I was fired by Foods Market because I am Muslim: Ex-Employee

Philadelphia, November 09: A former Whole Foods Market employee says he was fired because he is Muslim.

Glenn Mack Jr. told reporters Tuesday that he experienced harassment by his supervisors because of his Islamic faith, resulting in his termination.

A spokeswoman for the natural-food supermarket chain said the company denied Mack’s allegations.

Mack, 24, started working for Whole Foods in 2008. He was terminated in February 2011 for absenteeism, said his lawyer, Amara Chaudhry, with the Philadelphia chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.

Modi in China to sell Gujarat

Beijing, November 09: Chief minister Narendra Modi, who embarked upon a five-day visit to China on Tuesday, tweeted his mission is to promote Gujarat and attract Chinese investment. However, sources said, the purpose is to show how efficiently BJP-led state governments run in India.

Modi is third CM from BJP to visit China after Karnataka’s former chief minister BS Yeddyurappa and Madhya Pradesh’s Shivaraj Singh Chouhan.

According to the sources, Chouhan’s visit had got some negative publicity. So now the party has entrusted the responsibility of BJP’s image make over to Modi.

Israeli planes violate Lebanon airspace

Jerusalem, November 09: Six Israeli planes have reportedly entered Lebanese airspace in violation of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Resolution 1701.

The Lebanese army issued a statement on Tuesday, saying that two Israeli reconnaissance aircraft violated Lebanese airspace over the southern village of Ramish at 6:20 a.m. local time (0420 GMT).

The two Israeli planes left the Lebanese airspace at 1:50 p.m. local time (1150 GMT).

Melbourne, November 09: Their soured relationship was no secret but the attack launched by former India cricket coach Greg Chappell on Sourav Ganguly in his just-published autobiography reveals the Australian’s much deeper bitterness towards the ex-Indian skipper.

There was “no bigger panicker” than Ganguly, writes Chappell about the elegant left-hander who is till now India’s most successful captain.

Chappell acknowledges that Ganguly’s support was one of the reasons he got the coach’s job in 2005. But states that the Indian’s idea probably was ‘you scratch my back, I scratch yours’.

Special squad to tackle sexual harassment

Mumbai, November 09: The murders of Mumbai bravehearts Keenan and Reuben, who died defending their friends against sexual harassment, have served as a wake-up call for the police. They have now formed a special squad to tackle sexual harassment in the city.

The squad will consist of five young police personnel. Three of these police personnel including one female constable will be in plain clothes.

The squad will mingle with crowds and constantly patrol colleges, malls and crowded streets.

Ahmadinejad asks IAEA to report US atomic weapons

Tehran, November 09: Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has called on the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to issue a report on the atomic arsenal of the US, the Fars news agency reported.

The IAEA should release reports on the US atomic bombs concealed in 1,000 of its military bases, Ahmadinejad was quoted as saying.

The agency should report on the US atomic weapons instead of releasing “unreal” reports on the civilian nuclear programme of “independent” countries like Iran, he said.

UN reports Iran work ‘specific’ to nuke arms

Kuwait, November 09: A Kuwaiti man who bought a sheep for Eid Al Adha from an Asian dealer returned to the market the next day and angrily threw the animal on the dealer, saying it was a fake sheep that stopped bleating and died within hours.

When the man had checked the sheep, the dealer advised him not to waste his time because he had the best livestock in the market.

Instead of having one, the man was encouraged to buy two sheep. He happily took them to his house, tied them in the back garden and went to bed.

House maid raped in Kuwait

Kuwait, November 09: A man waited for a Kuwait family to go out for Eid Al Adha holiday, went into their house and stole KD300 ($1,000). On his way out, he raped the housemaid.

The man, who had watched the family leaving, managed to sneak into the house, using a knife. When he was stopped by the maid after stealing the money, he again used the knife to rape the girl.

“After his return home, the Kuwaiti man found his maid in a bad shape…she told him she was raped at knife-point and that the thief also stole money…the man informed the police,” Alanba daily said on Tuesday.

Helicopter rescues Sharjah residents

Sharjah, November 09: A major fire broke out at a residential building in Al Nahda, Sharjah, this afternoon.

According to eye-witness reports, the building, Al Aleeka, is a high-rise near Al Nahda park and several floors were burning, before the fire was brough under control by 4.30pm.

According to one eyewitness report, people had climbed up on to the terrace of the building and a rescue helicopter landed to airlift them.

At the time of filing this report there was no official confirmation on injuries.

The All India Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) MLA from the city and the floor leader in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly, Akbaruddin Owaisi met the chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy and Pradesh Congress Committee president Botsa Satyanarayana in this regard and asked them to honour their seat-sharing agreement with the MIM. New Delhi, November 09: Enforcement Directorate grilled Bollywood actor and IPL team co-owner Shah Rukh Khan for six hours today in connection with the allegation of money laundering in IPL 2.

The ED questioned SRK, who co-owns team Kolkata Knight Riders on Saturday.

In the past, the agency had recorded statements of other prominent personalities related to the BCCI or IPL teams, like Sunil Gavaskar, Ravi Shastri and the late Tiger Pataudi.

They were all questioned in connection with the ED probe into the irregularities in the second leg of the Indian Premier League.

Sarkozy Tells Obama, Netanyahu Is A Liar

London, November 09: French president Nicolas Sarkozy was plunged into a diplomatic storm today after describing the prime minister of Israel as a liar.

The remark about Benjamin Netanyahu was made privately to President Obama at the G20 summit but was picked up by a radio microphone. “I can’t bear to see him any more, he’s a liar,” Mr Sarkozy said in French.

Obama’s reply was almost as embarrassing. “You may be sick of him, but me, I have to deal with him every day.”
