Decomposed body of woman found

New Delhi, December 10: The decomposed body of a 24-year-old woman was found in a house in the capital, police said Friday.

The body was detected Thursday morning in Delhi’s Vijay Vihar when some locals informed police about foul smell coming from a house.

“The door of the house was broken open and the body was found. It was sent to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital for post-mortem,” said a police officer.

The deceased was identified as Puja.

Salman Rushdie proposes to ex-girlfriend

New York, December 10: Just months after parting ways with girlfriend Michelle Barish, reports suggest that author Salman Rushdie has proposed her.

The novelist had parted ways with Barish in March. But he was so keen to have her back that he asked her to marry him just two days after she broke up with her latest boyfriend, billionaire Steve Tisch, in November.

“Salman is besotted. He asked her within 48 hours of her break-up to marry him. He even has a ring,” nypost.com quoted a source as saying.

7 workers injured in factory accident

Ghaziabad, December 09: Seven workers were injured when a slab of an under-construction factory warehouse collapsed in Ghaziabad Friday, police said.

The accident occurred in Kavi Nagar Industrial Area, where the warehouse was being built by two factory owners for joint use.

The injured workers were taken to the local Shankar Lal Hospital. Two were discharged after the first aid while the others are being treated.

‘We are examining the case. If the owners are found guilty of any violation, they will be booked,’ said Circle Officer-II Praveen Ranjan Singh.

Pranab expresses condolence to AMRI victims

Kolkata, December 09: Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee Friday visited the SSKM Hospital where the autopsy of those killed in the AMRI Hospital fire was being done and expressed his shock and grief over the tragedy which has so far claimed 90 lives.

Mosque attack kills six in Afghanistan

A bomb attack in northeastern Afghanistan has killed at least six people, including a police chief, an intelligence officer and two other security officials.

The powerful explosion targeted a mosque in the Ghaziabad district of Kunar Province as worshippers were leaving after Friday Prayers.

Eight people were also wounded in the bomb blast.

Taliban militants claimed responsibility for the Friday attack.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said the bomb had been planted at the venue and was aimed at targeting government officials.

86 Saudi women with HIV marry; 79 deliver healthy babies: Charity

Jeddah, December 09: The chairperson of the Saudi Charitable Society for AIDS Patients has announced that it has succeeded in tying the knot for 86 women suffering from AIDS in the last five years.

Dr. Sana Mustafa Felmban said: “All these married women have a medical record at the Ministry of Health and are subjected to regular checkups throughout the pregnancy period. Of these 79 women gave birth to healthy babies.”

Drunk teen eaten alive by Fish

Lepaz, December 09: A teenage swimmer has been eaten alive by piranhas after he leaped into a Bolivian river infested with the fish.

The unnamed 18-year-old boy was drunk when he jumped out of a canoe in the town of Rosario del Yata, 400 miles north of the capital of La Paz.

Guayaramerin police officer Daniel Cayaya said the teen bled to death after the attack, which happened last Thursday. The incident emerged yesterday when it was reported by Erbol, a local radio station.

New Delhi, December 09: Hackers broke into the Congress’ official website and replaced part of Sonia Gandhi’s profile with some objectionable material in a cyber attack coinciding with the party chief’s birthday.

“The hackers could penetrate deep inside the website and changed one paragraph,” AICC Computer Department chief Vishwajeet Prithvijeet Singh said.

Singh said that Congress websites — aicc.org.in, congress.org.in — were subjected to the attack prompting the party to “put them down” this morning.

Hazare to visit Chennai on December 18

Chennai, December 09: Social activist Anna Hazare and his team would visit the city next week as part of stepping up their demand for a stronger Lokpal.

CPI demands judicial inquiry into Kolkata Fire tragedy

Kolkata, December 09: The CPI on Friday demanded a judicial probe into the massive fire in Kolkata hospital in which 70 people were killed.

Pointing out that private hospitals and nursing homes are “mushrooming everywhere in the country”, he said patients are being charged at a very high exorbitant rate in such facilities and there are “serious loopholes in the maintenance.”

“They are only for profit. Greed for profit. It is an example of greed for profit of the corporate sector in the healthcare and government also is pampering it all over the country,” Dasgupta said.

Iran airs footage of downed US drone

Tehran, December 09: On Sunday December 4, the Iranian Army’s electronic warfare unit downed with minimum damage the US RQ-170 Sentinel stealth aircraft which was flying over the Iranian city of Kashmar, some 140 miles (225km) from the Afghan border.

The aircraft had crossed into Iran’s airspace over the border with neighboring Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, Iran has announced that it intends to carry out reverse engineering on the captured RQ-170 Sentinel stealth aircraft, which is also known as the Beast of Kandahar, and is similar in design to a US Air Force B-2 stealth bomber.

Israeli airstrikes kill 3, hurt 15 Gazans

Gaza, December 09: Israeli warplanes launched several airstrikes which left 15 people including seven children injured.

Two of the wounded children are in critical condition, hospital officials said.

The air raids follow another Israeli attack in Gaza on Wednesday, which left two Palestinians dead.

The Israeli military frequently also uses the assassination drones to launch attacks or to detect targets for Israeli F16 jets and Apache helicopters.

Gaza Strip remains under an Israeli blockade as international calls for the lifting of the siege falls on deaf ears in Tel Aviv.
