More than 1 million Saudi Arabians are now receiving unemployment benefit, the labour ministry said today, underlining a source of potential discontent that the rulers of the world’s top oil exporter are keen to contain.
The ‘Hafiz’ programme, which pays unemployed Saudis 2,000 riyals ($533) a month for up to one year, was
announced by King Abdullah during the Arab uprisings last spring and introduced in late 2011.

5 LET militants killed in Kashmir encounter

Five militants of Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) were killed today in two different encounters in the frontier district of Kupwara in north Kashmir.
The encounters took place at a time when Armny Chief General V K Singh was in the valley. Andhra Pradesh Minister for Revenue N.Raghuveera Reddy today informed in the State Assembly the government has fixed time limit of 30 days for issue of Community, Nativity and Date of Birth Certificates.
He said during question hour that the government also proposed to fix a time limit of seven days for issuance of Income and Residence Certificates.

Dropping terror charges against Ghandy hailed

Maoist sympathisers and activists Wednesday hailed a Delhi court decision to drop terror charges against Maoist leader Kobad Ghandy and demanded the release of all political prisoners.

“The decision is a slap on the face of the administration which has been running a malicious campaign against people like Ghandy,” People’s Union for Democratic Rights (PUDR) general secretary Gautam Navlakha said.

Suspected IM terrorist arrested in Delhi

A Delhi court on Wednesday remanded a suspected Indian Mujahideen terrorist, arrested yesterday with one kg of explosives and a detonator, in police custody for seven days.

Assadullah Rehman alias Dilkash (20), arrested from North-East Delhi, was produced before Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Vinod Yadav, who sent him to police custody till April 4.

The court directed the police to maintain a record of officials, who interrogate Dilkash and also asked them to wear a clear name tag to let the accused identify them.

100s of Afghan girls in jail for ‘moral crimes’

More than 400 women and teenage girls are currently languishing in jails across Afghanistan for “moral crimes”, a new research has claimed.

The research by Human Rights Watch found female inmates are being held for “immorality”, including running away from home to escape beatings or forced marriage or violent husbands and parents in-law, ‘The Daily Telegraph’ reported.

Nagam predicts mid-term assembly elections
