RSS Slams Anna Hazare

Patna, February 06: The RSS today slammed Gandhian Anna Hazare for failing to acknowledge that its workers had played an “active role” in his nationwide crusade against corruption last year, though the Sangh itself was not part of the civil society agitation.

“It is a fact that the Sangh workers in individual capacity did play an active role in the anti-corruption crusade by the civil society headed by Hazare…. It baffles me as to whay the former did not acknowledge the fact,” RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat told reporters.

Iran Navy saves oil tanker from pirates

Tehran, February 06: Iran’s Navy warships have foiled a pirate attack on an Iranian oil tanker close to the Bab el-Mandeb strait, which connects the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden off the coast of lawless Somalia.

“The Iranian oil tanker was attacked by 35 pirate boats on Sunday afternoon,” Iranian Navy Deputy Commander Rear Admiral Seyyed Mahmoud Mousavi said.

He added that the Iranian warships patrolling the area rushed to the aid of the oil tanker upon receiving its distress call, which reported an unauthorized boarding attempt by several people.

Israel, US to talk Iran in March

Tehran, February 06: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is slated to pay an official visit to the United States in early March where he will likely hold talks with US government officials on Iran.

The upcoming visit was announced by Netanyahu’s office on Sunday.

The prime minister is set to address the annual conference of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) lobby group, which is to commence in Washington on March 3.

Israel’s President Shimon Peres will also attend the conference, according to AIPAC’s website.

Mubarak may be moved to prison hospital

Cairo, February 06: Former Egyptian dictator, Hosni Mubarak, is likely to be moved to the capital Cairo’s Torah prison hospital, a government official says.

Mubarak is currently being held at a military hospital on the outskirts of the capital.

Protesters have long been complaining that the ruling Supreme Council of Armed Forces (SCAF) has been sparing Mubarak the humiliation of prison by keeping him in a military hospital.

Salman To Go To US To Get His Brain Aneurysm Checked

Mumbai, February 06: Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has shelved the sequel to his superhit film Bodyguard and is planning to go to the United States from Cuba, to get his brain aneurysm checked, reports.

In Cuba presently for shooting Ek Tha Tiger, Salman is flying to the US for a thorough health check-up to examine the size of the aneurysm in his head, which results from the abnormal swelling of an artery due to weak walls of the blood vessel.

Actress Arrested In Pune On Prostitution Charge

Pune, February 06: A Tamil actress Caroline Mariya Asan was arrested , for alleged involvement in a prostitution case from a five-star hotel in Viman Nagar here on Saturday evening, police said

“We laid a trap and sent a decoy customer. Caroline is quite popular in Chennai. She has played heroine in movies- `Rain`, `Wadachalam` and others,” said Bhanupratap Barge, Senior Inspector (Crime Branch).

According to Barge, the actress has done modelling assignments for textile and diamond companies in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

Rahul’s politics not aimed at becoming PM

Rae Bareli, February 06: Priyanka Gandhi today said the central focus of her brother Rahul Gandhi’s politics is not to become Prime Minister and the question does not arise at the moment.

Rallies, meeting marks Milad-un Nabi celebrations

Pay salaries for strike period to RTC employees: TRS

Hyderabad, February 06 (INN): Telangana Rashtra Samithi MLA T Harish Rao on Sunday demanded that the State Government pay the salaries of 40-day period to the RTC employees who participated in the Sakala Janula Samme for Telangana.

Harish Rao along with Telangana NMU leader Thomas Reddy made a representation to PCC president and Transport Minister Botsa Satyanarayana at latter’s residence at Banjara Hills in this regard. Later, talking to reporters he asked the government to clear the salaries of strike period to the employees. He said that Botsa has assured to look into the matter.

IAS officers’ protest evokes mixed response

Congress MP Undavalli Arun Kumar slammed the IAS officials for trying to shift the blame on minister for irregularities. Yuvraj Singh Diagnosed With Cancer, Undergoing Chemotherapy In US

New Delhi, February 06: India’s cricket star Yuvraj Singh has been diagnosed with a malignant tumour between his lung and heart and is presently undergoing chemotheraphy in the US, media reports said.

Yuvraj, who left for the US on January 26, had said on Saturday that he will draw inspiration from cycling champion Lance Armstrong to battle his lung tumour. Armstrong, a seven-time Tour de France champion is a cancer survivor.

Iran to launch new generation of satellites into orbit

Tehran, February 06: “The launch of Navid-e Elm-o Sanat satellite into orbit using Safir satellite carrier was not simply an aerospace operation, but stood for creativity, self-reliance and wisdom of Iran’s aerospace engineers,” Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi said Sunday.

The remote-sensing Navid-e Elm-o Sanat observation satellite is designed to take high resolution pictures of the globe and collect data on weather conditions.

Saudi women in drive ban legal bid

Riyadh, February 05: Saudi women leading a campaign against the kingdom’s ban on female driving are calling on the courts to take up their lawsuits demanding the right to drive.

Manal al-Sherif said today that she and other activists are urging judicial authorities to launch proceedings based on complaints they lodged after being refused driving licences.

Al-Sherif said she filed her lawsuit in November and it was transferred to the Interior Ministry.

She was detained for nearly two weeks last year after posting an online video of herself driving. It helped launch wider protests.

Pakistan vows to help peace efforts in Afghanistan

Islamabad, February 05: Pakistan will support every effort to promote reconciliation in Afghanistan, a senior government official said ahead of Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani’s visit to Qatar Monday to discuss peace efforts.

Gilani’s trip comes after the Taliban last month said they planned to set up a political office in Qatar ahead of possible talks with the United States.

Remove Muslims from BC list, demands BC leaders

Hyderabad, February 05: The Backward Classes organisations on Sunday demanded the removal of Laddaf caste of the Muslim community from the BC (B) list.

Addressing a meeting organised by the Chautadha Sri Vaishnavi Sangham at Jubilee Halls, several leaders of Backward Classes demanded that the Laddaf caste of Muslims which has been provided reservation under the BC-B list should be removed.

They said that the Laddaf community could be included in the BC-E list which has been created to give four per cent reservation for Muslims in the State.

Hindu temple built with Muslim help in Bihar

Patna, February 05: In a shining example of communal harmony in India, Muslims have helped build a Hindu temple dedicated to goddess Durga in Bihar’s Gaya district, not just by making donations but also by supervising its construction.

“Muslims have not only donated money for temple construction, they have been involved in it like us,” Suresh Prasad told FacenFacts about the shrine at Loco Colony near the railway station in Gaya town, about 100 km from here.

The temple was opened for prayers and worship last week.

After Salman, Ranbir undergoes surgery

Mumbai, February 05: After Salman Khan, it is now Ranbir Kapoor’s turn to undergo a surgery.

The Bollywood actor reportedly got an operation done in Breach Candy hospital, Mumbai, for a cyst in his back.

Ranbir has been operated for a sebaceous gland problem. The surgery was minor one, reported Mumbai Mirror.

The actor was discharged soon after the surgery and in fact, can apparently resume work whenever he wants.

The cyst that was troubling Ranbir is reportedly not dangerous, but could cause a great deal of discomfort.

New York, February 05: Women lead men when it comes to using phones in toilets, a new study has revealed.

About 76 per cent of women have reported to have used their mobile phone in the toilet. However, men were not far being as 74 per cent had admitted to have used a phone in the toilet.

A recent survey by a US based marketing agency 11mark, revealed that a quarter of all Americans make it a point to go the bathroom accompanied by their mobile phones.

Andhra ministers dare IAS officers to name corrupt

Hyderabad, February 05: A day after IAS officers pointed fingers at them, cabinet ministers in Andhra Pradesh Sunday hit back at top bureaucrats daring them to name the corrupt ministers.

Minister for Rural Development D. Manikya Varaprasad asked Indian Administrative Service officers to make public the names of the ministers they believe are corrupt.

The reaction came a day after the IAS officers’ association said the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) was targeting them, leaving out the ministers responsible for wrong decisions.
