Veteran actor Dev Anand passes away at 88

Mumbai,December 04:Dev Anand, the ‘Evergreen Romantic Superstar’ of Indian cinema, has passed away in London on Saturday night following cardiac arrest. He was 88.

Dev Anand, who had come to London for medical check up, was not keeping well for the last few days, family sources said. Dev Anand made his debut as an actor in 1946 in Hum Ek Hain. By the time his Ziddi was released in 1947 he was a superstar and has never looked back.

Police violated Supreme Court guidelines on arrest

New Delhi,December 04:Relatives of Gauhar Aziz Khomany, who has been arrested by the Delhi Police Special Cell for having alleged links with terror outfit Indian Mujahideen, have approached the National Human Rights Commission and the National Commission for Minorities seeking intervention and accusing the police of not having adhered to the Supreme Court guidelines on making arrests.

GHMC Mayor to vacate seat for MIM

Andrew Symonds In Bigg Boss 5

Mumbai, December 04: Australian all-rounder Andrew Symonds will take part in Bigg Boss 5 , Times of India reported.

The mercurial cricketer is expected to enter the house sometime next week, the report said.

This makes him the second international contestant after Sunny Leone to participate in the reality show, and the second cricketer after Vinod Kambli to enter the house.

Symonds made news off the field after he accused Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh of making racial slurs at him.

His son Sunil was with him when he breathed last. Dev Anand made his debut as an actor in 1946 in “Hum Ek Hain”.

By the time his “Ziddi” was released in 1947 he was a superstar and has never looked back.

Speaker gives nod for No Trust Motion discussion

Hyderabad, December 04: Assembly Speaker Nadendla Manohar on Saturday agreed to take up discussion on the No Confidence Motion moved by Telugu Desam Party against the government. The decision was taken after Opposition Leader N Chandrababu Naidu moved the motion in the House and was supported by 76 members belonging to the TDP, TRS, CPI, BJP and CPM.

However, the decision was preceded by uproarious scenes and din for third consecutive day leading to adjournment of House twice. Later, the Speaker called for the meeting of floor leaders to end the impasse.

New Delhi, December 04: Bollywood actor Vidya Balan believes that she is on par with Emraan Hashmi as far as serial kissing on celluloid is concerned.

Replying to questions in Rajat Sharma’s Aap Ki Adalat show on India TV, Vidya Balan said: “Let’s say, we are on par, na woh aagey, na main aagey (neither he is ahead, nor me). Nowadays women can equal men in all spheres.”

Balan however denied reports which had quoted her as saying that locking lips with Emraan was fun.

Bomb attack, attempt on my life: Maliki

Baghdad, December 04: Iraq’s Prime Minister says the recent bomb attack near the country’s parliament in Baghdad was a failed assassination attempt against him.

“The preliminary intelligence information says that the car was due to enter parliament [on Monday] and stay there and not to explode. It was supposed to explode on the day I entered parliament,” AP quoted Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki as saying on Saturday.

However, the prime minister was not in or near the building at the time of the explosion.

WiFi May Damage Sperm

Mumbai,December 04 :Extended use of laptop by placing it on the lap can damage male sperms, according to a new study published in the Journal of Fertility and Sterility.

For the study, scientists from US and Argentina exposed sperms taken from 29 men to the electromagnetic radiation (that came from the laptop) for four hours. Results revealed that after four hour of exposure, the sperm decreased its motility and deveoloped DNA damage.

US Church bans Interracial couples ?

KENTUCKY,DECEMBER 04 :A US church has been plunged into a racism row after it banned interracial couples from joining its congregation. Members at Gulnare Free Will Baptist Church, in Kentucky, have voted to prevent interracial couples from becoming members or taking part in any services other than funerals.

The ban has opened a war of words between worshippers in the Pike County community and provoked accusations of discrimination. It was imposed after Stella Harville, the church secretary’s daughter, attended a service with her black fiance Ticha Chikuni.

Man dies in train accident

Hyderabad, December 3: According to Railway police Kachiguda 42 year old Mohammad Mastan died in a train accident occurred near Osmania University. Mastan was the resident of Indiranagar, Alwal.

The victim was trying to cross the railway track when the accident occurred and he died on the spot.

Railway police has registered a case and investigations are on.

DD to air another Urdu news bulletin

Hyderabad, December 3: Director General (news and current affairs) Doordarshan news head quarters New Delhi has granted permission to regional news unit (RNU) of Doordarshan Kendra Hyderabad to start another Urdu bulletin of 5 minutes duration.

Hence the new Urdu bulletin will be telecast daily from 1:10 to 1:15 pm daily at DD Saptagiri channel from Saturday December 10.

Jeddah, December 03: A court has given a man accused of being a serial child rapist one week to respond to a list of charges against him. The man who is alleged to have raped a number of young girls denied all charges against him before the Jeddah court on Wednesday.

Tawaf Area expansion when pilgrims return home

Makkah, December 03: The General Presidency for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque will play a key role in the committee supervising the Tawaf Area (Mataaf) expansion project.

The project will increase the capacity of the Tawaf Area from the current 50,000 pilgrims per hour to 130,000 per hour. The Presidency will cooperate with construction companies to ensure the continuity of Tawaf and that there is enough space for worshippers to pray in safety.
