Team Anna stepped up its attack on Congress ahead of the final phase of polling in Uttar Pradesh targeting Sonia and Rahul Gandhi in particular.

Speaking at a public meeting on Saturday, Team Anna member Manish Sisodia said that while Sonia Gandhi abuses Mayawati and Mulayam Singh Yadav in UP, she praises them in Delhi.

He also slammed the BJP for allegedly dividing the nation in the name of religion and accused all political parties of not maintaining political ethics.

Sisodia also sold “Join Anna Movement Recharge Coupon 2012” on the occasion.

Bullish FII pump in over $5.5 bn into Indian markets

Overseas investors are continuing to invest in Indian equities markets at a brisk pace with inflows already topping $5.5 billion in under two months of trading of 2012.

Fire at Howrah station

A fire broke out at the Howrah railway station – the second-oldest and the country’s largest railway complex – Sunday but it was quickly doused. No loss of life or property was reported.

“A fire broke out at the new complex of the Howrah station which houses the current booking office. Two fire engines were pressed into service and the fire was extinguished shortly. No loss of life or property has been reported,” a railway spokesman said.

Karimnagar police prevents Kavitha from unveiling statue

Telangana Jagruti president K Kavitha was taken into custody by the Karimnagar police on Sunday while she was proceeding to a village to unveil the statue of tribal leadeer Kommaram Bheem.

Kavitha was arrested near Chittakani in Kataram mandal. She was scheduled to go Yemenpalli near Manthan of Karimnagar district. Police said that the statue was installed without permission and therefore, its unveiling was disallowed by the police.

Anakapalli MP K Sabbamhari on Sunday claimed that YS Jagan Mohan Reddy will become the Chief Minister after next elections.

Britain draws up battle plan against Iran

Britain is reportedly drawing up a battle plan for a war with Iran as top defence officials believe London will be “sucked into” any new conflict with Tehran.

Plans are being made to send hundreds of troops and an nuclear submarine to the Gulf region, The Sun reported.

Defence officials believe it is just a matter of when the war breaks out — with the timescale set between 18 and 24 months.

41 MRDS to come up in Hyderabad : NDMA VC

Forty-one Mobile Radiation Detection Systems (MRDS) will set up in the state capital soon to detect radioactive material using in acts of terrorism and disruption.

Talking to mediapersons here today, National Disaster Managment Authority (NDMA) Vice-Chairman M Shashidhar Reddy said such systems would come up at all major cities across the country as part of the preparedness to handle radiological emergencies like the one that hit the Mayapuri area in Delhi in 2010 when one person died and eight people were hospitalised for radiation exposure.

Obama calls US commander over Afghan violence

US President Barack Obama telephoned the top American commander in Afghanistan Saturday to discuss the ongoing violence over the Quran burning.

Obama thanked Gen. John Allen, commander of the US and NATO forces in Afghanistan, for the “measures he is taking to protect our service members and civilians”, the White House said in a statement.

Washington “remains committed to a partnership with the government and people of Afghanistan, as we work to realize our shared goal of disrupting, dismantling and defeating Al Qaeda,” Xinhua quoted the statement as saying.

Shoaib Akhtar escapes unhurt in car accident

Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar escaped unhurt after his car rammed into the barricades near the Prime Minister Secretariat here Sunday.

Akhtar was returning home from a five-star hotel when the accident took place. The front portion of his car was badly damaged but he was lucky tocome out of it unhurt, The Express Tribune reported.

The police did not file any case and allowed the retired cricketer to go home.

Woman held for having 2 husbands

Saudi Arabia’s religious police arrested a woman for having two husbands at the same time and also practicing sorcery, a newspaper reported on Saturday.

Members of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice trapped the woman after receiving a tip off that she had two husbands in two cities at the same time, ‘Kabar’ Arabic language daily said.

After arresting her, she confessed to practicing sorcery and having two husbands in the capital Riyadh and the western town of Madina.
The paper did not say if the two husbands know they are married to the same woman.

Stay away from communal clashes in future: Tahir -ul-Qadri

Pakistani Islamic scholar Tahir-ul Qadri, who is known for his anti-terror stand, today said, when asked about the 2002 Godhra riots, that people should forget the past and ensure that such communal clashes do not occur in future. Qadri, who has been facing threats for his condemnation of terrorism by various outfits in Pakistan, including Taliban, has come here on an invitation by Karjan-based Minhajul Quran International (India), a branch of the UK-based MQI, headed by Qadri himself.

APSMFC enhances state’s bankable units to aid minorities

Andhra Pradesh State Minorities Financial Corporation [APSMFC] has decided to enhance the state’s bankable units to 16,666, so as to aid the minorities in seeking self employment and to provide economical assistance. The bank-linked subsidy scheme of APSMFC was started in the year 2008. For their bankable schemes, APSMFC was allotted with Rs 25 crore by the state annual budget, for the year 2012-13; whereas for the last year, the budget allotment was a mere Rs 8.7 crore.

China plans to build world’s largest airport

China is planning to build the world’s largest airport at the cost of around USD 15 billion, which will replace America’s Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport as the busiest airport in the world.

Beijing is to build a new airport, which is likely to be the world’s largest in terms of passenger traffic, to the southeast of the city, official media reported here today.

The new airport, yet to be named, is to be located on the border between Beijing and Langfang, a city in north China’s Hebei province located about 45 kilometres from Beijing’s city centre.

Private cranes source of income for traffic police officials

Increasing traffic has been worrying both for the traffic police and the public. Some officials are taking advantage of this situation. The traffic police hired 14 private cranes for which they are paying Rs. 4,200 daily which works out to Rs. 1,28,000 per month. It is a question to be investigated that who is getting benefit out of it? Govt. owns only 7 cranes.
