Siasat Talent search awards distribution today

(Siasat News) Siasat and M.S. Education Academy had conducted Talent Search Test for X class students on 11th December 2011 at 38 centres of A.P. in which 15,310 students participated.

Now the time has come for those who excelled in their performances. These talent search tests are held every year by Siasat and M.S. Education Academy every year. This was the 14th test .

Award distribution ceremony will be held at Siasat office at 4 p.m. today.

69.5% children anaemic in India

The government today said 42.5 per cent children below five years were underweight and 69.5 per cent were anaemic in the country.

According to a survey conducted in 2005-06, 42.5 per cent of children under five years of age were underweight and 69.5 per cent were anaemic, Women and Child Development Minister Krishna Tirath told the Lok Sabha.
She was replying to a question if India has the highest number of children suffering from malnutrition in comparison to other countries.

Man kills wife out of suspicion

A man in Damoh on Friday axed his wife to death out of suspicion, and later committed suicide by jumping in front of a train, police said. The deceased were identified as Gayatri Patel, 19, and Shankar Patel, 23.

Shankar suspected that his wife was having an affair with her sister’s husband and they quarrelled frequently over this issue, police said.

After a heated argument on Saturday, he allegedly hacked his wife to death, and later jumped in front of a train on Damoh-Patharia rail section. The couple is survived by a six-month-old daughter.

Bring 26/11 attackers to justice: Ban Ki-moon

United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon Friday asked India and Pakistan to continue with their peace dialogue, saying it is “significant” for both regional and global peace, even as he slammed terrorism and called for bringing to justice the perpetrators of the Mumbai terror attacks.

At a press conference here on the second day of his four-day visit to India, Ban also said the UN “encouraged both countries to continue this effort” at peace in the region.

Bangaru convicted of accepting Rs1 lakh bribe

A Delhi Court on Saturday will announce quantum of sentence for former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Bangaru Laxman, who was yesterday convicted for accepting a bribe from a fake arms dealer in a 10-year-old graft case.

Bangaru who was taken to jail by police followed by court’s direction, spent his night in prison. He will be produced in court today where arguments on sentencing will be heard.

Additional Sessions Judge Kanwal Jeet Arora found Laxman guilty under provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Modi to take over BJP post Gujarat polls?

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat has stepped in to solve the leadership crisis in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

According to reports, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi might be brought in for a party post after the forthcoming state elections.

The RSS might also press for Nitin Gadkari as BJP’s President for one more year.

Sources say Plan B that is being considered involves offering the party President’s post to either Sushma Swaraj or Arun Jaitley.

Woman pregnant with 9 babies

A Mexican woman, who has already given birth to triplets, is now pregnant with nine babies.

Karla Vanessa Perez — whose age was not disclosed — is expecting six girls and three boys. The babies were conceived using fertility treatment and are due May 20, the Daily Mail reported citing Mexico’s main broadcaster Televisa.

Perez is a resident of the northeastern state of Coahuila, which borders the US state of Texas.

“It’s very early to think of names for the babies. First I hope that everything goes well,” Perez said.

For Sex-change student drags parents to court

A 21-year-old student from Guwahati who feels he is a woman trapped in man’s body, has moved the Bombay High Court seeking restraining his parents from interfering with his decision to undergo a sex change operation.

Bidhan Barua, who likes to call himself Swati, has alleged that his parents had thwarted the sex reassignment surgery which was scheduled to be performed at Saifee hospital here on April 17. He said his parents threatened the doctors who have now refused to perform the operation unless the High Court gives a go ahead.

8-year-old girl bought for Rs 6,000 from WB rescued

An eight-year-old girl allegedly bought from West Bengal for Rs 6,000 and employed as domestic help by a couple at Nehru Nagar was rescued on Friday afternoon by team of Childline, an NGO, along with two constables from Gittikhadan police station.

The matter is being probed by Gittikhadan police station. Cops said they were still talking to the victim and interrogating the couple and were yet to register an offence.

According to the Childline activist, the girl was bought by the couple Pradeep Banerjee and his wife last year when she was seven.

129 Chinese kids hospitalised after school meal

As many as 129 kindergarten students in China’s Yunnan province fell ill after having breakfast at school, officials said.

According to the publicity department of Wenshan Zhuang and Miao autonomous prefecture, a hospital in the city of Wenshan Friday received 129 children from a kindergarten which reported feeling dizzy and nauseated after breakfast, Xinhua reported.

An improperly cooked soya milk, consumed by kids at the kindergarten, may have caused the problem, an initial probe suggested.

Congress seeks to register Madrasahs, provide financial help

To reach out to minority votes ahead of the Delhi assembly elections in 2013, the Congress-led government Friday asked the state minority commission to facilitate the registration of eligible Madrasahs which could be provided financial assistance for imparting “purposeful” education.

The decision came in the wake of absence of authentic data on the number of Madrasahs in the capital which is the basic requirement to grant assistance to the seminaries.

SC bans pasting black films on car glasses

The Supreme Court Friday banned the use of black films of any visible light transmission (VLT) percentage or any other material on the front and rear screens and windows of all vehicles throughout the country. The ban would be enforceable from May 4.

“We have no hesitation in holding that use of black films or any other material upon safety glass, windscreen and side windows is impermissible,” a bench of Chief Justice S.H. Kapadia, Justice A.K.Patnaik and Justice Swatanter Kumar said.

Six youngsters assault and film boy, 8

In a horrific incident, an eight-year old boy from the northern Indian city of Chandigarh was sexually assaulted by a group of young boys. The boy was allegedly abused for several days, reports ibnlive.in.com.

The six culprits also filmed the incident and passed around the MMS among their friends. Five of the six accused are aged below 18 years and all were taken into police custody after the incident came to light.

Govt Collapse to Abolish Dutch Niqab Ban

A proposed ban on the wearing of Muslim face-veils in the Netherlands is likely to be dropped following the collapse of alliance between the Dutch government and anti-Islam lawmaker Geert Wilders’ party.

“These policies were driven by PVV but also by this government in order to maintain their relationship with PVV,” Maurits Berger, professor of Islam in the contemporary West at Leiden University, told Reuters.

She said the proposed ban on the face-veil (niqab) could soon be taken “off the table” after the Dutch government fell last week.

Former Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss was on Friday chargesheeted by CBI in a Delhi court for allegedly abusing his official position in allowing a Indore-based medical college to go ahead with admissions without having sufficient faculty and clinical material.

The 36-page chargesheet named the PMK leader and nine others including two senior government officials and two doctors of Safdarjung Hospital here and five persons associated with the private hospital in Indore which allegedly gained “pecuniary advantage” in 2008.
