Sending a positive message, a 22-year-old orphan girl and a salesman, both HIV positive,tied the nuptial knot at a unique match-making event here today.

People in large numbers, including Jaipur MP Mahesh Joshi, attended the wedding at a rehabilitation centre for HIV
positive people.

“It is a very unique and special event which has sent a positive message to society,” Joshi told PTI.

The wedding, organised by social organisations — Pahal and the Rajasthan Network of People Living with HIV Positive
— was solemnised in a traditional manner.

Bootlegger attempts suicide in police lock-up

An alleged bootlegger today tried to commit suicide by consuming poison in the police lock-up of Bhuj tehsil, police officials said.

Suresh alias Saliya Koli (40), was arrested late last night after a raid by the district police on his country-made
liquor den in Naranpara village, they said.

During the initial frisking, he was not found carrying anything objectionable, but after he was given a second set of
clothes on demand, a bottle of poison was found with him,police officials claimed.

He has been admitted to a local hospital, they said.

Actress held for running a brothel in Hyderabad

A Tollywood actress was arrested by Banjara Hills police on Saturday for allegedly cheating gullible girls by promising them jobs but later turning them into prostitution.

The Banjara Hills police station said that Tara Chowdary was arrested under Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act (PITA). When she was brought to the police station, she picked up an argument with constable Nageshwara Rao at the police station. A case of preventing a public servant from discharging his duties was also registered against her, Banjara Hills police said.

SpiceJet flight grounded due to technical snag

A Hyderabad-bound SpiceJet aircraft was grounded at Gannavaram Airport due to last minute detection of a technical sang, here today.

Airport Director Pattabhi told UNI that the pilot of the flight, which was scheduled to take off at 0830 hrs, noticed a technical snag when the aircraft was about to take off.

The flight was immediately grounded and the passengers were sent to Hyderabad by another flight.

The flight was being repaired and would take off as soon as the technical trouble is rectified, the Director said.

Bibi Jagir Kaur jailed for role in daughter’s kidnapping

Senior Punjab minister Bibi Jagir Kaur has been arrested and sent to jail after being held guilty of conspiracy in the mysterious death of her daughter in April 2000. However, the court dropped murder charges against her.

A court in Patiala on Friday sentenced Jagir Kaur, minister for rural water supply and sanitation and defence services, to five years rigorous imprisonment.

She has resigned “on moral grounds” from the government that has just been re-elected to power.

Consensual sex `can lead to as many injuries as rape

Consensual sex can cause as many vaginal injuries in women as rape, according to a new study.

Researchers at the University of Southern Denmark have carried out the study and found that vaginal injuries are as common among women who have had voluntary sex as among rape victims, `Forensic Science International` journal reported.

The study, in which the researchers compared rape victims with nursing students to come to their conclusion, casts doubt on commonly held view that vaginal injuries are evidence that intercourse has been forced.

‘Nikah without conversion of a girl illegal’

Leading Islamic seminary Darul Uloom Deoband has disapproved a proposed love marriage between a Muslim boy and a non-Muslim girl as per Hindu tradition, saying Islam does not allow such a union without conversion.

Such nikah before conversion would be considered illegal under the Shariat law, Deoband said in response to the query of a Muslim man whose brother fell in love with a non-Muslim girl and was going to marry her as per Hindu tradition.

The girl and her family members were ready for the union on the condition that the marriage should be performed as per Hindu tradition.

9 Billion Dollars pumped in by FII

Overseas investors have pumped in about Rs 8,381.10 crore ($1.68 billion) in the Indian equity market in the month of March, taking the calendar year to date total to a whopping Rs 43,950.70 crore ($8.89 billion).

During March, Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were gross buyers of shares worth Rs 63,795.10 crore, while they sold equities amounting to Rs 55,413.80 crore, translating into a net investment of Rs 8,381.10 crore, as per data available with market regulator Sebi.

TDP leader and former minister Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy has questioned why YSR Congress president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy was not arrested though his name was mentioned as the first accused in the charge-sheet of the illegitimate assets case

Talking to the media here on Sunday, Somireddy expressed fears that he would tamper with evidence if he was not arrested immediately. He also alleged that the names of big companies that had indulged in irregularities were also not mentioned in the charge-sheet.

Rasthrapati Bhawan observes Earth Hour

The Rashtrapati Bhawan saved a total of 550 units as President Pratibha Patil and the House staff observed the Earth hour by switching off lights of the sprawling estate.

Patil also turned off the lights and instead used candles in her study and dining hall in order to save power to mark the Earth Hour which was observed across the globe for an hour from 2030 hours, a Rashtrapati Bhawan spokesperson said.

A total of 550 units were saved during the one hour event, the spokesperson added.

Women take longer to deliver babies today than they did 50 years ago, according to an analysis of nearly 140,000 deliveries, conducted by researchers at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Researchers compared data on deliveries in the early 1960s to data gathered in the early 2000s. They found that the first stage of labour had increased by 2.6 hours for first-time mothers.

British Museum celebrates success of Hajj exhibition receiving over 80,000 visitors

Hajj: journey to the heart of Islam has reached the target visitor figure for the exhibition receiving over 80,000 visitors in just over seven weeks. The exhibition opened on 26 January and runs until 15 April. The exhibition has been seen by a diverse audience including many family visitors (children under the age of 16 can access the exhibition for free).

With only two weeks left the British Museum has extended the opening hours of the exhibition on Saturday and Sunday evenings to release more tickets and meet demand as time slots are frequently sold out.

Cops to Take Action Against Girl for False Rape Case

Irked over a false rape case lodged by a girl against a cop, a court here has directed the Delhi Police to take appropriate action against her for “putting the state machinery” against him.

Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Atul Kumar Garg acquitted Muzaffarnagar resident Subhash Chander Chaudhary, working as a constable in Delhi Police, against whom the complainant had lodged a false rape case last year.
