Lokpal Bill to be passed in Budget Session: Govt

New Delhi, December 30: The UPA government squarely blamed the BJP for the failure to get the Lokpal Bill passed in the Parliament.

Addressing a press conference on Friday, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan kumar Bansal said that the government had wanted to table the debate in the Rajya Sabha on December 28 but the BJP didn’t agree to it.

“The minister was replying to the debate, suddenly a ruckus was created at 11.30 pm, leading to the adjournment till 11.45 pm. The house had to be adjourned at 12 midnight,” he said clarifying the government’s stand.

US, Saudi Arabia reach $29.4 bn agreement on F-15

Washington, December 30: In one of their biggest armsdeal, the US and Saudi Arabia on Friday inked an agreement worthUSD 29.4 billion for sale of 80 new F-15SA combat jets andmodernisation of another 70, the White House announced amid heightened tension with Iran in the region.

“Valued at USD 29.4 billion, this agreement includesproduction of 84 new aircraft and the modernisation of 70existing aircraft as well as munitions, spare parts, training,maintenance and logistics,” White House Deputy PressSecretary, Josh Earnest, said in a statement.

Fearing trap of anti-narcotics cell, the drug peddlers have discovered novel way to transport the drugs into the New Year bashes across the city.

The fool-proof plan of one of the drug peddlers was unearthed by a Jaipur-based model turned item girl Rozlyn Khan who has registered a complaint with the Mumbai Police for the same.

Pakistan to stop graft money use in elections

Islamabad, December 30 (IANS) Pakistan will put a stop to the use of ill-gotten money in elections and set up a political finance wing to look into it.

The Election Commission will put in place a system to prevent the use of ‘ill-gotten’ money in polls and scrutinise the statements and declarations of the contesting candidates and elected representatives, said Dawn.

The Auditor General of Pakistan Revenues and the Federal Bureau of Revenue will establish a political finance wing soon to streamline political finance, an official said.

PM should quit over defeat on Lokpal bill: Gadkari

New Delhi, December 30 (IANS) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should step down and assume moral responsibility for the government’s defeat in parliament on the Lokpal bill, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Nitin Gadkari said Friday.

Calling it “unfortunate” and an “insult to parliament”, the BJP president accused the government of running away from voting on the Lokpal bill in the Rajya Sabha.

US military to have fewer generals and admirals

Washington, December 30 (IANS/EFE) The US armed forces have begun thinning the ranks of generals and admirals with the aim of bringing the number of senior officers back down to the level of before the Sep 11, 2001, terror attacks, The Washington Post said.

Islamabad, December 30 (IANS) Lives of two Mughal princes, Dara Shikoh and his younger brother Aurangzeb, sons of emperor Shah Jahan, have been distorted by historians, a Pakistani-American scholar has said.

Munis Faruqui, assistant professor at the South and Southeast Asian Studies Department of the University of California, Berkeley, has presented a unique side to the brothers, in a discourse titled “New perspectives on the Mughals: The case of Dara Shikoh”.

Hyderabad in race to host ICANN Conference in 2013

Hyderabad, December 30: Hyderabad, the emerging hub of the IT industry in India, is in the race to host the Internet Corporation for Assigned Name and Numbers (ICANN) Conference to be held in the Asia-Pacific region in 2013, a senior state IT official said here today.

ICANN is a not-for-profit organisation responsible for managing Domain Name Systems to protect the uniqueness of web addresses. Besides overseeing the distribution of unique internet protocol addresses and domain names, the organisation works to ensure each domain name is mapped to the correct IP address.

Innocent suffers punishment for no crime, being away from his father for so long

Hyderabad, December 30: Innocent son of Mohammad Abdul Qadeer can be seen holding his father’s photograph in his hand.

Abdul Qadeer had been sentenced life imprisonment on the charges of murder of a police official. The incident occurred on December 12, 1990.

Despite the fact that he has completed 21 years imprisonment he is not released yet which is the violation of constitution. He has been released on parole only for 82 days during 21 years of his imprisonment.

1 dead in fire in residential building

Mumbai, December 30: At least one person has died in a fire that broke out in a residential building near JJ Hospital in Nagpada in Mumbai. The fire was detected at around 8:45 PM on Thursday evening.

The dead person has been identified as 50-year-old Bashir Ahmed. There are no other casualties. Eight fire engines were sent to douse the fire and they managed to extinguish it at around 10 PM. The cause of the fire is not yet known.

Maoist posters against Nitish Kumar

Aurangabad, December 30: Ahead of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s scheduled Seva Yatra on Thursday, outlawed Maoists pasted posters in schools and government buildings asking the people to boycott his programmes in Aurangabad district.

The posters appeared in schools, community centres and government buildings under town police station late last night, police said.

Earlier Maoists had burnt pressure rollers of a private construction firm engaged in road construction at Parta village in the district on December 26.

Rahul’s five-day UP election tour ends today

New Delhi, December 30: After attacking the ruling BSP government in Uttar Pradesh and targeting the opposition BJP in the past few days, Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi will on Friday hold a rally in Saharanpur.

Saharanpur rally will mark the end of Rahul Gandhi’s five-day election tour of Uttar Pradesh, where Assembly Elections will be held between February 4 to 28.

Heavy rain likely in coastal Andhra

Hyderabad, December 30: Scattered rain will occur in Nellore and Prakasham districts of coastal Andhra in the next 48 hours.

‘Meanwhile heavy rain is likely in Chittoor and Kadapa districts’ said Director Metrological department G Sudhakar Rao.

He further said skies will remain partially cloudy in the twin cities on December 30 and 31 and the maximum and minimum temperatures of Hyderabad and Secunderabad will be 13 and 31 degree and 14 and 30 degree Celsius respectively.

Digvijay sends Anna Hazare to Yamraj

New Delhi, December 30: Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh who has been very vocal in opposing Anna Hazare and his team took a fresh dig at him on Friday, a day after the Lokpal Bill got stalled in the Rajya Sabha.

Digvijay wrote on Twitter: “Yamraj to Yamdut: jao ANNA ko le aao. Yamdut: Maharaj apne yahan sab theek hai Unko lane se ‘PARLOKPAL BILL’ ka andolan chalu ho jayega…”

The former Madhya Pradesh CM also backed the UPA for ‘trying its best’ to pass the Lokpal Bill in the Parliament.

Minorities have benefited after Sachar Committee report, says PM

New Delhi, December 30: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday flagged his government’s achievements in protecting and advancing the rights and interests of Dalits, minorities and other marginalised sections. He cited, among other things, a slew of pro-minorities schemes launched in the wake of the Rajinder Sachar Committee’s report.

Dr. Singh made a special mention of the recently-announced sub-quota of 4.5 per cent for minorities within the 27 per cent OBC reservation, saying he was happy that his government had gone ahead with this decision.

Every 23 Britons chase one job

London, December 30: A new report has warned that there is only one job opportunity for every 23 people in Britain, where the economy is ‘heading inexorably towards recession’.

The report, by the recruitment website Totaljobs.com, has said that the British are engaged in an intense fight for employment, with the private sector failing to hire redundant State workers in sufficient numbers.

It said that almost 4 million people are looking for jobs and the jobs that draw the attention of most applicants are the ones, which require no professional skills.

Unauthorized structures demolished at Moosi River

Hyderabad, December 30: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation yesterday demolished unauthorized structures at Moosi River.

Talking to Siasat correspondent chief city planner GHMC Mr. Raghu told that Moosi River area was illegally occupied and after the cases were resolved by the court GHMC officials removed illegal occupation.

A total of 30 huts and 12 big godowns have been removed in the area.

Minorities Scholarship amount release likely

Hyderabad, December 30: (Siasat News) According to a statement issued by A.P. State Minorities Finance Corporation, Govt. of A.P. is likely to release the amounts pertaining to scholarships and fees reimbursement very soon.

It has been noticed that the principals of schools and colleges have not yet submitted the statements pertaining to 2010-2011.

M.D. of Finance Corporation has issued a circular to submit the same as early as possible because the payment of scholarships and fees reimbursement depends on these statement.
