80% Of Indo-Americans To Vote For Obama

An overwhelming Indian-Americans would vote for US President Barack Obama in the November presidential elections, while Mitt Romney has been named as favourite among the Republican presidential candidates, a latest opinion poll has said.

“Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney leads his nearest rivals Ron Paul by 24.1 percentage points and former Senator Rick Santorum by 33.4 percentage points,” said the latest national opinion poll among Indian-Americans.

Sonia Gandhi abroad for routine check up

Nearly six months after undergoing a surgery abroad, Congress President Sonia Gandhi has travelled out of the country for a “routine checkup” in connection with the treatment for her undisclosed illness.

“Congress President Sonia Gandhi has travelled abroad for routine check up after six months of her earlier treatment,” AICC General Secretary Janardan Dwivedi said here on Tuesday.

He said Gandhi, 65, would return in four to five days. Party sources said that Gandhi left for an undisclosed foreign destination last night without disclosing the nature of the check up.

State accused of failure to spend central funds for Minority Welfare

All India Muslim Minority Organization (ALMMO) has accused the State government of adopting a negligent attitude in spending the funds released by the Union Government for Minorities welfare.

Speaking to media persons here on Tuesday, ALMMO President Syed Mukhtar Hussain said though the Central government had sanctioned Rs 587 crore for welfare of minorities in 2011-12 financial year, the State government has failed to spend the full amount, and it has spent only Rs 125 crore so far.

Janata Party leader Subramanian Swamy in an interview with the Asian Tribune raised his suspicion on Congress President Sonia Gandhi’s role in Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination because of her sympathy with the LTTE.

“The UPA government is driven by Ms Sonia Gandhi. According to me she is a suspect in Rajiv’s assassination and because of her past association with the Habash group of Palestinians, who had trained the LTTE first; she has continuing sympathy with the LTTE cause. Hence the explanation for India’s stand,” he said.

APIIC acquires 4532 acres for Mega Park

Andhra Pradesh Major Industries Minister, Dr Geeta Reddy, today informed the State Assembly the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Inrastructure Corporation (APIIC) has acquired about 4532 acres of land for Mega Industrial Park at C.K.Dinne Mandal of Kadapa District in the state. Responding to a question raised by members in the House, he said the preliminary survey work for Mega Park was conducted and establishment of approach road to park at Kopparthy from Kadapa-Bellary Road was in progress.

HM admits to illegal clubs in city

Andhra Pradesh Home Minister P Sabitha Indira Reddy today admitted that several clubs were being run illegally in the State, particularly in the limits of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation. In her reply to a question raised by MLAs K Srisailam Goud and A Rajender during Question Hour in the State Assembly, the Minister said playing cards and other illegal activities were taking place in the clubs situated on the outskirts of Hyderabad City in the guise of farm houses.

Criminal nabbed, Rs five lakh stolen property recovered

The Ramachandrapuram Subdivision Police have arrested an elusive hardcore criminal involved in several burglaries and recovered from him Rs 5 lakh worth of stolen property. The Superintendent of Police, East Godavari, Dr C Trivikrama Varma told mediapersons here today Palivela Subrahmanyam (35), a native Uppada Village of Kothapalli Mandal, was a notorious criminal and wanted by police in property offences pertaining to eight police stations in the district. He had escaped the police dragnet for the last nine years and was trapped at the G Medapudu bus stand today.

Director General of Police V Dinesh Reddy said that all police stations are being interlinked through Crime Control Tracking System which would be operational in a couple of months. 6 arrested in murder case

The city police have solved a murder case by arresting six people involved in the crime while nine others are absconding. Sleuths of Kanchanbagh and Santoshnagar Police Stations unravelled the mystery behind the murder of Ahmed Ali Khan alias Ilyas Ali Khan that took place in Gods Power Gym Kanchanbagh on March 19 last year by nabbing the accused here yesterday. They have also seized five knives, one cell phone, two wheelers and one country-made pistol with a live round from their possession, police said today. The accused included two advocates besides some businessmen and shop owners.

3 held, seizes Rs 10 lakh worth brown sugar

The City Task force have arrested three drug peddlers, including two natives of Rajasthan and seized Rs 10 lakh worth brown sugar, weighing one kg, from them at Masab tank in the city here today.

Ishant to miss IPL due to ankle surgery

Ishant Sharma, the India and Deccan Chargers fast bowler, has been ruled out of the fifth season of the IPL after undergoing surgery earlier this month and now faces a six-month lay-off.

According to reports, Ishant had postponed the surgery despite being advised to go under the knife during India’s tour of England last years. Ishant was apparently keen to travel to Australia and thus chose to delay the surgery, which he was told would require at least six months to recover from. Team Anna member Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday said he meant no disrespect to Parliament or its members, but was deeply concerned about rooting out corruption from the country.

“I have no disrespect to Parliament or its members, but I am deeply concerned about removing corruption from this country,” Kejriwal told reporters at his residence here.

“I have no personal grudge against anyone,” he added.

He said corrupt politicians were given a lesson in the recent elections.

Govt to issue health cards to employees

Medical Education Minister Kondru Murali Mohan informed the State Legislative Council that the government has agreed to introduce a health card scheme to the employees of the state government.

Replying to a question raised by V Bala Subrahmanyam, he said that state level committees were constituted to work out the extent of coverage and other modalities for implementation of the said scheme, including the nature of identity cards to be issued. (INN)
