LeT plot to kill Modi: Stratfor knew before WikiLeaks

Global private intelligence group Stratfor knew that Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Tayiba was planning to assassinate Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi much before whistleblower WikiLeaks brought it before the world through its leaked US diplomatic cables.

In an internal email conversation, which was released by WikiLeaks along with several other Stratfor confidential mails, analysts have been quoted as saying, “We knew it… WikiLeak (though not original source of Info, but acted as vector/parasite) confirmed it.”

US says its special forces in India; Delhi says ‘no’

US special forces are based in India and four other South Asian countries, a Pentagon commander has said. India quickly denied hosting American troops on its soil.

The US and India are working together to contain Pakistan-based terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba, blamed for the 2008 Mumbai attack, US Pacific Commander Admiral Robert Willard told a Congressional hearing Thursday.

The teams were deployed to help India in counter-terrorism, in particular in the maritime domain, Willard said.

Un-identified Head found in Temple

Human sacrifice has gone up in rural areas the Guwahati police on Friday, Mar 2 found an unidentified man’s head in a plastic bag on a road leading to the famous Kamakhya temple.Police said that it could be a case of human sacrifice as the plastic bag has a piece of paper that had religious hymns written on it.

Meanwhile, the police confirmed that the deceased is not a local and search is on to trace the body. Police also suspect that the crime had been committed at some other place and then the head was brought to Kamakhya temple as there was no blood stain in the area.

Tirupati MLA K Chiranjeevi on Friday stated that he has not received any official communication from the Congress high command over his elevation as a member of the Rajya Sabha.

Responding to media reports that he might be nominated for the Rajya Sabha seat and would be given a berth in the union ministry, Chiranjeevi said that he would oblige the high command orders. “I have not received any communication from the high command about this,” he said while talking to reporters in assembly lobby.

Mom poses daughter nude on webcam

A Massachusetts woman who says she was duped into posing her 10-year-old daughter nude over a webcam for a man she thought was a professional photographer has been jailed.

The 41-year-old Attleboro mother pleaded guilty Tuesday to a charge of misdemeanor assault and battery under a plea deal. The charge was reduced from felony indecent assault and battery. A charge of posing a child in the nude was dropped.

The Sun Chronicle reports that the woman was sentenced to serve three months of a maximum 2-year term.

The mother’s name wasn’t released to protect her daughter’s identity.

Vitamin D may help treat women with uterine fibroids

In a study, researchers have found that treatment with vitamin D reduced the size of uterine fibroids in laboratory rats predisposed to developing the benign tumours.

Uterine fibroids are the most common non-cancerous tumours in women of childbearing age. Fibroids grow within and around the wall of the uterus. Thirty percent of women 25 to 44 years of age report fibroid-related symptoms, such as lower back pain, heavy vaginal bleeding or painful menstrual periods.

Pakistani students protest Qur’an burning at US base

Hundreds of students have staged a rally in the northwest of Pakistan to protest against the recent burning of the Holy Qur’an and other Islamic materials at a US military base in northern Afghanistan.

The protesters took to the streets in Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, situated 150 kilometers (93 miles) west of the Pakistani capital Islamabad, on Thursday, shouting anti-US slogans.

Outrage over abusive comments by Australian army against Muslims

Abusive comments by army soldiers against Muslims, immigrants and women on a Facebook group are sparking a storm of outrage in Australia.

“I am angry, I am disappointed, I am going to do something about it,” Army Chief Lieutenant General David Morrison told reporters on Thursday, March 1, Australia’s Sky News reported.

ABC TV revealed that more than 1,000 former and current army soldiers wrote abusive and racist comments against Muslims, immigrants and women on a Facebook group.

Woman beats two children to death

In a ghastly incident, a woman beat two small children of a family to death in a village in Shimla district while a third girl was injured, police said Thursday.

The woman, who has been arrested, said she was possessed by some spirit which directed her to commit the crime.

The incident occurred at Toladhar village in Kupvi tehsil near Chopal town, some 120 km from Shimla, Wednesday.

“She repeatedly hit the children – one 10-month old boy and second three-and-half-year old girl – with sticks till they died,” Deputy Superintendent of police N.S. Negi told IANS.

Illegal mining case: Janardhana Reddy remand extended

Amid tight security, Karnataka former Minister and mining baron Gali Janardhan Reddy was on Friday produced before a special court in Bangalore which remanded him to CBI custody till March 12, 2012 in connection with an illegal mining case.

Mr. Reddy and 20 others are facing charges for their alleged involvement in illegal mining, over which the Central Bureau of Investigation had filed an FIR against them in October 2011.

Mr. Reddy was brought to Bangalore from Hyderabad in the early hours of Friday and later escorted into the court.
