Five injured in US high school shooting

Five students were wounded in US’ Ohio state after a gunman opened fire in the cafeteria of a suburban high school just as the school day was beginning Monday, according to law enforcement officials.

The suspected Chardon High School shooter — believed to be a student, according to a school official — was in custody, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) special agent Scott Wilson told reporters, reported CNN.

‘UAE committed to support Pakistan’s security’

The United Arab Emirates Monday has reiterated its commitment to help Pakistan’s security and stability besides providing political, economic, and educational support to the Pakistanis.

UAE’s Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan made the remarks during a joint press conference with Pakistan’s Foreign Affairs Minister Hina Rabbani Khaar, at the end of the 10th UAE-Pakistan Joint Committee meetings in Abu Dhabi.

Sheikh Abdullah said Pakistan features among UAE’s key trade partners with trade exchange between the two countries reaching $2.6 billion in 2011.

Muslim-Jat card to be tested in Tuesday’s poll

The Muslim card, played heavily by the Congress party, will be on test Tuesday when 68 Uttar Pradesh assembly constituencies go to poll during the sixth and penultimate phase of the ogoing election.

Four of the 13 districts witnessing the poll have a substantial Muslim population ranging between 25-39 percent, while the remaining nine districts have 18-22 percent Muslims.

Fardeen Khan’s sister dies in south Delhi car crash

Two people, including the half-sister of Bollywood actor Fardeen Khan, were killed in a collision of two cars in south Delhi early Monday, police said.

Khan’s half sister, Sonia Sethia, wife of businessman Rajendra Sethia, was returning home in New Friends Colony from dinner at a friend’s home in Gulmohar Park, when a Swift Dzire coming at very high speed, rammed into their Honda City car on August Kranti Marg.

Rajasthan IPS officer surrenders in Dara Singh case

Suspended Indian Police Service (IPS) officer A.K. Jain surrendered before a court in Rajasthan Monday, nine months after he disappeared fearing arrest for his alleged role in the case of killing of criminal Dara Singh in a staged shoot-out, a lawyer said.

The special CBI court here remanded Jain, who was additional director general of police for home guards before his disappearance in May last year, to one-day judicial custody.

Traffic deaths decline in UAE

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) saw an about 13 percent decline in the number of people killed in traffic accidents in 2011 as compared to 2010.

According to statistical reports by interior ministry’s general administration of traffic coordination (GATC), during 2011, it registered 720 deaths caused by traffic accidents, against 826 deaths in 2010. The death rates went down from 10 per 100,000 of the population to 8.4 within the same period.

Jesus predicts Prophet’s coming in Old Bible

A secret Bible has been found in Turkey, in which Jesus Christ is believed to have foretold the coming of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessing be upon him) to the Earth.

“In line with Islamic belief, the Gospel treats Jesus as a human being and not a God,” Turkish culture and tourism minister Ertugrul Gunay told the Daily Mail.

Four held for raping Noida teen but cops have a different story

FOUR persons were arrested on Sunday for the rape of a 16- year- old girl in Noida on Friday, while a fifth accomplice is still at large.Those arrested have been identified as Himanshu Sharma ( 23), Rahul Kumar ( 24), Sunil Singh ( 22) and Saurabh Chauhan ( 23).

The vehicle in which the girl was allegedly raped — a Hyundai i10 — was also seized from the accused.

According to the girl, she met three of the accused, who were known to her, near Priyadarshini Park in Noida on Friday.

She said they lured her to a room in Sector- 53 under the pretext of inviting her to a party.

Gadkari skips questions on Yeddyurappa

BJP president Nitin Gadkari Monday refused to take questions from the media related to former Karnataka chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa’s claim that incumbent Chief Minister Sadanand Gowda was only a “temporary” arrangement.

Gadkari said he will address media queries on the subject only when he is in Bangalore.

“Ask me some questions on Goa. I will answer this when I am in Bangalore,” Gadkari said.

Rahul mocks at Advani’s anti-corruption yatra

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi today had a dig at LK Advani’s nation-wide yatra on the issue of corruption, saying he failed to see scams in Uttar Pradesh and BJP-ruled states like Uttarakhand and Karnataka.

‘Buried under avalanche, help came from the sky’

Trapped in his relative’s house after a massive avalanche buried the village, Abdul Rafique Lone had given up all hopes of survival when he heard the sound of a helicopter and saw a soldier jumping off it on a risky rescue mission.

Clashes leave 21 dead in NW Pakistan

The offensive carried out in response to an earlier ambush by insurgents against a convoy of soldiers, also left at least two others injured in the Tasakhel area of upper Orakzai tribal region.

Chemical in bad breath ‘influences’ dental stem cells

Hydrogen sulphide, the gas famed for generating the stench in stink bombs, flatulence and bad breath, has been harnessed by stem cell researchers in Japan.

Their study, in the Journal of Breath Research, investigated using it to help convert stem cells from human teeth into liver cells.

The scientists claimed the gas increased the purity of the stem cells.

Small amounts of hydrogen sulphide are made by the body.

It is also produced by bacteria and is toxic in large quantities.

Climate change alters bird migration patterns

Rising temperatures, triggered by climate change, are forcing birds to alter their migration patterns.

The finding is based on data from eBird, a database containing 10 years’ worth of observations from amateur birdwatchers. Since 2002, eBird has collected more than 48 million bird observations from roughly 35,000 contributors.

Allen Hurlbert, assistant professor of biology at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, and his team analyzed when 18 different bird species arrived at various points across their migration journeys, the journal Public Library of Science reports.

MAKKI PANEER PAKORA RECIPE

Ingredients:

1/2 tsp cumin powder
2 tblsp coriander leaves chopped
oil for deep frying
6 tblsp bengal gram flour besan
salt to taste
2 tsp ginger chopped
2 tsp garlic chopped
2 green chilli chopped
1 cup milk
1 3/4 tsp dry mango powder amchur
1 onion chopped
100 gms cottage cheese (paneer)
200 gm corn fresh (makki)

How to make makki paneer pakora :

Crush the corn in a blender.
Grate the cottage cheese.
Heat up oil in a pan, mix in cut ginger and garlic and stir fry till pink.
Mix in crushed corn and stir fry.
Mix in salt and mix.

METHI PULAO RECIPE

Ingredients:

11/2 Cup Long Grain (Basmati) Rice
1 cup green peas
50gms paneer (cut into small cubes and deep fried)
A small bunch of methi (fenugreek) leaves (chopped)
2 tomatoes (chopped)
4-5 flakes of garlic (paste)
2-3 green chilies (chopped)
1/4th tsp. turmeric powder
Red chili powder to taste
Salt to taste
1tbsp oil/butter

How to make methi pulao:

Wash methi properly and drain the water and keep aside.
Heat oil in the pan and add garlic paste and fry till light brown.

KADHAI PANEER RECIPE

Ingredients:

250 gms Cottage Cheese (Paneer)
3 Capsicum (Shimla Mirch)
4 Onion (Pyaj)
4 Tomato (Tamatar)
1 ” long piece Ginger (Adrak)
1 tsp Red Chili Powder (Lal Mirchi)
2 Bay Leaf (Tej Patta)
4 Cloves (Lavang)
1 piece Cinnamon (Tuj/Dalchini)
Little Orange Color
4 tblsp Clarified Butter (Ghee)

How to make kadhai paneer:

Cut cottage cheese, capsicum in long pieces.
Grind onion, tomato, ginger, salt, red chili powder and orange color.
Mince cloves and cinnamom.
Heat clarified butter in a pan.
Add bay leaf, cloves, cinnamon.
Then add onion, tomato, ginger paste.

SHAMI KABAB RECIPE

Ingredients:

500 gms minced Mutton
2 Eggs
1meduim sized chopped Onion (Pyaj)
5 Green Chilly (Hari Mirch) chopped
100 gms Bengal Gram (Chana) soaked overnight
10 pods Garlic (Lasan / Lahsun)
1 tsp Cumin Seed (Jeera)
4 Cardamoms
1 ” long piece Cinnamon (Tuj/Dalchini)
1 ” long piece Ginger (Adrak)
6 Pepper corns (Kalimirchi)
4 Red Chillies
Clarified Butter (Ghee)

How to make shami kabab:

Boil minced meat in 3 cups of water and a teaspoonful of salt till water is absorbed and meat is tender.
Grind meat into a fine paste.
