Army chief’s letter, Telangana rock parliament

Rocked by the letter written by army chief Gen V.K. Singh to the prime minister, the Rajya Sabha was adjourned twice till 12 noon Wednesday even as Defence Minister A.K. Antony assured a response at “an appropriate time”.

The Lok Sabha was also adjourned till 12 noon as members raised the issue of a separate state of Telangana.

V.K. Singh, in a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, has pointed out a shortage of arms and ammunition in the armed forces.

Woman kills hubby, buries him

A 35-year-old woman, mother of two, was arrested here Wednesday for allegedly killing her drunkard husband and burying him within the house.

The woman battered husband Rajender Patel to death, then dug a 4 by 8 feet ‘grave’ within the house and buried man in it late Tuesday.

Admitting she killed him, the woman told horrified police officials that she was sick of being beaten up by her husband. So she decided to do away with him.

“When he was asleep last night, I smashed his head with a stone and kept beating him till he was dead,” police quoted her as saying.

Potato Omelette

Try this omelette with a potato filling!

Ingredients

5 eggs

1 teaspoon of sugar

1/4 teaspoon of salt

1/4 teaspoon of pepper

1/2 cup of milk (125ml)

1-2 tablespoons of butter or margarine (optional)

Filling:

1 potato, chopped into 1/4″ – 1/2″ cubes (approximately 1cm)

1 small onion, minced or chopped

1/2 cup cheese (50g), shredded

Procedure

In a bowl beat together eggs, sugar, salt and pepper.

Mix in milk.

Heat up two frying pans to a medium temperature.

Use butter, margarine, or cooking spray on each pan.

Add chopped potatoes to one pan.

Sabudana Khichdi

Ingredients:

1 cup sabudana(sago)
1/2 tsp Sugar
2 Green Chillieschopped finely
1/2 cup crushed groundnuts(coarse)
1 boiled & peeled potato
2 tsp Oil
1/4 tsp Mustard Seeds
1 Pinch Hing (asafoetida)
2 tbsp grated fresh Coconut
Salt to taste
Few Coriander leaves
Few Curry Leaves

Procedure:

Wash and soak sabudana in water just enough to loosen and light for minimum 2 hrs.
Chop the potatoes into small cubes. Mix crushed groundnuts,sugar and salt and keep aside.

An Indian origin scientist has revealed that getting too little sleep – or even too much – may lead to heart problems.

Rohit R. Arora, MD, FACC, chairman of cardiology and professor of medicine, the Chicago Medical School, and his team found that adults who get less than six hours of sleep a night are at significantly greater risk of stroke, heart attack and congestive heart failure.

Enraged father makes 12-yr-old beg for scoring poor marks

A class seven student was forced by her father to beg in front of a temple in Mysore for scoring poor marks in exams.

Prakash, a senior assistant lab technician, on Monday night forced his 12-year-old daughter to beg as he was upset with her performance in exams.

The girl was found crying with a bowl in her hand at a temple when a social activist found her and took her to police station.

The father was arrested and a case was registered against him under the Juvenile Justice Act. However, he managed to get bail.

Cassini to make closest pass over Enceladus South Pole

NASA’s Cassini probe is set to make its lowest pass yet over the south polar region of Saturn’s moon Enceladus in order to “taste” the icy particles spraying out from its surface.

The close approach will be at an altitude of 74km and is scheduled to occur at 19:30 GMT on March 27, 2012.

Scientists will use Cassini’s Ion and Neutral Mass Spectrometer instrument to learn more about the composition, density and variability of the plume from Enceladus.

The probe’s plasma spectrometer will also help astronomers study Saturn’s magnetic and plasma environment near Enceladus.

In a move that is expected to hit Indian IT companies majorly, the US government has decided to hike H-1B visa fee from next fiscal.

In a statement, USCIS listed out the details of the fees to be filed by the applicants for H-1B visas, which starts from a base fee of USD 325 to USD 2,000 by the petitioner who employs 50 or more employees in the US – where more than 50 per cent of its workers in the US are in H-1B or L-1 non- immigrant status.

Al Qaeda suspect met Sept 11 figure in Pakistan

A German-Afghan man whose information prompted terrorism warnings across Europe in 2010 told a court on Tuesday he received orders from a senior al Qaeda militant in Pakistan, and met a key member of the Hamburg al Qaeda cell that included three of the September 11 suicide hijackers.

Ahmad Wali Siddiqui, 37, concluded four days of testimony before the Koblenz state court by admitting that he received orders from al Qaeda’s Younis al-Mauritani, who was apprehended in 2011 by Pakistani agents working with the CIA.

Treasure hunt to resume at Naubat Pahad

With the ICSE board exams coming to an end on Tuesday, expect some action again at the Vidyaranya High School where a treasure hunt by the State Archaeology Department hit the headlines a few weeks back. It is learnt that the technical committee of experts, formed to study the report of the National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) which surveyed the area at the Naubat Pahad, will meet in a couple of days. The panel will decide the future course of action.

However, the owners of the property have not yet been informed of any moves to resume “exploration activities.”

Panetta says war strategy cannot be guided by polls

The US Defense Secretary says dwindling public support for the war in Afghanistan will have no impact on America’s war strategy.

Referring to a recent poll which showed a drastic drop in public support for the Afghan war, Leon Panetta said, “We cannot fight wars by polls – if we do that, we’re in trouble,” AFP reported.

A poll, conducted among 986 adults from March 21-25 by the New York Times/CBS and published on Monday, showed that 69 percent of Americans were of the opinion that the US should stop war in Afghanistan. The poll was up from 53 percent four months ago.

It is surrounded on both the sides by roads. For the past few days, garbage is being dumped in this graveyard so that the signs of the Muslim graves vanish to make an easy way for marking the plots for sale. The chairman instructed the staff to erect a board notifying that this graveyard is a Wakf property.

Firing at Pakistani judge’s house, one killed

Islamabad, March 28: At least one policeman was killed when unidentified people Wednesday opened fire at the home of a Shariat court judge in Pakistan’s Punjab province, Geo News reported.

The incident, which also injured one policeman deployed to provide security to the judge, took place in Multan city’s Mumtazabad area.

A federal Shariat court in Pakistan has the authority to examine and determine whether the laws of the country comply with Shariat law, the code of law under Islam.

Washington, March 28: Indian-Americans would overwhelmingly vote for US President Barack Obama in the November presidential elections, while Mitt Romney has been named as favourite among the Republican presidential candidates, according to a latest opinion poll.

“Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney leads his nearest rivals Ron Paul by 24.1 percentage points and former Senator Rick Santorum by 33.4 percentage points,” said the latest national opinion poll among Indian-Americans.

Raja of Ayodhya resigns from BSP

Vimlendra Mohan Pratap Mishra alias Pappu Bhaiya, the Raja of Ayodhya, today resigned from the Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party.

Mr Mishra, who was the BSP candidate from Faizabad Lok Sabha seat, told newspersons that he was taking a departure from the Mayawati’s party that faced a defeat in the recently concluded Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls.

“I was feeling suffocated in BSP, which remains biased towards a particular section of the society,” he asserted.

day today. Speaker Meira Kumar was forced to adjourn the proceedings till 1200 hrs.

Akhilesh Becomes 1st UP CM to Declare Assets Publicly

Akhilesh Yadav today became the first Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister to declare his assets publicly. Yadav (38), who declared his assets on the UP government website, owns three residential plots — two in Lucknow and one in Etawah — besides agriculture land worth Rs 98 lakh.

He has investments totalling Rs 1 crore, and Rs 1.18 crore in cash.

The Chief Minister also has a Pajero worth Rs 20 lakh and loan worth Rs 1.3 crore against his name.
