“Why Sonia Gandhi is not visiting AP?” asks TDP

The Telugu Desam Party on Sunday questioned as to why UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi did not visit the drought-affected areas of Andhra Pradesh.

Addressing a press conference at the Telugu Desam Legislature Party office, TDP MLA Ravula Chandrashekhar Reddy said that the Congress president has recently visited drought-hit areas of Bellary in Karnataka and assured of providing a special package for the affected farmers. However, he said that why Sonia Gandhi was not keen on visiting the drought-hit areas of Andhra Pradesh which is being ruled by the Congress party.

A woman was beaten up by police today for showing black flag to the Congress President Sonia Gandhi in Tumkur, during the birthday celebration of Siddaganga Math head.

A young woman tried to disrupt Mrs Gandhi’s speech during the ceremony. As she began her speech, the woman, seated among the audience, suddenly rose and waved a black flag demanding Scheduled Caste (SC) status for her community Madiga Dandora. The police immediately swung into action and beat her up. She was then take away from the venue even as some of her supporters shouted slogans.

A woman dentist in Poland is facing jail after she allegedly pulled out all her former boyfriend’s teeth because he dumped her for another woman.

Anna Mackowiak, 34, took revenge on 45-year-old Marek Olszewski when he turned up at her clinic with toothache just days after breaking up with her, the Daily Mail reported.

She gave him a heavy dose of anaesthetic and plucked all his teeth out. She then wrapped his head and jaw in a bandage to stop him from opening his mouth.

She said there had been complications and he would need to see a specialist.

BSc student hangs self

Apparently depressed over his poor academic performance, a first year BSc student of Hindu College allegedly committed suicide on Saturday, police said.

Samiran Saikia (19), who hailed from Assam, was found hanging from the ceiling in his room in North Delhi’s Model Town.

Police suspect depression due to poor academic performance drove the youth to take the extreme step.

Saikia was a student of Botany and had been living with his friends in a rented accommodation at Vijay Nagar in Model Town.

Iran identifies cyber attackers on Oil Ministry

Iran’s Deputy Oil Minister Hamdollah Mohammadnejad says the target of and the perpetrators behind the recent cyber attack on the ministry have been identified.

“The nature of the attack and the agents behind it have been identified but because we are still working on the case it cannot be announced,” Mohammadnejad told Fars News Agency on Saturday.

“In general, the attack was in the form of a virus that aimed to steal and damage data,” the official said, adding that those who designed the malware “pursued certain objectives.”

US drones killed 2,800 in Pak in 7 years

A Pakistani human rights lawyer says over 2,800 of the 3,000 people killed over the past seven years in non-UN-sanctioned US assassination drone strikes in Pakistan were civilians, Press TV reports.

Shahzad Akbar, the director of the Foundation for Fundamental Rights, told Press TV on Saturday that only 170 of the people killed in the aerial attacks on the northwestern tribal belt of Pakistan have been identified as militants.

That means that “over 2,800 people were civilians, whose identities are not known, and they have just been killed on suspicion of being militants,” he added.

Talibanisation of Pak can reach Wagah border soon, warns IAF chief

Indian Air Force chief Air Chief Marshal N.A.K. Browne on Saturday said religious fundamentalist groups like the Taliban operating in Afghanistan may shift close to the Indian border with Pakistan, at Wagah, if the situation deteriorated after withdrawal of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) and the U.S. forces from the region.

“In case, the situation deteriorates in the Afghanistan region, especially after the ISAF and American forces withdraw, our fear is that we may have them (Taliban) very close to the Wagah border to deal with.”

UK spacecraft to fly up to the sun

The European Space Agency said on Friday it had awarded a 300-million-euro ($400 million) contract to a British technology firm to build a satellite to examine the Sun from closer up than any before it.

The Solar Orbiter, to be built by Astrium UK, is due to launch in January 2017 – coming to within 45 million kilometres (28 million miles) of the Sun – closer than its nearest planet, Mercury.

Project scientist Daniel Mueller said the satellite, roughly eight cubic metres in size, would have to withstand ten times the solar heat than that on earth.

Russian woman kills hubby with frying pan

A Russian man died after his jealous wife hit him on the head with a frying pan, officials said.

The incident took place in Orenburg city in the Urals region in western Russia.

“The 50-year old man was hospitalised in intensive care with acute cerebral circulatory problems and died the following day,” police said.

The 36-year old woman said she was driven by jealousy and hit her husband with a frying pan during a quarrel, they said.

The woman faces up to 15 years in prison.
