AP Media to ‘digitize’ Hyderabad

Hyderabad, January 29 (INN): The city-based AP Media will soon launch a unique digitization programme covering Hyderabad. The main aim is to put Hyderabad on to global arena to attract business and investment opportunities.

The aims and objectives of this programme, among others, are to globalize human resources, encourage investments on manpower through innovative methods and reforms while encouraging lifelong learning and to make Hyderabad a global city.

Pakistan’s dynamic instability: Road to real democracy?

ISlamabad, January 29: Pakistan is again going through a crisis. But this time for optimists like me the instability is dynamic. It is dynamic because this kind of struggle between a civilian government and the judiciary can also nudge the country towards a real democracy.

In this case the fight is between a principled chief justice, Iftikhar Chaudhry, who is trying to establish the supremacy of the judiciary in the country, and a corrupt civilian government that came to power, ironically by supporting the independence of the same judiciary.

Rail passenger fares likely to be hiked: Railway Minister

New Delhi, January 29: The Railways appears to have firmed up plans to raise passenger fares in AC classes in face of depleting financial resources and little options available to generate funds.

As pressure is mounting on it from various quarters including the Finance Ministry and the Planning Commission to raise fares untouched for last eight years, the Railway Board is understood to be preparing a blue print for a possible fare hike.

The hike could be anywhere between 10 and 12 percent or Rs 35 for every 500 km, highly placed Railway sources said.

‘US drone attacks result in trust deficit’

Islamabad, January 29: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has once again condemned US drone attacks carried out against his country, calling them illegal and counterproductive.

During a speech in Davos, Switzerland, Gilani announced that the US drone attacks resulted in a “trust deficit” between Islamabad and Washington.

Gita is not religious book, can be taught in schools

Bhopal, January 29: The Madhya Pradesh High Court dismissed a petition challenging the state government decision to introduce the ‘Gita Sar’ (summary of the sacred book) in school curriculum.

The division bench of Justices Ajit Singh and Sanjay Yadav on Friday dismissed the petition filed by Catholic Bishop Council’s spokesperson, Anand Mutangal.

The petitioner had argued that the BJP’s government decision is the violation of Article 28 (1) of the Constitution of India.

He had sought a stay on the state government order to introduce ‘Gita’ summary in schools.

Demand to specify exact Muslim population

Hyderabad, January 29: General Secretary of Minorities Educational, Social and Cultural Organisation of Telangana Mr. Mohammed Nizamuddin demanded the Prime Minister to notify the exact population of the Muslims in India. He said that Ms. Sonia Gandhi’s claim that the Muslims are 13.4% in the country is not true. In the census operations, the population of the Muslims has not been enumerated properly. The staff of census department has been lethargic in registering the correct population of the Muslims in India.

Minister stays the lease of Wakf Building

Hyderabad, January 29: A Wakf property of 400 sq yards at a prime location at Abids was being leased to a private tenant on a meager amount of Rs. 4000 monthly rent and Rs. 15000 non-refundable deposit. When the matter was brought to the notice of the Minister of Wakfs and Minorities Welfare he instructed the officials to take action.

It is learnt that an applicant had offered a rent of Rs. 15000 per month and a non-refundable deposit of Rs. Two lakh but his application was rejected.

Formation of Minorities Commission expedited

Hyderabad, January 29: Under the instructions from the National Minorities Commission, Govt. of A.P. has made all the preparations for constituting Minorities Commission but it is facing difficulties due to the age restriction of 65 years. Govt. intends to appoint a retired Supreme Court judge.

A high retired official is also in the race for this coveted position but the responsibilities of the post warrant legal expertise.

Govt. is actively considering to appoint a retired IAS officer as Chairman and the members will be chosen from Sikh and Parsi communities.

Job oriented soft skills programme

Hyderabad, January 29: Under the auspices of Siasat, a soft skills programme of Personality Development based on Job oriented professions will be conducted on today. It consists of effective communicative skills, skills of sales and marketing, personality development, interview techniques etc.

According to Mirza Jameel Ahmed, Coordinator of the programme, Mr. Shaik Merajul Haque, Soft Skills trainer will impart training on every Sunday from 11 am to 1 pm at Mirza Garden, Function Hall, Golconda Fort.

Sympathetic consideration for 42 days strike assured

Hyderabad, January 29: CM of A.P. Mr. N. Kiran Kumar Reddy assured the delegation of Telangana employees that the Govt. would consider their demand to convert 42 days strike period into leave. Mr. G. Sriniv Yasulu President and Mr. A. Padmachari, General Secretary of the Employees Association met the CM yesterday in Secretariat and made a representation to convert the strike period into leave as per the agreement reached earlier.

The employees who are retiring between October and January will be put to a lot of inconvenience if the matter is not settled.

US to send ‘mothership’ to Middle East

Tehran, January 29: The US military plans to deploy a large floating base, unofficially dubbed the “mothership,” for commando teams to the Middle East amid recent developments in the region.

The Navy is converting an aging warship it had planned to decommission into a makeshift staging base for the commandos in response to requests from the US Central Command, which oversees military operations in the Middle East, The Washington Post reported on Saturday.

Iran finalizes bill to ban EU oil exports

Tehran, January 29: An Iranian lawmaker says the Majlis (parliament) Energy Committee has finalized a draft bill to stop the country’s oil exports to EU member states in reaction to the bloc’s recent decision to ban oil imports from Iran.

Nasser Soudani, deputy chairman of the committee, said on Saturday that the double-urgency bill for halting Iran oil exports to Europe had been finalized in four clauses.

Salman to free 400 prisoners paying Rs.4m

Mumbai, January 29: Bollywood actor Salman Khan has once again proved that he is the good Samaritan of tinsel town with his generous deeds.

Salman Khan’s charitable foundation ‘Being Human’ has offered to free prisoners who are languishing in jail for non-payment of fine.

Salman will help free four hundred inmates in sixty three different prisons in Uttar Pradesh, Indian.

These prisoners are generally those who have served more than their jail term but are still locked up behind bars because they cannot pay their fine due to poverty or some other reason.
