Acharya surrenders, shifted to Chanchalguda Jail

Following the directions of High Court, suspended IAS officer and the prime accused in Emaar Properties case B P Acharya on Thursday surrendered before the court.

The court remanded Acharya to judicial custody till Friday. Following the directions of the court, the police have shifted Acharya to Chanchalguda Jail.

Meanwhile, the court also rejected Acharya’s petition seeking Special Category for him in the prison.

CPM condemns passing of Appropriation Bill without debate

CPI (M) Floor Leader Julakanti Rangareddy on Thursday took serious note on the State Government for passing the Appropriation Bill without any debate in the House.

Talking to media persons at Assembly media point, he slammed the government for its failure to discuss the allotment of funds for government programmes, resource mobilisation, levying of taxes on people and priority areas in the Budget except claiming tall figure of Rs 1.45 lakh crore.

Aruna slams opposition for politicising RDS

Information and Public Relations Minister D K Aruna on Thursday accused the leaders of the Mahbubnagar district for politicizing the Rajolibanda Diversion Scheme (RDS) to get mileage on it.

Talking to media persons at Assembly Media Point, Aruna condemned the political leaders for provoking people in villages on RDS to get political mileage on water sharing. She said that the government was taking all measures to release 2 TMC of water from the RDS by Friday evening to meet the drinking water needs of villages in Mahbubnagar district.

National Project status proposed for Pranahita-Chevella project

Major and Medium Irrigation Minister P Sudardhan Reddy on Thursday informed the State Legislative Assembly that the State Government has sent the proposals to identify Pranahita-Chevella Project as National Project.

In his reply to a question raised by TRS MLA T Harish Rao and others, the minister said that the proposals have been furnished to the Union Ministry of Water Resources. The target year for the completion of the project is 2018-2019, he said. (INN)

State proposes to set up new ESI Hospitals

The State Government is planning to set up new ESI Hospitals across the State.

Replying to a question raised by MLA P Mahender Reddy in the State Legislative Assembly, Labour and Employment Minister D Nagender admitted that there were proposals to establish new ESI Hospitals. Regarding an ESI Hospital at Tandur, he said that the feasibility of establishment was under study based on a re-survey taken up by the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation as per their norms.

CAG exposes multi-crore land scam in AP

The Comptroller and Auditor General of India on Thursday exposed a multi-crore land allotment scam in Andhra Pradesh.

In its report, tabled in the State Legislative Assembly on Thursday, on land allotments, the CAG has pointed out several irregularities relating to allotment of land by the State Government. The CAG has conducted a performance audit of ‘land allotment’ covering the allotments made by the State Government during the five year period from 2006 to 2011.

Assembly worked for just 88 hours in 29 days

The budget session of the State Legislative Assembly which started on February 13 concluded on Thursday with the State Government passing the Appropriation Bill without debate.

According to the statistics, the Assembly functioned for 29 days and worked for 88 hours and 14 minutes. However, on an average, the assembly worked for a little over three hours on each working day to discuss and pass a budget of Rs 1.45 lakh crore.

Israel begins new air and ground assaults on Gaza

Hyderabad Girl Commits Suicide In Mumbai

An 18-year-old girl Ranjala Kusuma Srisambhavi, who had come from Hyderabad, today commited suicide in Hotel Highway Residency here, police said.

The girl came to Mumbai on Tuesday afternoon and told the hotel staff that she would stay for a day in the hotel.

The girl was found dead in Room no. 104 alongwith a suicide note saying nobody should be held responsible for her death.

Police said, the parents had lodged a missing complaint on March 3 in Hyderabad’s J B Metal police station, after she ran away from her home.

Sachin Tendulkar Meets Yuvraj In London

Yuvraj Singh, recovering after his treatment in a US hospital for a rare germ cell cancer, got a morale-boosting visit by his idol Sachin Tendulkar.

The two met for an hour at an apartment of Yuvraj’s friend here yesterday.

Yuvi, as he is fondly called by his fans, got a warm embrace from Sachin and the two posed for photographs.

Sachin also wished Yuvraj a speedy recovery and an early return to the game.

Yuvraj’s fondness for Tendulkar is well-documented and the left-hander dedicated his 2011 World Cup Player-of-the-Tournament to the senior batsman.

Wi-Fi connectivity on Howrah Rajdhani from September

Indian Railways plans to provide internet facility using Wi-Fi in three rakes of the Howrah Rajdhani Express by September this year, as a pilot project, the Lok Sabha was informed Thursday.

“It is a satellite-based system using a Wi-Fi for distribution of internet bandwidth in coaches and the likely date for implementation of this system is Sep 25, 2012,” said Minister of State for Railways, K.H. Muniyappa.

He said the estimated cost of implementation of the project is Rs.6.30 crore.

Deve Gowda was offered bribe when he was PM, says Kumaraswamy

Fifteen years after his father’s stint as India’s Prime Minister, former Karnataka chief minister H D Kumaraswamy Thursday claimed that H D Deve Gowda was offered bribe by middlemen involved in defence deals but the Janta Dal(S) supremo categorically denied it.

“The middlemen had approached me and my father with an offer of bribe to strike a defence deal… This when my father was prime minister in 1996,” Kumaraswamy said, adding grist to the raging controversy over bribery charges in defence procurement. He, however, did not provide any evidence to support his claim.

Daughter thrown in Nile over marriage

An Egyptian man and other members of his family tied his daughter up and dumped her in the Nile after she was divorced from her ageing husband.

But she was rescued in the last minute by fishermen.

The girl had first refused to marry that man but then yielded to family pressure and wedded him, newspapers said in a report from Cairo.

A few months later, her life turned into a hell because of persistent disputes and maltreatment by her husband, they said.

As a result, the woman was divorced and she returned to her family, who decided to pressure her again to return to her bus band.

Drunk teenager tries to kill his mother

Abu Dhabi police arrested an Emirati teen ager for getting drunk and chasing his mother with a knife inside their house, pushing her to jump down from the first floor, resulting in fractures all over her body.

The boy, identified as MA, had asked his mother to give him her car and demanded money but she refused on the grounds he was under the influence of alcohol, the Arabic language daily Alittihad said.

Infuriated by her refusal, he pulled a knife and attacked her but she ran into her room and locked the door, it said.

Govt to bring reforms in jails: Sabita

Andhra Pradesh Home Minister Sabita Indra Reddy today informed in the state Assembly government has taken up reforms in jails to bring transformation in prisoners.

Responding to members during Question hour, the Minister said the government from time to time had been issuing guidelines for release of Life convicts and as many as 1252 prisoners were released during the last three years.
