Three arrested for running fake passport racket

Three persons have been arrested from Hussainganj area here for allegedly running a fake passport racket, police said on Thursday.

Acting on a tip-off, Awsaar, Aziz and Junaid were arrested from near Deendayal park last evening and 23 fake passports were recovered from their possession, they said.

During interrogation, the trio purportedly confessed that they used to charge Rs 30,000 from job aspirants to send them out of the country on fake passports.

Minor fire in Shatabdi Express

Hundreds of passengers on board the Shatabdi Express had a close shave Thursday evening in Uttar Pradesh after a minor fire broke out under a coach, leading to panic.

According to officials, the fire was immediately contained after smoke was noticed by passengers. The New Delhi-bound train was halted using emergency brakes.

The fire was blamed on “brake-lock jamming”.

Anil Kumar Saxena, the additional director general in the railway ministry, told IANS here that the train had been stopped at Ekdil railway station, on the outskirts of Etawah.

Three dead, four injured in separate accidents

Three persons, including two brothers, were killed and four others injured in separate accidents in this district, police said on Thursday.

Ramesh Chand Kaushik from Dadri was going for his daughter’s engagement ceremony to Moradabad in a Tata mini truck when the vehicle was hit from behind by a UP roadways bus.

Two brothers Sonu (25) and Rohit (23) and the driver Kailash (35) died in hospital.

Pakistan sacks doctor who helped CIA track Osama

Pakistan on Thursday sacked the government doctor who had helped CIA track down Osama bin Laden in the garrison town of Abbottabad in May last year, amid calls for trying him for treason.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti sacked the doctor, Shakeel Afridi, on disciplinary grounds under his discretionary powers.

The provincial government issued a notification for the dismissal of Afridi, officials said.

Hyderabad Hussainsagar for sale

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation will put a price on Hussainsagar water once they start releasing treated water into the lake. The HMDA has taken up the Hussainsagar Lake and Catchment Area Improvement Project (HCIP) at an estimated cost of `370 crore, mostly funded by Japan International Cooperation Agency.

BUMS free coaching by Siasat

A Canadian professor embraces Islam

An English language Canadian professor at King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah has embraced Islam at the headquarters of the World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY) in Jeddah where he pronounced the Shahadas before Sheikh Abdulilah Al-Ajlan, Assistant Director of WAMY for Da’wa Programs.

Prof. Woelke, who changed his name to Dawood, said he was fully convinced to embrace Islam especially after he studied the Holy Qur’an and many books about Islam.

Girls use their bodies for smuggling drugs

Octomom Nadya Suleman, who posed nude to reveal her post-pregnancy body for Closer magazine, says she isn’t ashamed of her topless act.

The 36-year-old made the decision to go half-naked because the shoot was for a women’s magazine not a men’s spread and she didn’t think the depiction would be “hyper-sexualised,” reports tmz.com.

Admitting the move was made out of desperation as she’s close to broke, she told the website: “I’m not ashamed of doing it. I feel as though no woman or man should be ashamed of their body.”

Ra.One animator first surgery successful

Red Chillies animator, Charu Khandal, who has been battling for life in Kokilaben Ambani hospital after a drunk Honda City driver hit her, went through neck surgery on Thursday. According to sources, the surgery was successful.

Charu was hit by a speeding Honda City on Sunday when she was returning home in an auto along with her sister Ritu and friend Vikrant Goyal.

While Ritu suffered only minor injuries, Goyal’s condition is also said to be serious.

’37 % Delhi government school toilets very dirty’

37% of toilets in the capital’s government schools are “very dirty” and in “subhuman” condition, a survey done by the NGO CRY has revealed.

The study by Child Rights and You (CRY) Thursday said 318 toilets were scrutinised in 44 schools across the city and the situation was the worst in schools in the northwest, northeast and outer districts of Delhi.

Interestingly, the survey revealed that 15 percent of the toilets in all the schools were reserved for staff and were much cleaner.

Toddler body found at New Delhi railway station

Body of an unidentified toddler was found on Thursday in a toilet at the New Delhi railway station, police said.

The body of a one-and-a-half-year-old child was found in the ladies’ toilet at platform number 1 around 6 PM, they said.

According to police, there were no external injury marks on the body. The case is being probed.

Doctor couple torture 13-year-old maid

In a shocking incident a doctor couple residing in Dwarka here locked their thirteen-year-old maid and left for Bangkok on a six-day tour.

It is being said that the teenager was not left with enough food to eat.

The girl also said that the couple has installed cameras inside the house and watch the footage when they come back from tours.

If she was found committing any mistake in work or was found eating anything then they would beat her up.

The girl was never paid for her services and was brought from an employment agency in Jharkhand.

Youth shoots at cops inside Kanpur police station

A sub-inspector and a constable of Uttar Pradesh police were shot at and critically wounded inside a police station by a drunken youth here early Friday, police said.

Sub-inspector Devendra Singh was shot at twice in the head by a youth at the Naubasta police station where he is the station officer. He was rushed to the Regency Hospital where he is battling for life, police spokesman said.

The constable injured in the firing is in serious condition but out of danger.

Rupee gains 23 paise to 51.17 against dollar

The rupee appreciated by 23 paise to 51.17 against the US dollar in early trade Friday on the Interbank Foreign Exchange market as the American currency fell against the euro and other currencies overseas.

Besides gains in euro and other currencies against the US dollar, a higher opening in the equity market and dollar selling by exporters supported the rupee, dealers said.

The rupee had plunged by 62 paise to close at almost 11-week low of Rs 51.40/41 in yesterday’s trade against the dollar on sustained demand for the US currency from importers.

Curfew imposed in Sangareddy after communal violence ‎

Communal violence broke out in Sangareddy town of Andhra Pradesh, forcing the police to clamp indefinite curfew. Twenty people were injured and several shops were set afire in the large scale violence late on Thursday night in Sangareddy town of Medak district, about 70 km from Hyderabad.

The police on Friday said the situation was peaceful but tense. A police officer said patrolling has been intensified in the sensitive areas and the curfew was continuing as a precautionary measure.

Arab leaders tackle Syria crisis at Baghdad summit

Arab leaders on Thursday urged a peaceful solution to the crisis in Syria at a landmark summit in Baghdad, marred by stayaways and a mortar attack near the Iranian embassy as the meeting opened.

Only nine visiting leaders of the 22-member Arab League turned up for the summit, the first to be held in the Iraqi capital in more than 20 years, which was opened with a call for peace by UN chief Ban Ki-moon.

Police bust flesh trade racket, 5 arrested

The cops busted a prostitution racket allegedly being run by the mother of female sub-inspector with the Jaipur Police on Wednesday afternoon.

Five people, including three prostitutes, a pimp and a customer, were arrested from a house in Jawahar Nagar area.

The 60-year-old pimp resisted arrest saying her daughter was an SI with the police department, police sources said.

CBI takes voice samples of Zahida, Saba

The CBI, probing into RTI activist Shehla Masood murder case, on Thursday recorded voice samples of prime accused Zahida Parvez and her accomplice Saba Faruqui.

The agency took the voice samples of Zahida and Saba in the district jail where they are under a judicial custody till April 3.

Special CBI court judge Shubhra Singh, taking cognisance of the apex investigating agency, on March 26 had allowed the CBI to take voice sample of Zahida and Saba in the district jail.
