Two ‘crime reporters’ arrested for extortion

Posing as crime reporters, the two would extort money from NGOs and businessmen by threatening to expose them in the media but were exposed and arrested, police said Saturday.

Mithun Singh Rajput, 24 and Gursharan Kaur, 37, both residents of Delhi, were running an extortion racket for the last couple of years wherein they posed as crime reporters of a weekly newspaper “Rashtra Ki Aawaz- Aaj Tak”, police said.

They would approach businessmen and NGO’s and would threaten to expose their ‘negative’ deeds if they failed to give them the amount of money asked.

The two accused Industrialists, AK Dandamudi and Madhav Ramchandran have given a statement in the local court that former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister late YS Rajasekhar Reddy had asked them to invest in YSR Congress president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s firms.

While, Dandamudi, a resident of Gunrock Enclave in Secunderabad invested Rs 10 crore, Ramchandran of Bengaluru had invested Rs 19.6 crore for Jagan’s firms.

Two men chop off friend’s hand to claim insurance

Two men in the US allegedly chopped off a third man’s hand with a pole saw so that the three of them could file for an insurance claim.

The men from South Carolina state received a payout of over $671,000 (426,275 pounds) from a homeowner’s insurance policy and three accidental death and dismemberment policies, the Daily Mail reported.

Gerald Hardin, 34, faces six charges, including mail fraud for the 2008 incident in Florida’s Sumter County, WMBFnews reported.

Car bomb blast kills 21 in Yemen

Saana, February 25: A Yemeni health official says a car bomb outside the gate of a presidential compound in a southern city has killed at least 21 people, hours after the country’s new president was formally inaugurated.

The health official said the fatalities in the blast Saturday in the city of al-Mukalla were presidential guards. A security official said it was a suicide blast. He did not provide a death toll.

Both officials spoke on condition of anonymity as they were not allowed to speak to the press.

Southern separatists and Islamist insurgents are active in the region.

Hyderabad, February 25: Revenue Minister N. Raghuveera Reddy on Friday released the preliminary key of the Village Revenue Officer (VRO) and Village Revenue Assistant (VRA) recruitment test held on February 19.

The key has been made available on website http://ccla.egg.gov.in and the website of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad, which conducted the written test — http://www.jntu.ac.in.

The final key would be released on March 2 and the results would be released on March 12.

Osama’s compound in Abbottabad demolished

The compound in the garrison town of Abbottabad where Osama bin laden was killed by US special forces last year was demolished by Pakistani authorities tonight amidst tight security, local residents said.

Heavy machinery and cranes were moved to the compound, located about 800 yards from the elite Pakistan Military Academy, this evening as security agencies closed all roads leading to the house in Bilal Town, local residents told the media.

Building collapse in Monda Market, 3 killed several injured

At least three persons were killed when the roof of a building collapsed in the busy Monda Market in Secunderabad. One person is identified as Mohammed Shafi native of Bihar.

The incident occurred when the labourers were carrying out repair works for Punjab Bar and Restaurant in Monda Market.
