Modi asks people to protect cows and take action against cow-slaughter

Jaipur, November 06: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday stressed the need for cow protection and asked people to take action against cow-slaughter.

“There is a need for all to come together and work for protection of cows and take action against cow slaughter,” Modi said while addressing a gathering in Nand Gaon, 40 kms from Sirohi district.

He also highlighted his government’s initiatives for cow protection in Gujarat.

Raju released from jail

Hyderabad, November 06: Thirty four months after his arrest in January 2009 in the multi-crore Satyam Computers scam, its former chairman B. Ramalinga Raju, was released from Chanchalguda central jail on Saturday evening along with his brother Rama Raju and ex-chief financial officer Srinivas Vadlamani after the Supreme Court granted them bail.

Their lawyers submitted two sureties of Rs 2 lakh each on behalf of each of them in the trial court where the case of accounting scam in the company is being heard. The magistrate later directed the jail authorities to release them.

Five killed, 27 injured as bus goes up in flames after collision

Erode, November 06: Five passengers were charred to death and 27 others injured, two of them seriously, when a private bus and an aviation fuel laden truck went up in flames after a collision near here in the wee hours on Sunday.

The Coimbatore-bound bus from Bangalore dashed against the truck carrying aviation fuel from behind at Chithode, about 15 km from Erode, on NH-47, resulting in an instantaneous fire which gutted both vehicles, police said.

5.6 magnitude quake rattles Oklahoma: USGS

Oklahoma, November 06: Authorities say a 5.6 magnitude earthquake has hit central Oklahoma, but they had no immediate reports of any injuries or major damages.

The U.S. Geological Survey reported from Golden, Colorado, on its website that it detected a 5.6 magnitude quake at 10-53 p.m. local time Saturday (0353 GMT Sunday), centered about 44 miles (71 kilometers) east-northeast of Oklahoma City. It had initially reported the temblor as a 5.2 magnitude quake.

14-year-old girl set on fire for resisting rape in Uttar Pradesh

Lalitpur, November 06: A minor girl in this Uttar Pradesh district was allegedly set afire by a youth for resisting rape, police said Saturday. She is battling for her life in hospital.

The accused youth is absconding.

According to police, the 14-year-old girl, a resident of Lakshmipura area was Thursday set afire by Lalit Soni, 19, of the same area when she resisted his rape attempt.

Acting on the complaint of the victim’s parents, police late Friday registered a case against Soni, who is absconding.

Asif likely to be moved to an open prison: Report

London, November 06: Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Asif, who is one of the three cricketers sentenced for spot-fixing, could be moved to an open prison, according to areport.

One of Asif’s close friend revealed that the cricketer is likely to be shifted by the end of next week, ESPNCricinfo reported. An open prison will allow him more freedom and privileges than at a closed prison where more dangerous criminals are housed.

A call was made to the solicitors of Salman Butt but they did not confirm or deny whether this was also true for their client, the report said.

Traffic restrictions imposed for Eid prayers

Hyderabad, November 06: In view of Id-ul-Zuha (Bakrid) prayers, the City Police have imposed certain traffic restrictions on November 7 (Monday) from 8 am to 11.30 am.

At Mir Alam Tank Idgah, all vehicular traffic proceeding towards the Idgah will be allowed via Puranapul and Bahadurpura Police Station road from 8 am to 11.30 am. During this period, no vehicle will be allowed to proceed from Idgah towards Bahadurpura PS and the Puranapul.

7 indicted in Benazir Bhutto murder case

Islamabad, November 06: A Pakistani anti-terrorism court hearing the Benazir Bhutto assassination case on Saturday indicted seven people, including two former top police officers responsible for providing security to the ex-premier.

Former Rawalpindi police chief Saud Aziz and ex-Superintendent of Police Khurram Shahzad were indicted by the court along with five alleged members of militant groups who were identified as Hasnain Gul, Rafaqat Hussain, Sher Zaman, Aitzaz Shah and Abdul Rasheed.

Five killed in attacks

Baghdad, November 06: Bomb and gun attacks in Iraq, including four bombs at the home of an anti-Qaeda militia leader, killed five people and wounded 13 others on Saturday, security officials said.

The bomb blasts struck the home of Yassin Issa Daud, a leader of Sahwa (Awakening) militia in Taji, north of Baghdad, about 6:30 am (0330 GMT), Taji police Captain Ahmed Fahad said.

The explosions killed three people, including Daud’s brother and wife, and wounded six other people, Fahad said, adding that Daud was not home at the time.

Guj 2002 massacre witness murdered near ATS Hqs

Ahmedabad, November 06: Nadeem Saiyed, a key witness to the Naroda Patiya massacre during the 2002 Gujarat riots, was brutally killed on the main street of Juhapura on Saturday.

He was stabbed 25 times, just steps away from the anti-terrorism group headquarters.

Two Juhapura residents, Firdos Mullah and Mushir Ahmed, have been booked for murder and conspiracy. Saiyed’s father named them along with several others, accusing them of ordering his killing.

Malegaon blast: Bail for all 9 accused

Mumbai, November 06: A Special MCOCA court granted bail on Saturday to all nine men accused in the 2006 Malegaon bomb blasts in which 37 persons were killed and hundreds injured.

The accused were granted bail after the National Investigation Agency (NIA) told Special MCOCA Judge Yatin D Shinde that it had decided not to oppose the bail pleas of the accused.

Pakistan not backtracked MFN status: Khar

Islamabad, November 06: Pakistan has not backtracked on the issue of giving India Most Favoured Nation-status and officials of the two countries will work out modalities for normalising bilateral trade relations, Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar said on Saturday.

“There is an impression in the media that Pakistan made a decision (on MFN) and then backtracked. This is totally wrong. I want to tell you that we are consistent,” Khar told reporters during an interaction in the eastern city of Lahore.
