The Page 3 director recently revealed that the Kapoor lass broke down at the end of a particularly emotional sequence, overwhelmed by the scene’s sheer intensity.

Heroine is a fictional account of the life of a successful actress in Bollywood, and follows the trials and travails faced by her in the journey to success and after.

The depth and complexity of the film’s story were what first drew Kareena to the project.

Bonn conference stresses on rebuilding Afghan

Bonn, December 05: Delegates from over 100 countries and international organisations, gathered in Germany’s Bonn city Monday, were focusing their energies at an international conference on drawing up a roadmap for the war-torn Afghanistan’s future.

Ten years ago, a similar major conference on Afghanistan was held in the same city, which reshaped the Afghan political framework after the western military forces toppled Taliban regime and Hamid Karzai became the transitional leader of the country and then won the election to become president.

Farooq favours re-opening of cinemas, liquor shops

Srinagar, December 06: Jammu and Kashmir’s National Conference (NC) president and union New and Renewable Energy Minister Farooq Abdullah Monday said the cinema halls and liquor shops should re-open in the valley to give a fillip to tourism industry in the state.

He was speaking at a function to mark the birth anniversary of the NC founder and former chief minister, Sheikh Abdullah, here.

“What is wrong with cinemas when we watch movies on the television at home?” Farooq Abdullah said.

Special police stations to tackle power, water theft

Chandigarh, December 06: Stealing power or water in Haryana will not be easy for offenders now.

The Haryana government Monday announced that seven police stations have been set up in the state to deal exclusively with cases of irrigation and power departments.

An official spokesman said that the police stations had been set up at Ambala, Karnal, Rohtak, Jind, Rewari, Gurgaon and Faridabad.

These police stations will deal only with cases of power and irrigation departments.

Iran says no to foreign military in Afghan after 2014

Bonn, December 06: Iran does not want any form of foreign military on the soil of its neighbour Afghanistan after the scheduled pullout in 2014, Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi has said.

“Certain Western countries seek to extend their military presence in Afghanistan beyond 2014 by maintaining their military bases there. We deem such an approach contradictory to the efforts toward sustaining stability and security in Afghanistan,” Xinhua quoted Salehi as saying at the ongoing international conference on Afghanistan in Bonn.

Kiran defeats No Confidence Motion by 38 votes

Hyderabad, December 06: The Kiran Kumar Reddy Government has survived the No Confidence Motion moved by the Telugu Desam Party.

After marathon discussions of 15 hours and 55 minutes the No Confidence Motion was defeated by 38 votes. While 160 members voted against the motion, 122 MLAs voted in its favour.

After several rounds of discussion, allegations, counter-allegations, passing of remarks and protests, the voting took place at 1 am on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.

Vijayamma targets Cong in her maiden assembly speech

Hyderabad, December 06: Pulivendula MLA YS Vijayamma on Monday accused the Congress of targeting the family of an individual who brought the party to power in the State.

In her maiden speech, Vijayamma recalled that her late husband YS Rajasekhara Reddy struggled a lot to bring the Congress party to power. “It is highly painful to vote against the government which was originally formed by YSR,” she said while supporting the No Confidence Motion. She said that her party was forced to take the “tough decision” as the State Government has ignored all the schemes started by YSR.

Hyderabad, December 06: The Telugu Desam Party MLAs on Monday requested Assembly Speaker Nadendla Manohar for division of the vote on the No Trust Motion.

In a letter submitted to Assembly speaker, the MLAs asked him for ‘division of vote’ instead of a ‘voice vote’. While the Speaker can carry or reject a motion by just hearing ‘Ayes’ or ‘Noes’ from the members under the ‘voice vote’, under the ‘Division’, a headcount would be done to see who was in favour or against the motion.

Afghanistan blast kills five civilians

Kabul, December 06: The incident happened in the Choray district of southern Uruzgan Province, 370 kilometers south of the Afghan capital Kabul, on Monday, said Farid Ayal, provincial police spokesma, dpa reported.

“Four children and a woman were killed and six more people including two children, a woman and three men were wounded in the explosion,” he added.

The official blamed Taliban militants for the incident.

The security situation remains fragile in Afghanistan, despite the presence of nearly 150,000 US-led foreign forces.

Named Malegaon accused under ATS torture: witness

Mumbai, December 06: A key witness in the 2006 Malegaon bomb blasts, whose statements accused three men from the textile town and two Pakistani nationals of involvement in the conspiracy, has informed the National Investigation Agency that he was tortured and forced to make those allegations.

Besides the confessions of seven of the nine men who were arrested in the case and given bail last month, the only other statement that talked about the role of Pakistani nationals was made by this witness, sources told The Indian Express. The NIA is verifying his claims.

NSG regional hub inaugurated in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, December 05: Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram Monday inaugurated a regional hub of the elite anti-terror National Security Guard (NSG) here.

The hub has come up at a cost of Rs.37.96 crore on 22 acres of land at Tirmulghery in Secunderabad, Hyderabad’s twin city.

Speaking on the occasion, Chidambaram said the NSG were being provided modern weapons and the world-class training to thwart terrorist attacks and hijacking of airplanes.
