Hyderabad, December 07: The seven vacancies in the 294-member state assembly and 17 members facing disqualification for defying the party whip, the by-elections would decide the course and trend of the next general election due in 2014.

Though YSR Congress camp made some provocative speeches that it will dethrone the Kiran Kumar Reddy Government if a no confidence motion is tabled, things did not go the way to the liking of Kadapa MP, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Maoists blow up bridge on key national highway

Raipur, December 07: Maoist militants on Tuesday blew a bridge on a key national highway in Chhattisgarh that connects the state’s violence-hit Bastar region to the state capital, police said.

The bridge is at Kondagaon on National Highway Number 30 in Bastar district, some 210 km south of Raipur.

“It was a massive blast that ripped through the bridge. The traffic on the key national highway, Number 30, was blocked for hours after the blast but was resumed later,” Bastar’s Superintendent of Police Ratanlal Dangi told IANS.

Malik Thanks Taliban; Is Grateful To Them

Islamabad, December 07: Interior Minister Rehman Malik caused consternation today by thanking the Taliban for maintaining peace during Muharram, for which authorities had deployed tens of thousands of security personnel across Pakistan to prevent any sectarian attacks.

“I had appealed to the Taliban that they should respect the Muharram. I am grateful to them that they respected the Muharram this time. This is a good thing”, Malik said while speaking to reporters in Islamabad this evening.

Two held for bid to rape woman in moving car

Ghaziabad, December 06: Two men who kidnapped a sales executive and tried to rape her in a moving car were arrested in Ghaziabad, police said Tuesday.

Annu Verma and Anil Nagar are residents of Shalimar Garden neighbourhood where the woman worked. They were held Tuesday, police said.

The incident occurred Monday evening in Shalimar Garden at 6.30 p.m. when the woman was coming out of her office.

The two dragged her into a car and molested her in the moving vehicle. The woman while resisting their rape attempt shouted for help, police said.

Hyderabad, December 06: When his father YS Rajasekhara Reddy, the then Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, died in a helicopter crash in 2009, Kadapa MP YS Jaganmohan Reddy was backed by 150 out of 155 Congress MLAs in the state Assembly for the Chief Minister’s post.

Draft mining policy to help in faster clearances

Hyderabad, December 06: India’s new draft mining policy is ready to ensure that the local communities are also benefited from the activity, a top official said Tuesday.

G. Srinivas, joint secretary in the union mines ministry, said the new policy would also help in getting faster clearances for mining.

Driver held for stealing Rs.10 lakh

New Delhi, December 06: A 27-year-old driver has been caught here for stealing Rs.10 lakh from his Gurgaon-based employer, police said Tuesday.

On Nov 29, Dheeraj Pahwa, a real estate agent, asked his driver Shiv Shankar and another aide, Bhagwan Singh, to collect some payment from a client, a police officer said.

“On their way back, Shiv Shankar duped Singh and fled with the money, leaving the Innova car behind. When he could not be contacted, an FIR was registered and police started investigation,” the officer added.

Boy raped and kidnapped in Kuwait

Kuwait, December 06: A 10-year-old Egyptian boy was playing near his house in Kuwait when an unknown man asked if he can join him.

The boy accepted the man’s offer and the game later developed into a chase to a deserted area. The boy then wanted to return home but the man grabbed him.

“The man raped the boy and fled…the boy rushed to his mother and told her…she reported the man to the police who are still looking for the rapist,” the Kuwaiti Arabic language daily Alwatan said.

First copy of Sachin’s life story fetches Rs. 1.75 Cr

Mumbai, December 06: A bid was made for Rs. 1.75 crores for the first copy of a book on the life story of legendary Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar. It is the first time that a book on cricket fetched so much amount. There was already a bid of Rs. 1.25 crores for the 700 page book weighing 37 kgs. Now another person had bid for the book at Rs. 1.75 crores. Carl Foler, CEO of the Opus Media Group which prepared this book, has given this information.

Girl gets a year in jail, 100 lashes for adultery

Jeddah, December 06: A 23-year-old unmarried woman was awarded one-year prison term and 100 lashes for committing adultery and trying to abort the resultant fetus.

The District Court in Jeddah pronounced the verdict on Saturday after the girl confessed that she had a forced sexual intercourse with a man who had offered her a ride. The man, the girl confessed, took her to a rest house, east of Jeddah, where he and four of friends assaulted her all night long.

Husband sells wife kidney for Dh6,000

Dubai, December 06: An unemployed Egyptian identified as Khaled. L has been arrested and charged with stealing his wife’s kidney.

In a plot straight out of a movie, the police in Cairo, Egypt, received a tip off from the family of the victim that man stole a kidney.

According to the report in Egyptian newspaper ‘Al Youm Al Sabea’a’, the wife told the police that her husband drugged her juice and when she felt sick, told her he was taking her to hospital.

At the clinic he took her to, she was sedated under the pretext of treatment and her kidney was removed.

Lokpal draft would satisfy everyone: Singhvi

New Delhi, December 06: Abhishek Manu Singhvi, the chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee looking into the Lokpal Bill, on Tuesday said there was no delay in the panel’s report and that it would be submitted soon.

The panel was initially scheduled to submit its final report by December 7 but it had sought some more time to finalise the report.

Sources said the report would be submitted in Parliament by December 9.

Himachal Congress chief injured in accident

Shimla, December 06: Himachal Pradesh’s Congress chief Kaul Singh was seriously injured when his vehicle skidded off the road and fell into a gorge on the outskirts of this state capital, police said Tuesday.

Singh suffered spine and head injuries. Doctors treating him said his condition was stable.

Superintendent of Police Sonal Agnihotri told IANS that the accident occurred Monday night near Totu when Singh, who was at the wheel, failed to negotiate a curve.

Passers-by immediately rushed him to the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMCH).
