International passport issued to 438 Hajj aspirants

Hyderabad passport office today issued 438 passports of Hajj aspirants. In a fucntion organised at passprot office, passport officer Dr. Srikar Reddy handed over 260 passports to the Hajj aspirants directly while 119 passports were dispatched through post.

Talking to media persons, passport officer told that on the reprensentation made by Hajj committee passport office had opened a special counter at Hajj house for Hajj aspirants through which it accepted hundreds of passport applications.

Tragedy: Toddler drowns in washing machine

At 21 months, Ollie Hebb was his mother’s helper on laundry day, climbing atop a bin so he could toss clothes into a top-loading washer.

On the morning he went missing for a few minutes, Tiffany Hebb went through her house calling for him but got no answer. She found the toddler in the washing machine, submerged in a full tub. He died a day later.

His mother, recently moved to Oregon from Utah, says she never thought the washing machine would be a danger to her child and is telling the story to make parents aware of the danger.

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has said that American military would have a small presence in Afghanistan after 2014 and their main role would be reduced to training and advising the local forces.

“We anticipate that a small number of forces will remain, at the invitation of the Afghan Government, for the sole purpose of training, advising, and assisting Afghan forces and continuing to pursue counter terrorism operations,” she said.

Europe’s biggest dinosaur skull found in Spain

A Spanish palaeontology foundation has presented the fossilized skull of the biggest dinosaur yet found in Europe.

Turiasaurus riodevensis, a sauropod that lived 145 million years ago, measured more than 30 meters long and weighed some 40 tonnes.

More than 35 bones of the skull and seven teeth, presented last Wednesday at the Paleontological Laboratory of Teruel’s Dinopolis Foundation, were found during the 2005 excavation campaign in the Barrihonda-El Humero deposits in the Riodeva municipality.

Low energy density diets may help lose weight

Consuming a diet low in energy density may be an effective strategy for managing body weight, suggest researchers.

A new study systematically reviews and updates the evidence underlying the recommendation in the Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2010 to consume a diet low in energy density (ED).

It concluded that there is strong and consistent evidence in adults showing that consuming a diet higher in ED is associated with increased body weight, while consuming a diet that is relatively low in ED improves weight loss and weight maintenance.

Third front not possible at the moment: Karat

The CPM is not exploring a third front alternative at the centre since the regional parties at the moment are not likely to come together for a “common programme,” according to CPM General Secretary, Prakash Karat.

A third front is possible only on the basis of a common programme, which at present is “not happening,” he said. However, he admitted that there is possibility of a change in political alignments.

A Division Bench of the A.P. High Court comprising Chief Justice Madan B. Lokur and Justice P.V. Sanjay Kumar directed the A.P. Wakf Board and the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to identify and clearly demarcate the notified Waqf properties within Naya Qilla area of the Golconda fort, Hyderabad within two months.

As per the details, one Qamruddin set Anuradha, wife of his friend Prasad, ablaze. It is suspected that Qamruddin and Anuradha had illicit relations but it is not confirmed by police.

Singapore hospital to give online treatment to gamblers

A hospital in Singapore has launched a self-help online interactive guide book to help gamblers reluctant to seek formal treatment despite having problems.

The National Addictions Management Service (NAMS) at Singapore’s Institute of Mental Health launched the workbook, believed to be the first of its kind in Singapore, Xinhua reported citing TV channel Channel NewsAsia.

The workbook is aimed at helping gamblers gain more insight into their behaviour, such as the triggers for gambling and their distorted beliefs.

The Managing Committee of Dargah Hussain Shah Wali welcomed the High Court judgement declaring the land belonging to Dargah Hussain Shah Wali located in Manikonda Jagir as Wakf Land.

The office bearers of the Managing Committee told that the President of the Managing Committee Mr. Syed Afzal Mehdi had filed a petition in Wakf Tribunal for the restoration for possession of 1500 acres and 6 Guntas land. The Wakf Tribunal had issued direction not to indulge in any transaction including mortgaging, sale or construction on this land.
