have been admitted to a government hospital, they said, adding that investigations are on.
