BJP demands probe into the shortage of gas

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday demanded enquiry into the allocation of gas of KG Basin to power generating units in Andhra Pradesh.

In a letter to Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister S Jaipal Reddy, former minister Bandaru Dattatreyya said that the capacity of Well No D 6 of KG Basin, owned by Reliance, was 50 MMCM, but the actual production was not more than 30 MMCM. He alleged that the Reliance was deliberately cutting down the production to create artificial shortage.

CPI activists held for staging dharna at Boulder Hills

The Cyberabad police on Sunday took CPI State Secretary K Narayana and other activists into custody when they tried to enter the Emaar-MGF Boulder Hills at Gachibowli.

Demanding return of land given to Emaar-MGF, the CPI activists led by Narayana tried to enter the premises. Talking to reporters, Narayana alleged that the farmers, whose lands were taken for the project, were yet to be paid compensation. He demanded that the government return the land to farmers or immediately pay compensation for the same. He said the CPI would continue its protest till the affected farmers get justice.

A group of over three dozen men stripped a woman and paraded her naked around a village in Pakistan’s Punjab province after accusing her son of forcibly marrying a girl, police officials said on Sunday.

According to an FIR lodged with police, over three dozen men of the Gopang tribe raided the home of Manzooran Mai in Khundai village of Muzaffargarh district, 350 km from Lahore, yesterday and took the woman and her daughter-in-law Azra away with them.

Two Sohrab case witnesses arrested in land scam

Three builders, including two prime witnesses in the 2005 Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case, were arrested in connection with a Rs 100-crore land scam on Sunday, city crime branch officials said here.

The two witnesses, Dashrat Patel and Raman Patel, and their relative, Pankaj Patel, who own a construction firm ‘Popular Builders’, were arrested on the basis of a complaint filed in 2010, police said.

The three builders were accused of forging documents to acquire land in Sachin, Unn Taluka, they added.

Six-year-old killed for ransom

A six-year-old boy was kidnapped and killed for ransom in Thakurganj area, police said on Saturday.

The body of Onkar Tiwari alias Shivam, who was missing since Thursday, was recovered from the jungle around two kilometers from his house in Thakurganj on Friday, they said.

Police said that Raja Ram Tiwari, a businessman, had lodged an FIR regarding disappearance of his son late on Thursday night.

The family members later received a call from the kidnappers demanding Rs. three lakh for the boy’s safe release.

Obama invokes Gandhi in support for second term

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Nehru Olekar, who is a member of the panel that is probing into the Karnataka Assembly porn scan, has said that not just three, but as many as 15 MLAs watched porn in the Karnataka Assembly.
The panel member also said that those watching porn included not just MLAs of the BJP, but also members of the Opposition.

Ponnam meets Rayapati seeking support for Telangana

Two Congress MPs on Sunday tried to prove that Telangana issue could be resolved through dialogue.

Karimnagar MP Ponnam Prabhakar called upon Guntur MP Rayapati Sambasiva Rao at latter’s residence to discuss the Telangana issue. Later, talking to reporters Ponnam said that the MPs from Seemandhra region, who are opposing statehood for Telangana, should introspect and find out the reasons that led more than 700 students to commit suicide for the cause. BSP leader found dead in Kanpur

Bahujan Samaj Party(BSP) leader Pradip Shankhwar was found dead in mysterious circumstances in Barara area of Kanpur city last night. According to police the deceased, husband of former Zila Panchayat chairperson Mira Shankhwar, went to Ghatampur to meet his friend and they consumed liquor in their car. Later the deceased fell unconscious and was rushed to the hospital where he was declared dead. Prima facie police report said that consumption of liquor could be the reason behind the death. However, the post-mortem report will reveal the real reason behind the death.

Israel’s ultimatum to Obama on Iran n-plans

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is to deliver an ultimatum to the US over Iran’s nuclear plans, a media report said Sunday.

At Monday’s meeting between Netanyahu and US President Barack Obama, the Israeli prime minister will deliver a stark warning, The Telegraph reported.

Netanyahu effectively brings with him an ultimatum, demanding that unless the president makes a firm pledge to use US military force to prevent Iran acquiring a nuclear bomb, Israel may well take matters into its own hands within months, it said.

One killed, three injured in Jamshedpur fire

One person died and three were injured when a major fire broke out in Jharkhand’s steel city of Jamshedpur, Sunday, police said.

According to police, fire broke out in the Chayanagar neighbourhood of the city and gutted more than a dozen houses. One person died and three were injured in the fire. The injured have been admitted to a local hospital.

Locals alleged that the fire brigade vehicle reached late to extinguish the fire. The fire spread very fast as the houses were made of bamboo. Rescue operations are going on in the area.

The cause of the fire is yet to ascertained.

‘Jealous woman architect plotted Shehla Masood murder’

The CBI probe into Madhya Pradesh RTI activist Shehla Masood’s murder has hinted at arrested woman architect Zahida Parvez being the brain behind the killing as she was jealous of Masood’s alleged friendship with a legislator, sources said Sunday.

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) sleuths who recovered four personal diaries written by Zahida Parvez, 35, between 2009 and 2012, claimed that she was “obsessed” with Bharatiya Janata Party’s Bhopal legislator Dhruv Narayan Singh.
