Rahul to blame if Congress performs badly: BJP

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi should get all the blame if his party does badly in the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kalraj Mishra Sunday said.

Mishra also said that the BJP had chances of doing well.

“The Congress has started saying Rahul Gandhi will not be responsible for loss, they have realised that Congress is slipping to fourth position,” he said.

Verma’s views on alliance with BSP personal: Congress

Distancing itself from union minister Beni Prasad Verma’s suggestion to tie up with the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in Uttar Pradesh, the Congress Sunday termed it his personal view and said any decision on alliances will be taken by the party high command.

“The party’s line is clear… if we get a majority then we will form the government otherwise we will sit in the opposition. Whatever he (Verma) has said is his personal view,” state Congress chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi told reporters here.

Waste water can generate electricity

American scientists have built a device that can generate electricity from waste water.

BBC said the team from Pennsylvania State University said the technology would simultaneously also treat the water. The scientists suggested the process could be adopted in developing countries to provide clean water as well as power for homes.

The study has been published in the journal Science.

Researchers in the Netherlands have for some years been exploring the idea of generating power along the country’s coastline, where fresh water from rivers meets the salt water of the sea.

CBI takes 13 years to scrutinise documents, gets court flak

Thirteen years to scrutinise documents of a case! The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) received flak from a Delhi court for taking such a long time to go over documents, thus prolonging the trial, during which five of the accused died. The youngest accused is now 59 years old.

“It took around 13 years for CBI to comply with the mandatory provision of supply of copies u/S 207, CrPC (Supply to the accused, the copy of police report and other documents),” Special Judge Dinesh Kumar Sharma said.

Congress should tie up with BSP: Beni Prasad Verma

Union Steel Minister Beni Prasad Verma Sunday said that it is better for the Congress to forge an alliance with the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) than join hands with the Samajwadi Party (SP) in Uttar Pradesh.

“(BSP chief) Mayawati is thousand times better than Mulayam Singh Yadav as she has been able to bring down the crime rate in the state in the last five years. The Congress should think about forging an alliance with the BSP,” the Congress leader told TV channels.

Claiming that this was his personal view, he said he would advocate an alliance with the BSP.

A woman in the US has been arrested for forcing an Indian woman from Kerala to work 17 hours a day. The woman was made to sleep in a walk-in closet, reveals Yahoo.com.

The wealthy owners paid the worker around 85 cents an hour even though the minimum wage in New York is $7.25 an hour. She was paid $29,000 but she should have been paid at least $206,000.

The owners of 30,000-square-foot home, known as Llenroc mansion, with a helicopter pad, 15 fireplaces, marble flooring, 24-karat gold gilded ceilings and a glass elevator, had hired the Indian woman to look after their four children.

Tortured 3-year-old eats own hair

A little boy who was locked up in a dark and cold room by cruel parents in Britain was so hungry that he ate his own hair.

The three-year-old’s mother and stepfather were put behind bars for ill-treating their child and keeping him locked in a bare room, reports Daily Mail.

The boy was starving and dehydrated and barely alive when he was rescued by a police officer. A social worker had had received a tip-off and passed on the information to the authorities.

Once the boy was given food to eat, a doctor told the daily that he was eating as if he had ‘never eaten before’.

Afghan woman murdered in Delhi

A 22-year-old Afghan woman was murdered by her boyfriend in a south Delhi guest house, police said Sunday.

The deceased Paimana, who was stabbed to death, was in a live-in relationship with the unidentified man, an officer said.

The incident took place Saturday night at around 10 p.m. in Shamsher Homestay guest house in Jangpura Extension.

According to the police, the assailant is absconding.

Rajya Sabha elections schedule announced

Election Commission of India has released the schedule of elections. For 15 states, there will be 58 Rajya Sabha seats for which elections are to be held. According to the strength of the Congress Party, four candidates could be elected to Rajya Sabha.

TDP can send two candidates to Rajya Sabha. Congress Party breathed the sigh of relief because a day before the announcement of election schedule by Election Commission speaker of A.P. Assembly disqualified 16 Congress MLA’s who violated Congress whip and voted against the party.
