Mumbai, December 02: One has often heard of couples indulging in acts of affection being rebuked by police officials for misbehaving.

However, the tables were turned when a deputy commissioner closed in on a police jeep only to find that a
constable was with a bar girl inside the jeep with a businessman.

The incident occurred on Wednesday night when Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone III) Kishore Jadhav was on night duty and found a parked white police jeep standing at the corner of LG Road around 2 am near Sena Bhavan.

Hyderabad, December 02: A subregistrar at V.Madugula in Visakhapatnam district and his private assistant were caught taking bribe.

According to an ACB press release, the subregistrar, N Raghu, was caught in his office when he took `6,000 as bribe from SV Parameswara Rao of Thimmarajupeta village for delivering two registered documents in respect of an agricultural land purchased by the latter and his friend. The bribe amount was taken by Raghu’s private assistant, P Jagannatham, and both were caught by the ACB sleuths.

Washington, December 02: A gene known as the 14-3-3s plays a critical role in halting breast cancer initiation and progression, a new study has found.

The discovery of this new target by William J Muller and his team from McGill University’s Goodman Cancer Research Centre points to novel therapies that eventually could slow or stop breast cancer progression.

Based on past clinical observations revealing that the expression of gene 14-3-3s is silenced in a large percentage of breast cancers, researchers had long suspected that it played a role in stopping cancer cells from dividing.

Hyderabad, December 02: The Andhra Pradesh High Court today dismissed a petition challenging the release of Vidya Balan starrer “Dirty Picture” tomorrow. Justice Vilas Afzulpurkar upheld the contention of the respondent Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) that the certificate to the movie was granted as per the provisions of Cinematographic Act, 1952, as well as related notification of the Central government, CBFC counsel B Mayur Reddy said.

New Delhi, December 02: The Delhi Police on Thursday announced a reward of ’15 lakh for anyone providing information on Indian Mujahideen (IM) operative, Ahmed Siddi Bappa alias Shahrukh, as they continue to look for six more men allegedly involved in the same IM module.

The Mumbai anti- terrorist squad ( ATS) arrived in the Capital and started questioning the six arrested suspected IM operatives to get more details about the blasts in Pune and other parts of the country.

New Delhi, December 02: Famers and consumers will be the casualties if foreign equity in retail trade is blocked due to narrow political gains, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said Friday, calling for a debate at the right forum rather than confrontation.

Speaking at the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit here, the finance minister said global experience showed how organised retail, with integrated supply chains, cuts post-harvest wastage and gets remunerative returns to farmers and competitive prices to the consumer.

Washington, December 02: Amnesty International has called on African nations to place the former US President George W. Bush under arrest during his tour of the continent this week.

“All countries to which George W. Bush travels have an obligation to bring him to justice for his role in torture,” Matt Pollard, an Amnesty official and senior legal adviser, said in a statement on Thursday, AFP reported.

The human rights group said, “There is enough evidence in the public domain” to justify Ethiopia, Tanzania or Zambia’s potential detention of Bush for human rights violations.

London, December 02: UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has appealed to all governments, business enterprises and NGOs’ to demonstrate their commitment to fighting slavery.

“Despite the considerable efforts of governments, civil society and the international community, we still live in a world blighted by slavery and slavery-like practices,” Ban said in a message on the International Day for Abolition of Slavery.

Moscow, December 02: Russia has warned Western countries over exacerbating tensions with Iran, stressing that such a move would be “fraught with severe consequences.”

“We speak out categorically against cranking up a spiral of tension and confrontation on issues linked with Iran. We believe that this … is fraught with severe consequences,” Reuters quoted Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich as saying on Thursday.

Washington, December 02: US Republican Senator John McCain has proposed a terrorist detainee amendment that could allow American citizens to be denied a civilian trial and sent to Guantanamo prison camp.

The amendment would technically give the US president and military enormous power to detain terrorism suspects without trial, or try such a person in civilian courts or the military tribunal system.

Just a few days back, Saif and Kareena were spotted checking out some buildings at Turner Road in Bandra, Mumbai.

Talking to a daily, a source said, “It was a surprise to see them walking on the road and entering a new construction nearby. Both were extremely casually dressed and in their flip-flops. Kareena had no make up at all.”
