Sukma collector to be released on May 03

Barring any last minute hitch, Sukma Collector Alex Paul Menon, who has been held hostage by Maoists for 11 days, will be freed on Thursday.

A late night statement on Tuesday by the Maoists said, “We are ready to hand over Menon on May 3 in front of people of Tadmetla.”

The 32-year-old IAS officer, who was abducted on April 21, will be handed over to the two mediators of the Maoists.

Tried of replying to the queries regarding his illness, Yuvraj Singh, recovering from a rare germ cell cancer between his lungs, on Tuesday said it makes him feel ill again when people keep asking him about his health.

“Don`t ask me about my illness. You make me feel as if I am still sick,” Yuvraj said in a brief interaction with the reporters here at his residence here on Tuesday.

Yuvraj arrived in the city on Tuesday and headed straight to his home from the airport.

Triple blasts rock Kabul after Obama visit

Three car bomb explosions occurred in the eastern part of capital Kabul on Wednesday hours after US President Barack Obama arrived in Afghanistan late last night on an unannounced visit to meet his Afghan counterpart Hamid Karzai.

According to reports, the blasts were followed by sporadic shooting.

Minutes after the blasts, the US embassy in Kabul immediately sounded alarms, warning staff to “take cover, move away from the windows”.

The attack occurred on the Jalalabad road, where there are several foreign military bases.

4 Maharashtra blasts, Malegaon linked

The National Investigation Agency (NIA), which is probing saffron terror cases, has found evidence that blasts in Purna, Parbhani, Jalna and Nanded between 2003 and 2006 are all connected with the perpetrators of Malegaon blasts, although in a peculiar way. All these blasts, in Marathwada region of central Maharashtra, were carried out by proteges of Sunil Joshi, the mastermind of the Malegaon and Samjhauta Express blasts.

Saudis rush for “jinn” cure scam

Several Saudi people suffering from physical and mental problems have fallen prey to an unknown man who lives in Egypt and claims he can cure them by sending over a “Moslem jinn” (genie).

All they had to do was to contact his aide in Saudi Arabia to arrange for a phone chat with the presumed healer so he can identify their exact malady and decide which genie they need.

“People who spoke to the man in that country were asked to transfer a specific sum of money to his account so he can send them a Moslem jinn,” the Saudi Arabic language daily Sabq said.

2 steel plant workers killed in blast furnace accident

15-year old tiger cured of oral cavity tumour

Shatrudhan, a 15-year old tiger of the Kota Zoo suffering from tumour in its mouth, has now been cured and the big cat is recovering well after a successful surgery.
Renowned wildlife veterinary surgeon at the Jaipur Zoo, Dr Arvind Mathur has performed the first-ever surgery of its kind. He operated out 3X2 inch unique tumour weighing 50 grams from the feline’s buccal cavity.
Dr Mathur, who has to his credit a number of unusual surgeries done on tigers and lions, told UNI here this evening that this was the first every surgery of oral cavity of a tiger in Rajasthan.

Nine killed in Qualis-Tanker collision

At least nine persons were killed on the spot when a Toyota Qualis had a head on collision with an oil tanker near Velugodu Reservoir in Kurnool district on Tuesday.

According to police, the victims include four women and a girl child. The victims belonged to a village near Bengaluru of Karnataka. The identity of victims is yet to be ascertained, police said. A few others, who were injured in the mishap, were shifted to Government Hospital in Velugodu.
