Assam: 676 Militants Surrender

Dispur, January 25: 676 militants from Assam, who have been members of 9 separatist groups, laid down their arms, to return to mainstream life. This has been the biggest surrender ceremony in North East India. The ceremony took place in Guwahati, the main city of Assam. Soon after laying down arms, the ex-militants recounted the gory of violence and harsh life they led in jungles.

Mumbai, January 25: The homes and offices of two of the most bankable Bollywood stars Priyanka Chopra and Katrina Kaif were raided by the income- tax ( I- T) department on Monday.

I- T officials carried out raids at property belonging to both the high- profile actresses and some of their associates for suspected tax evasion on income accruing from advertisements, foreign assignments and guest appearances.

The sleuths also seized 12 private lockers from the raided properties.

UK Man With 12 Sisters Finally Gets His Own Washroom

London, January 25: Charles Lewis, 24, has a staggering 12 sisters and presently he lives at home with none of his dozen female siblings in Dorset.

His sisters range in age from eight to 28, but he has spent most of his waking hours waiting outside the locked bathroom door that he now has his own en suite, reports Daily Mail.

Father Peter, 52, is still at the mercy of his daughters. ‘I can wait half a day for a bathroom,’ he says. ‘I often end up washing in the downstairs loo!’

Missing youth’s dead body found

Hyderabad, January 25 (Siasat News): Rajendranagar police has recovered the dead body of a youth from Himayath Sagar who was missing since last two days.

According to Rajendranagar police one Panduranga Reddy, 25, was an MBA student. He had left his house two days back and did not return.

Inspector Rajendranagar J Ram said that he might have committed suicide due to some personal problems as the motorcycle of the deceased was also found near the lake.

Islamabad, January 25: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on Tuesday held a meeting with Pakistan’s army and intelligence chiefs to discuss the regional security situation and the reconciliation process in Afghanistan, reflecting the easing of tensions between the civilian and the military leadership.

Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar too was present at Gilani’s meeting with army chief Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani and Inter-Services Intelligence head Lt Gen Ahmad Shuja Pasha at the Prime Minister’s House.

Cong’s Role Questionable In Rushdie Episode, Says Jaitley

Pathankot, January 25: Senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley on Tuesday alleged the Salman Rushdie controversy was generated by the Congress to tap Muslim votes in five poll-bound states.

The Congress-led government at the Centre “seems to be playing into the hands of fundamentalist forces and it has created the controversy to gain Muslim votes in the wake of assembly polls in five states,” he told an election rally here.

Jaitley said the Congress had played a “questionable role” in the entire episode.

‘Pani ki Qillat’ remain in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, January 25: Residents of several areas may face severe water crisis in the coming summer as ground water levels have plummeted to alarming levels. Marredpally and its surrounding areas may be the worst hit as water level has sunk as low as 24 metres below ground level (BGL).

According to the ground water department officials, water levels were recorded between 3.60 metres and 24 metres BGL in the city in December 2011. They attribute the grim situation to deficit rainfall and over exploitation of ground water.

Number of elections lined up in Andhra in 2012

Hyderabad, January 25: Andhra Pradesh will witness a series of elections in 2012, out of which, some of them are certain to happen, while some others are still ‘likely’, as things stand now.

9 Qatif rioters arrested

Riyadh, January 25: Nine persons have been arrested in connection with last week’s rioting in Al-Qatif in the Eastern Province, Mansour Al-Turki, spokesman of the Ministry of Interior, said Tuesday.
They were arrested from their hideout in Al-Qatif Monday evening.
Al-Turki said the arrested men were involved in riots and shooting at security forces last week, during which three security officers were injured and several security vehicles damaged. Legal action will be taken against those arrested, he said.

Cops nab man on his wedding day

New Delhi, January 25: A man who was about to get married to his new lady love when he was arrested by the police authorities on charges of rape and fraud.

He was in an intimate relationship with another girl for six years, reports The media.

The girl came to know about the man’s impending nuptials and lodged a complaint at the nearest police station as the man had ditched her despite promising to marry her.

The police arrested the man after a tip-off fom an anonymous source.

SM Krishna moves SC

New Delhi, January 25: External Affairs Minister SM Krishna on Tuesday moved the Supreme Court seeking quashing of private complaint and probe by Lokayukta police against him over alleged illegal mining during his tenure as Karnataka Chief Minister from 1999 to 2004.

The petition by Krishna challenged the January 20 decision of the Karnataka High Court by which his plea for quashing the private complaint and proceedings ordered by the Lokayukta Special Court against him was declined.

JKK, 32-year-old Indian guard is accused of attempting to kill NBA 40 because she broke up with him.

The victim NBA, 40, works for a family who stays in a building in the Al Nahda area and was allowed to stay in a flat on the eighth floor of the same building – with her employer’s relatives.

UK downplays potential Hormuz closure

London, January 25: The UK foreign secretary claims that Iran’s possible closure of the strategic Strait of Hormuz in response to the EU oil embargo against Tehran would be ‘illegal’ and ‘unsuccessful.’

William Hague’s comments were made in response to an urgent question from Conservative MP Robert Halfon in the House of Commons on the question of European Union sanctions imposed on Iran oil exports on Monday.

‘No immediate change in EMIs’

Mumbai, January 25: The Reserve Bank on Tuesday injected Rs 32,000 crore into the system by lowering the Cash Reserve Ratio (CRR) by half-a-percentage point but kept the short-term lending rate unchanged in view of persisting inflationary concerns.

“Based on the current inflation trajectory, including consideration of suppressed inflation, it is premature to begin reducing the policy rate,” RBI Governor D Subbarao said while unveiling the third quarterly monetary policy review.

Jeddah, January 25: Although it not a common scene yet in Saud Arabia, groups of young Saudi women have been sitting together smoking shisha or ‘hubbly bubbly’ (as it is commonly known).

Man HIJACKS Pune Bus, 9 Killed

Pune, January 25: At least nine people were killed, 40 injured and more than two dozen vehicles damaged when a mentally disturbed staffer of the government bus service hijacked a state transport (ST) bus and sped blindly through the streets of this Maharashtra city Wednesday, police said.

“So far, nine pedestrians, including two children, have been killed in the incident and around 40 injured,” an official of Pune police control told IANS. The condition of at least five of the injured, being treated at the Sassoon Hospital, is reported to be serious.

Condition of poor Muslims worse than Dalits: Jaiswal

New Delhi, January 25: Justifying the Congress-led UPA government’s proposed move of providing a sub-quota for minorities, a Union Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal today said that condition of poor Muslims and Buddhists in the county was “worse” than Dalits.Therefore 4.5 per cent quota within quota was necessary,” Jaiswal today said.

The Union minister alleged that corruption in Uttar Pradesh was at its peak and blamed Chief Minister Mayawati for it.
