Sonia, Rahul booked: Money in Swiss bank

New Delhi, November 02: Manohar Sharma, who is a lawyer by profession, filed a petition in the Supreme Court accusing Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi of stashing thousand crore black money in an account in Swiss Bank.

Mr Sharma accused the Congress president and her son of holding black money in a particular Swiss Bank account, however, neither Sonia nor Rahul claimed the ownership of the account.

Mr Sharma moved the Supreme Court asking the apex court to order the government to issue a minute probe to find out the details of the account.

Assembly session likely in Nov second week

Hyderabad, November 02: The next session of the State Legislative Assembly is likely to be held in the second week of November.

Talking to reporters at the Assembly, Civil Supplies and Legislative Affairs Minister D Sreedhar Babu said that the assembly’s Business Advisory Committee will meet in the first week of November to discuss the agenda for the next session. However, he did not specify as to when the session would be convened.

2 held for plot to kill Advani

Chennai, November 02: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the State Crime Branch on Tuesday arrested two persons in connection with the plot to blow up the convoy of Bharatiya Janata Party leader L.K. Advani near Madurai on October 28.

“We have arrested Abdul Rehman (26) of Nelpettai and Ismath (22) of Simmakkal in Madurai.

A motorcycle and an autorickshaw used to commit the offence were seized from their premises. Further investigation is on,” Additional Director-General of Police (CBCID) R. Sekar said.

World needs Islamic guidance: King

Makkah, November 02: The world needs the vision and guidance of Islam and Muslims should work hard to make sure this happens, said King Abdullah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, at a conference being held here entitled “Da’wa – present and future”.

The King said Muslims should actively review how effectively they are carrying the message of Islam to the rest of the world. Muslims should also ensure they are interacting properly amongst themselves and with the rest of the world, he said.

Parliament session likely from November 22

New Delhi, November 02: The Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs decided on Monday to recommend to the President that the winter session of Parliament commence on November 22 and end on December 23.

The just over-a-month-long session would hopefully see some important legislation being passed, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal indicated.

Although he did not mention any bill, senior ministers have said that the government intended to get the Lokpal Bill passed this session.

GOP candidate’s email says Islam is ‘not a religion’

Tampa, November 02: Scott Barrish, a Republican candidate for Hillsborough clerk of circuit court, has stirred up a fuss with an email to an Islamic group saying Islam is not a religion but an anti-American, totalitarian ideology “littered with human rights violations.”

Barrish signed his email as a member of the Hillsborough County Republican Party executive committee, prompting a rebuke from county party Chairman Debbie Cox-Roush.

New Delhi, November 02: A man has been arrested from south Delhi for allegedly molesting a woman and filming an obscene video clip. The accused, V Krishnan, a businessman from south Delhi, is alleged to have called the woman to his residence where he molested her, police said. A case has been registered at a south Delhi police station, they said.

Israel to Build 2,000 Housing Units in West Bank, Jerusalem

Jerusalem, November 02: Israel plans to move ahead with construction of about 2,000 homes in West Bank settlements and Jerusalem, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced in the wake of Palestinian membership in Unesco.

Some of the apartments will be built in Maale Adumim, one of the biggest Jewish settlements, and in the cluster of settlements known as Gush Etzion, Netanyahu’s office said in a text message sent late yesterday to reporters. Others will be in parts of Jerusalem that Israel annexed and Palestinians want to include in a future state.

Butt, Asif found guilty in Sport-fixing trail, sentencing later

London, November 02: Crisis-struck Pakistan cricket’s image took a severe beating today after a court here found former Test captain Salman Butt and pacer Mohammad Asif guilty of spot-fixing charges.

The 12-man jury found Butt guilty of conspiracy to accept corrupt payments and conspiracy to cheat, while Asif was convicted of the charge of conspiracy to cheat.

The decision came on the 20th day of the trial at Southwark Crown Court and required 16 hours of deliberation by the jury.

Man gets life term for raping daughter-in-law

Ghaziabad, November 02: A Ghaziabad court Tuesday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for raping his daughter-in-law in 2008 in Loni area.

Additional District and Sessions Judge P.K. Sharma also imposed a fine of Rs.48,000 on Akbar and said that “when a person in such a relation resorts to such an act, it sends out a very wrong message to society and hence there is no room for sympathy”.

The prosecution said Akbar, a resident of Amar Colony in Loni, married his son Azad to the victim, a native of Muzaffarnagar. Akbar raped her a few weeks after the marriage.

Rajasthan doctor booked for female foeticide

Ahmedabad, November 02: A case has been registered against a doctor of a private nursing home in Rajasthan on charges of infanticide and foeticide and administrating units of expired blood to patients, police said Tuesday.

The first information report has been registered against Dr Dinesh Mittal at Bhawani Mandi in Kota district, over 270 km from Jaipur.

“Some social activists had recently complained to the district collector in Kota after the bodies of new-born babies were found near a nursing home,” said Bhanwari Mandi police station incharge Gopichand Meena.

Old people more outgoing, sexually active

London, November 02: As the number of elderly rises worldwide, researchers find that old people today have more sex, are more likely to be divorced, are cleverer and feel better, and are more outgoing.

An extensive research project at Sweden’s University of Gothenburg compared the elderly of the 1970s with those of today.

The project, known as the H70 study, reveals that old age has changed drastically in a number of ways.

“It’s time to start talking about the ‘new old age’,” says Ingmar Skoog, professor from Gothenburg who led the study.

Gaddafi son Saadi wants arrest warrant dropped: lawyer

Algiers, November 02: Saadi Gaddafi, son of the former Libyan leader, has asked Interpol, via his lawyer, to revoke a request for his arrest on the grounds that Libya’s new rulers are not able to give him a fair trial.

Saadi, a businessman and former professional footballer, is in Niger after escaping across the border from Libya when National Transitional Council (NTC) forces captured the capital Tripoli in August.

Interpol has issued a “red notice” requesting that member states arrest Saadi with a view to extradition if they find him on their territory.

Mobile Tariffs May Fall, TRAI Suggests Zero Termination Charge

New Delhi, November 02: In a development that would bring mobile telephone tariffs further down, telecom regulator Trai has suggested doing away with termination charges in a phased manner over the next three years.

Termination charges, a part of Interconnection Usage Charges, are a levy paid by one operator to another on whose network a call ends. Any change in it will have impact on mobile tariffs.

At present, termination charge is 20 paise per minute and it forms a part of mobile tariffs.

Lover Stabs Girl 8 Times Near Ghaziabad

Ghaziabad, November 02: A lover stabbed his beloved eight times after she refused to marry him on Monday morning in Garima Garden, Sahibabad near here.

Kapil, the assailant went to the girl’s house when she was alone and offered to marry her but she refused. Enraged, Kapil whipped out a knife and stabbed her eight times, said Jitendra Kumar Shahi, SP City, Ghaziabad.

The girl has been admitted to Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital, Shahdara in critical condition.

Delhi HC blast: NIA examines Udhampur link

New Delhi, November 01: Suspecting a similarity between the blasts at Delhi High Court and in Udhampur, the National Investigation Agency is poring through forensic evidence and the interrogation report of a government employee arrested in connection with the Udhampur blast in May.

The NIA, probing the Delhi High Court blast, has taken forensic evidence gathered from the site of the blast at Udhampur which was aimed at making a Major General-rank officer posted at Army’s Northern Command the target, sources privy to the probe said today.
