52 dead, 130 injured in triple Afghanistan bombings

Kabul, December 06:Fiftytwo people were killed and at least 130 injured in massive blasts that tore through Kabul, Kandahar and Mazar-e-Sharif in Afghanistan Tuesday, a day after the Bonn conference that focussed on the strife-ridden nation’s future.

The deafening blasts took place as foreign ministers from the across the world Monday discussed the future of Afghanistan. The Taliban did not participate in the Bonn conference, which was also boycotted by Pakistan following a NATO airstrike Nov 26 that killed two dozen Pakistani soldiers.

Two city cops held for Raping minor

Hyderabad, December 06:Three persons, including two police constables, were arrested for raping a minor girl.

According to the information, the Gopalapuram police in Secunderabad
have arrested two constables, Prabhakar and Siddulu, attached to the
Tukaram Gate police station in this connection.

Besides the duo,police nabbed one Jahangir also in the case.

3 killed, 19 injured in boiler explosion

Karur, December 06: Three people were killed and 19 others, some of them seriously, were injured in an boiler explosion that took place at a private dyeing unit at suburb Chellandipalayam here today. Police said block in the steam tube might be the reason behind the explosion. The deceased were identified as Gandhi (45) and Bhaskaran (49), both from Karur, and Ramdeep (26) of Bihar. All the injured were admitted to Government Hospital here. Later, six of them were referred to a private hospital in Coimbatore. Police are investigating.

54 Afghans killed in Ashura bomb blasts

Kabul, December 06: At least 54 Afghans have lost their lives in two separate explosions in Afghanistan’s Kabul and Mazar-i-Sharif as Shia Muslims were commemorating the martyrdom of the third Shia Imam, Imam Hussein (PBUH.

On Tuesday, a bomb went off in the centre of Kabul, where Shias had gathered to commemorate the day of Ashura and the martyrdom of Imam Hussein, AFP reported.

At least 48 people, including children, were killed and more than 150 others wounded in the bloody attack.

Paswan wants reservation for minorities in Lokpal

New Delhi, December 06: LJP chief Ram Vilas Paswan on Tuesday demanded reservation for backward classes, minorities and women in the proposed Lokpal.

He said the party wants 50 per cent reservation for people belonging to these section in the Lokpal so as to ensure that all sections of the society are adequately represented in the anti-graft body.

“We want reservation in Lokpal. People belonging to minority and under-privileged sections should have an opportunity to be in anti-corruption body,” he told a public rally here.

Karat wants retail FDI decision to be scrapped

New Delhi, December 06: Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) general secretary Prakash Karat Tuesday demanded that the government scrap its decision to allow Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in retail trade.

“The government intends to put FDI in retail on hold till the winter session of parliament. But, we want its (FDI) cancellation and the rescinding of the decision,” he told reporters here.

Karat alleged that the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) II government permitted the FDI in retail as it had given a commitment to the US.

Pawar slap reaction: Hazare admits he ‘committed violence’

Ralegan-Siddhi, December 06: Anna Hazare Tuesday admitted that he had “committed violence” when he asked why a man slapped Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar only once in New Delhi recently.

“But for the betterment of society, I do not consider this violence as wrong. Many politicians felt very bad about the slapping incident, many of them got very angry also,” Hazare said in a post on his blog.

He said people held the person who asked the question (Hazare) more guilty than the man, Harvinder Singh, who had actually slapped Pawar.

Gorkha dies suspiciously in Alwal

Hyderabad, December 6: A Gorkha died suspiciously in Alwal area at the city outskirts. It is said that 32 year old Gopi Chand son of Padmar Bahadur used to work as a gorkha.

In the night of 3rd and 4th December he was roaming in Sridevi Nagar Kalyani Estate colony in mysterious state. Suddenly a noise was heard. Another Gorkha, Raju resides at a little distance, hearing the noise he came out of the house and saw that Gopi was lying down in injured condition.

He was rushed to the hospital where he died while undergoing treatment.

Woman died in road accident at Uppal

Financial crisis drives youth to commit suicide

Hyderabad, December 6: A youth committed suicide owing to financial troubles. According to police 19 year old B Sateesh, resident of Saroornagar who was a driver by occupation was worried due to financial problems for quite sometime.

Lunar eclipse on Saturday Dec. 10

Hyderabad, December 6: According to Arvind Paranjpye, in-charge, Public Outreach Programme at Pune-based Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics the last lunar eclipse of the year will occur on December 10 and it will be visible in nearly half the world, including India.

Contrary to the eclipse occurred on June 15, this lunar eclipse may not be as dark as it was. However it would provide an opportunity to the viewers to watch it in winter night.

It would remain for nearly 4 hours and 57 minutes. The maximum eclipse will occur at 8.27 pm and 16 seconds.

Jeddah, December 06: Men who harass women in public will be fined and publicly defamed under a new law being drafted by the Shoura Council. The action is due to huge public demand to end the phenomenon that humiliates women and even leads to traffic jams.

Shoura Council member Zain Al-Abideen Bin Barri urged “the council to follow the suit of countries like Kuwait and the UAE where similar laws have successfully deterred the unwelcome advances,” Al-Sharq Al-Awsat reported.
