Obama promises jobs for US veterans

Washington, November 08: United States President Barack Obama has urged lawmakers from both Democrat and Republican parties, to approve a package of tax credits for businesses that hire military veterans.

Obama announced a new “veterans’ gold card” program in which former US military personnel can receive customized job search at career centers, The Washington Post reported.

This week, the US Senate is expected to consider tax credits for businesses that hire unemployed veterans or injured vets who have been out of work.

Mumbai, November 08: Maharashtra Navnirman Sena Chief Raj Thackeray said that he was a “political bachelor” and did not need any “alliance”.

Attending the launch of a matrimonial site at a suburban hotel on Monday evening, Raj Thackeray said, “Politically I am a bachelor since nobody wants to have an alliance with me unlike some others who need two partners. There is no point in registering my name anywhere.”

Shiv Sena has formed an alliance with RPI apart from BJP. Raj Thackeray expressed his anger against Shiv Sena with the statement.

Attacking Iran serious mistake: Russia

Moscow, November 08: Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has warned against the consequences of any military attack against Iran over the country’s nuclear program.

“It would be a very serious mistake fraught with unpredictable consequences,” Lavrov said on Monday.

“Military intervention only leads to a multiple rise in casualties and human suffering,” he was quoted as saying by AFP.

Lavrov added that there can be no military solution to the Iranian nuclear issue.

Abu Salem’s plea to be heard today

New Delhi, November 08: A special Mumbai court is likely to give its order on Abu Salem’s application to halt the trials against him in India. This comes after the Lisbon High Court had cancelled Salem’s extradition plea in September for having breached extradition terms.

The CBI in its reply to the TADA court stated prosecution against Salem can be stopped only if it is notified by the Supreme Court or by the Centre’s order.

Teen allegedly raped by CRPF personnel in Warangal

New Delhi, November 08: A mentally challenged teenager gave birth to a premature baby after allegedly being raped by a CRPF personnel.

The baby died on November 6, a day after being born. The girl was staying in a hostel for the mentally challenged which is located next to a CRPF camp Warangal. The police have registered an FIR against the unidentified CRPF personnel.

Police suspect that the victim was raped in collusion with the hostel warden.

Although the girl was raped in April this year, an FIR was lodged only on the October 29 after the girl was admitted to a hospital.

Former US President George Bush Arrives In Mumbai

Mumbai, November 08: Former US President George W Bush arrived here this evening on a “personal visit” and checked into the iconic Taj Mahal hotel in South Mumbai.

“A private jet carrying Bush and his entourage landed at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport sometime back. He is in Mumbai for some personal work,” a senior IPS official told PTI.

The 65-year-old Bush and his team checked into the Taj Mahal hotel where he is likely to attend an event tomorrow, police said.

A Quick Response Team (QRT) has been deployed outside the hotel for his security, they said.

Hyderabad, November 07: On the eve of Bakri Eid, the demand for sacrificial goats yesterday saw an astronomical surge with each animal selling for at least three times the actual price, much to the delight of cattle breeders who have been camping in the city for the past three weeks.

Cattle breeders sold thousands of goats of various breed yesterday and generated at least three times more than the actual price for each animal they sold Bannur goats, normally priced at for Rs 4,000 each, fetched Rs 15,000.

Gulf Mom pushes daughters to vice

Kuwait City, November 07: A Gulf Arab woman living in Kuwait was accused by her son of indulging in vice and pushing her three daughters to do the same, a newspaper said on Monday.

The unnamed boy told police he had known that his mother had been involved in “obscene acts” for a long time and that he tried many times to deter her.

“When she started to push her three daughters to do the same, he lost patience and went to the police, who have opened an investigation into the case,” the Arabic language daily Alwatan said.

Mumbai, November 07: Internationally acclaimed filmmaker Shekhar Kapur says working with Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan in ” Bandit Queen” brought him closer to god.

“Working with Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was the closest I got to god,” Kapur wrote on microblogging site Twitter.

The late music maestro had composed music for Kapur’s 1994 film based on the life of dacoit Phoolan Devi, who was gunned down in 2001.

The composer tuned soulful numbers like “Sanware tore bin”, “Mora saiyaan to hai pardes” and “Sajna tere bina”.

Birthday against sharia: Darul Uloom Deoband

Muzaffarnagar, November 07: Darul Uloom Deoband has advised Muslims against celebrating birthdays, contending in a fatwa that Islam does not permit such a practice which is a “tradition of western countries”.

Responding to a query of an AMU student, Darul Uloom said that Islam does not permit such celebrations as they are against the Shariat law.

The query was made in reference to the birthday celebration of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, the founder of the Aligarh Muslim University.

Attack on Iran more & more likely: Israel

Jerusalem, November 07: Israeli president Shimon Peres warned on Sunday that an attack on Iran is becoming increasingly likely, days before a report by the UN’s nuclear watchdog on Iran’s nuclear programme.

“The possibility of a military attack against Iran is now closer to being applied than the application of a diplomatic option,” Peres said.

Bapuji fast unto death for Telangana ahead

Hyderabad, November 07: Telangana activist Konda Lakshman Bapuji, who has been on a Satyagraha over the past six days at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, is planning to launch an indefinite hungerstrike if the Centre fails to give a positive response to the statehood demand.
