Paladugu dissent on special treatement to PRP

Hyderabad, January 08 (INN): Raising a banner of dissent, Congress MLC Paladugu Venkat Rao has said that seniors in the party would feel insulted if Praja Rajyam legislators were given special treatment after the merger process is complete.

“Resentment would brew in the Congress if senior leaders were not given proper recognition and party posts resulting in heavy damage to the party at ground level,” he told reporters here on Saturday.

Mumbai, January 08: Salman Khan, who has launched many an actress, has now promised “the original item girl” Rakhi Sawant that she would star in one of his films.

Rakhi, who was here to perform during the grand finale of reality show Bigg Boss, said, “I told Salman that he has been launching all actresses, like Katrina Kaif, Zarine Khan, Sneha Ulal….I asked him when he would give me a big break. I was adamant that he give me a chance. He has committed that he will give me an item song in one of his films. Hope Salman fulfils his commitment.”

Mulayam invokes Babri to woo Muslims

Lucknow, January 08: Flaring up passions, the Samajwadi Party (SP) supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav reiterated that Babri Masjid existed in Ayodhya while no Hindu treated the place as a mandir.

Yadav was addressing a gathering of Pasmanda Muslim Samaj (PMS)-an organisation of backward Muslims who had converged at party office to extend support to his outfit in the elections on Saturday.

“Till the court gives its verdict in the case, I will treat it as a masjid. The masjid was demolished but a mandir was not constructed,” said Yadav amidst thunderous applause of Muslims.

China warns US on new military strategy

Beijing, January 08: China’s state media has criticized the United States’ major strategic shift into Asia-Pacific, accusing Washington of being a troublemaker responsible for tensions in the region.

“While boosting its military presence in the Asia-Pacific, the United States should abstain from flexing its muscles, as this won’t help solve regional disputes,” said an editorial published by China’s state-run Xinhua news agency on Friday.

Xinhua warned that any American militarism in the Asia-Pacific region will “endanger peace instead of enhancing regional stability.”

EC Orders Draping Of All Statues Of Maya

Lucknow, January 08: The Chief Election Commissioner S. Y. Qureshi today ordered the draping of all statues of UP chief minister Mayawati and her party BSP’s election symbol ‘elephant’  at public places in Uttar Pradesh, particulary in Noida and Lucknow, where Mayawati had erected special parks for Dalit luminaries, including herself.

Qureshi said, the order will be implemented with immediate effect.

This has been done to provide what he called “a level-playing field” to all stakeholders in the UP assembly elections.

S M Krishna To Visit Israel, Palestine

New Delhi, January 08: External Affairs Minister S M Krishna will undertake a strategically important visit to Israel and Palestine from tomorrow, marking the first such trip to that region by an Indian Foreign Minister in over a decade.

Two pacts—Extradition Treaty and Transfer of Sentenced Persons—are expected to be signed during his visit to Israel, sources said here today.

He will be in Tel Aviv from tomorrow till January 10 to mark the 20th year of establishment of diplomatic relations.

4 Months After Parading Lovers Naked

Udaipur, Rajasthan, January 08: In September last year, villagers of Godli near Udaipur had paraded a married woman and her lover naked in the village and tortured them as police watched the scene, but after a media outcry, 24 persons were rounded up by Udaipur police.

Now, a fresh twist: the same woman has filed a petition in the court alleging she was raped by her lover.

She has also levelled charges of confinement against the lover’s family members.

The court has forwarded the complaint to the police for a fresh probe, says Sudhir Joshi, Additional SP, Udaipur.

Chandigarh, January 07: Upset over being denied a Congress ticket for the Jan 30 state assembly polls, Malwinder Singh, the younger brother of Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh, Saturday quit the party and joined the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal.

Malwinder Singh, who openly opposed the Congress allotting a poll ticket for the Samana assembly seat to Amarinder Singh’s son Raninder Singh, was welcomed into the Akali Dal fold by its president Sukhbir Singh Badal, who is also the deputy chief minister.

Bhanwari Devi case: More items recovered

Jodhpur, January 07 :Forensic teams Saturday recovered some more items from a crater and a canal near here, suspecting to be belonging to missing nurse Bhanwari Devi, sources said. Meanwhile, a local court rejected the anticipatory bail plea of a Congress legislator’s sister, who is absconding and named in the case.

Indra Bishnoi is the sister of Congress legislator from Luni constituency Malkhan Singh Bishnoi, who has been arrested in the case.

Indian-origin cop accused of using database for sex

London: An Indian-origin UK police constable has been accused of using his force’s database to target vulnerable women for sex while on duty.

Police constable Jasbir Singh Dhanda, 52, is accused of misusing the database while he was a serving officer with Derbyshire Police over a seven-year period, The Daily Mail reported.

The officer allegedly had sex with two women while he was working after tracking them down on the police systems.

Dhanda has denied all charges.

Overseas Indian workers to get pension, life insurance

Jaipur, January 07: The Indian government on Saturday launched a special pension and life insurance scheme that would benefit over 5 million unskilled and semi-skilled workers employed overseas mostly in Gulf countries on temporary contract visas.

The government has created a special fund called Pension and Life Insurance Fund which will be used to partly contribute to a pension and insurance cover to the low-paid workers, Overseas Indian Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi said while launching the scheme here.

Woman raped on pretext of job interview

New Delhi, January 07: In two separate incidents, a 21-year-old married woman from east Delhi was raped in Noida by two people on the pretext of a job interview and a teenager was raped by a labourer with whom she had eloped from south Delhi, police said Saturday.

In the first incident, a 21-year-old married woman, resident of Loni Road area in Delhi, was raped Friday by two people on the pretext of providing her a job.

“She was sent to Noida by a placement agency based at Shakarpur in east Delhi,” said a police official.

Bangladeshi arrested for illegal stay

Hyderabad, January 07: A Bangladeshi national was arrested in Humayunagar on Saturday on the charge of illegally staying in India with the help of fake documents.

Commissioner’s Taskforce (South Zone) nabbed Zahidul Islam, a native of Chittagong, Bangladesh, who had changed his name to Syed Abu Nasir, said Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, S Chaturvedi.

Zahidul came to Kolkata in 2004 on a visit visa and later proceeded to Uttar Pradesh and tried to get admission into a Madarasa. But he failed, and went to Mumbai.

Balakrishna to contest assembly elections

Vijayawada, Januray 07: Cine actor Nandamuri Balakrishna has announced that he would contest the next assembly elections in the State.

Talking to reporters here on Saturday, Balakrishna said that he would join the electoral politics in the next assembly elections. However, he did not specify the district or the constituency from where he plans to contest. He said that the decision on his constituency would be taken by the party leadership.

Balakrishna also said that he do not possess any individual opinion on separate Telangana and he would abide by the party’s stand on the issue.
