New Delhi, December 03: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has surpassed other politicians, including the likes of Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj and former minister of state for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor to emerge as the most popular politico on social media.

Modi, who has often come under attack for his government’s alleged failure to stop 2002 riots in Gujarat, has been selected as the finalist in the fifth annual Masahable awards for the category of the “Must-Follow Politician on Social Media”.

Veena Malik’s ‘nude’ pic in Indian magazine causes furore in Pak

Islamabad, December 02: Pakistani actress Veena Malik, best known for her participation on Indian reality show Bigg Boss, was at the centre of a fresh controversy today after being featured nude on the cover of FHM India magazine, sporting a tattoo with the words ISI on her arm.

Though Veena, 33, has denied posing nude for the magazine, saying it is a “morphed picture”, FHM India editor Kabeer Sharma said the magazine had a video of the photo shoot with her and an email from the actress that proves the authenticity of the photograph.

PM under Lokpal ambit will weaken nation: Paswan

New Delhi, December 02: Lok Janshakti Party leader Ram Vilas Paswan on Friday said that bringing the prime minister under the ambit of Lokpal would weaken the nation and provide an opportunity to “hostile” neighbours to target India.

“The Prime Minister should not be kept in the Lokpal ambit, as it will weaken the nation. If the PM will have brain haemorrhage, then the body will not function…. the nation cannot function,” Paswan told reporters outside Parliament.

Police recover seven stolen bikes from notorious offender

Hyderabad, December 02: The Asifnagar police on Friday arrested a notorious vehicle offender and recovered seven stolen motor bikes from his possession.

According to police, the accused – 39-year-old Mohd Nazeer Ahmed, was arrested during a routine check-up near Yadav Bhavan at Gudimalkapur crossroads on Thursday evening while he was riding a stolen bike. During interrogation, Nazeer confessed of having stolen six other bikes from different parts of the city. At his instance, police recovered a total of seven bikes worth Rs 2.80 lakh.

Centering worker found murdered in city

Hyderabad, December 02: A centring worker was found brutally murdered in the Mirpet police limits on Friday.

According to police, it found the body of a 40-year-old man in the bushes near Prashant Nagar. He was later identified as Jingam Krishna, a resident of Prashant Nagar. The body was naked with both hands tied at the back side. Police suspect that sexual jealously or illicit relationship could be the reason that might have led to the murder.

18-month boy dies after consuming kerosene

Hyderabad, December 02:An 18-month-old boy was killed after he accidentally consumed kerosene.

The incident happened in the Maheshwaram police station limits on Friday. According to police, the boy – M Vishnu’s parents – Jangaiah and Anita, both labourers,

left him at their relatives’ place while going for work. However, while playing Vishnu consumed kerosene from a bottle kept in the house. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead on admission

Driver commits suicide in Karwan

Hyderabad, December 02:A 35-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by hanging to the ceiling fan at his residence at Karwan.

According to Tappachabutra police, the deceased Ashok Kumar – took the extreme step on Thursday night while he was alone in the house.

Ashok Kumar, an auto-driver, was married to Kalpana, a housemaid, about five years. The couple also had a child. However, they used to have arguments on regular basis and the same is believed to be the reason that led him to commit suicide. Further investigations are on.

Bad weather in B’lore hits flights

Chennai, December 02: Two Bangalore bound flights returned to Chennai in view of fog and bad weather in the Garden City. Sources said the Dubai-Bangalore Emirates flight, scheduled to land in Bangalore at 0300 hrs this morning, could not land due to fog and bad weather. On being diverted, the flight with 285 passengers, landed here around 0400 hrs, the sources said. Similarly, the Chennai-Bangalore Kingfisher flight could not land in Bangalore last night and returned to Chennai. Both the flights took off to Bangalore this morning after the weather cleared.

India’s 1st Naval fighter to take to skies soon

Bangalore, December 02: India’s first carrier-borne naval fighter aircraft “LCA Tejas (Navy)” will take to the skies for its maiden flight this month, a top defence official said on Friday, adding that it will form the air element of the Indian Navy.

“LCA (Navy) will be flown in the month of December.I think by the end of this month, it should fly”, V K Saraswat, Scientific Adviser to Defence Minister and Director General of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) said.

No resolution on Telangana: Kiran

Hyderabad, December 02: Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy today ruled out moving a resolution in the state assembly for seeking creation of Telangana state.

‘The government will not move any resolution on Telangana,’ Kiran told reporters in the Assembly in an informal chat after the House was adjourned for the day today.

The Chief Minister’s assertion comes against the backdrop of the demand by Telangana Rashtra Samiti and its vow to stall the proceedings till a resolution for creation of separate state was moved.

Congress core group meets on FDI in retail

New Delhi, December 02: In a bid to clear the logjam over the issue of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in retail sector, the core committee of Congress met here Friday.

Attended by senior party leaders like AK Antony, P Chidambaram and Pranab Mukherjee, along with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the meeting is believed to have discussed various ways to dispel the stand-off not only with the Opposition but also with its own allies.

Brake failure leads to a horrible accident, 1 killed, 2 injured

Hyderabad, December 2: In an accident occurred near Secunderabad bus station one man was killed and other two were injured. The accident occurred yesterday evening as the brakes of a bus were allegedly failed. The bus hit a complex nearby due to which a driver who was present in the complex was killed and general public were injured.

According to Gopalpuram police 50 year old Sundershan Goud who was the resident of Kerala was killed in the accident.

Kishenji’s death not good for country: Shibu Soren

Ranchi, December 02: Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) chief Shibu Soren said the death of Maoist leader Kishenji was ‘not good for the country’, inviting sharp reaction from political leaders.

‘Kishenji was a big leader. His death is not good for his party and not for the country,’ Soren, chairman of the ruling JMM-Bharatiya Janata Party alliance steering committee, told reporters in Jamshedpur.

Koteshwar Rao alias Kishenji was killed in a shootout with security forces in West Bengal last week.

Soren’s statement has invited sharp reaction in the political circle.

PM calls Mamata, but gets a firm ‘no’ on FDI

Kolkata, December 02: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Friday told Prime Minister Manmohan Singh that though she did not want the government to fall, supporting it on the issue of foreign equity in the retail sector was a ‘problem’ for her party.

‘Today (Friday), the prime minister phoned me asking to reconsider our decision on FDI (foreign direct investment) issue. I told him that we do not intend the government to fall, but supporting it on the FDI issue was a problem for us,’ Banerjee said.

Pilot safe as MiG-21 crashes in Haryana

Sirsa, December 02: An Indian Air Force MiG-21 fighter crashed in Haryana’s Sirsa district Friday following a technical snag but the pilot managed to eject moments before the plane went down, an official said.

The aircraft, which had taken off from the Sirsa airbase on a routine mission, crashed near village Mangalia, 35 km from here.

An official spokesman said that the pilot, Wing Commander J.D. Singh was safe.

A 19-year-old girl working in the fields nearby went into a state of shock upon hearing the explosion and was being treated at the Sirsa General Hospital.

70 Afghans injured in NATO base blast

Kabul, December 02: Spokesman for provincial administration Deen Mohammad Darwish told Press TV that the incident took place at 07:45 a.m. local time (0315 GMT) on Friday in the Mohamad Agha district of the province, around 30 kilometers (19 miles) south of the capital Kabul.

Darwish noted that three government buildings were destroyed as the explosion was huge and could be heard three kilometers (1.8 miles) away.

Local health officials said that 70 civilians injured in the incident were shifted to hospital to receive medical treatment.

Gunmen kill 4 policemen in Pakistan

Islamabad, December 02: The incident took place near Rango Bridge in the Khanewal district, which is located 396 kilometers (246 miles) east of the capital Islamabad, on Thursday evening when unknown assailants opened indiscriminate fire on the police forces.

The assailants later fled the scene in a car, and their whereabouts are reportedly unknown.

Police cordoned off the area after the incident and launched a search operation to arrest the perpetrators.

No group has claimed responsibility for the act of violence.
