5.1 quake hits China-Myanmar border region

Beijing, November 29: An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale jolted China-Myanmar border region late last night, the China Earthquake Networks Center reported.

The epicenter, with a depth of 7 km, was initially determined to be at 25.1 degrees north latitude and 97.6 degrees east longitude, the center said.

The tremor was felt in the city of Mangshi and Yingjiang and Tengchong counties in southwestern Yunnan Province at around 11:06 pm Beijing Time (2036 IST).

150,000 Iran missiles awaiting Israel

Tehran, November 29: Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi says Iran will teach Israel a good lesson if the entity tries to attack the Islamic Republic.

Vahidi said on Sunday that Israel will not have a minimal chance of survival after venturing a military attack against Iran, as Iranian armed forces will pound all of Israel with thousands of missiles, Fars News Agency reported.

“The enemy must answer this question, if it attacks Iran, for how long a battle and losing how many of its warships and vessels has it prepared itself?”

Suicide bomber hits Iraq military base, 19 dead

Baghdad, November 29: A suicide bomber attacked a military base in the Iraqi town of Taji on Monday, killing at least 19 people, in the latest assault by insurgents trying to undermine the government.

In central Baghdad an explosion in a car park at Iraq’s parliament killed at least one person and wounded several others, including a politician, security officials said.

TDP Mahila wing holds protest against inflation

At Last Kanimozhi Gets Bail In 2G Case

New Delhi, November 29: In a huge relief to DMK MP Kanimozhi and four others who have been in Tihar jail for over six months for their alleged role in the 2G case, the Delhi High Court today granted them bail treating them on par with five others released by the Supreme Court last week.

“I grant bail to five persons. The conditions would be same as imposed by the Supreme Court,” Justice V K Shali said.

Petrol may get cheaper by about 1 rupee/ litre

New Delhi, November 28: Petrol prices may be cut by about one rupee a litre this week, the second reduction this month, on falling global oil rates. State-owned oil companies, which on November 16 cut petrol price by Rs 2.22 per litre, may cut rates by another one rupee a litre on November 30

when they review the retail rates in line with international trends, a top official said.Petrol now costs Rs 66.42 per litre in Delhi.

15 people injured in Rajasthan communal clash

Jaipur, November 28: At least 15 people were seriously injured in a communal clash in Rajasthan’s Alwar district Monday, sparked off after some people issued an order to cut off the nose of a youth harassing a woman from their community, said police.

The punishment to the youth was for allegedly harassing a girl in Deewali village in Alwar, some 150 km from Jaipur.

The clash follows violence in Bharatpurs Gopalgarh town in which 10 Meo Muslims were killed and several others were injured Sep 14.

6 more trains cancelled due to fog

New Delhi, November 28: Railways on Monday cancelled six trains from here as dense fog over parts of North India continued to hamper train movement causing delay and rescheduling of services.

The Agra Intercity express, the North East Express to Guwahati, Howrah Express, Kaifiyat Express to Azamgarh, the Gondwana express to Jabalpur were among the trains which were cancelled for the day, said a Northern Railway spokesperson.

Close to 50 trains, including the Rajdhanis from the eastern states, arrived in the city several hours behind schedule, the spokesperson said.

CPI(M) blames govt for House disruption

New Delhi, November 28: CPI(M) on Monday blamed the Centre for disruption of Parliament over the FDI issue, saying it is “responsible” for the impasse.

“House is not functioning today and the responsibility lies totally with the government. The ball is in the government’s court,” CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury told reporters outside Parliament House here.

He said it is the government which has to decide whether they want the House to function or not. “It is the government which wants to avoid Parliament because Parliament wants answer on many issues,” he said.

Ghaziabad, November 28: “The complaint of misappropriation of funds against Kiran Bedi is false, malicious and mala fide…. It was lodged against Ms. Bedi not for fraud and cheating but for fighting for a strong Lokpal Bill,” Mr. Kejriwal told reporters in New Delhi.

All-party meet on FDI issue likely tomorrow

New Delhi, November 28: With the political opposition over FDI in retail gathering momentum, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday held consultations with Congress President Sonia Gandhi and is likely to call an all-party meeting tomorrow to resolve the deadlock in Parliament.

Chandigarh, November 28: Campaigning by various political parties and candidates for the by-elections to the Adampur and Ratia assembly seats in Haryana ended Monday evening.

Voting for both assembly seats will take place Wednesday (Nov 30), Haryana Chief Electoral Officer Sumita Mishra said here.

Hyderabad, November 28: The mystery behind the murder of an auto driver was unravelled by the police during questioning of accused in an attack case.

Disclosing this to newsmen here on Sunday, North Zone DCP Ch Srikanth said Waseem Khan, an auto driver of Musheerabad, used to drop a dancer hailing from Ram Nagar at her work place. She got two children and her husband went to his native place Jaipur three months ago. Taking advantage of the absence of her husband, Khan started harassing the dancer to marry him or have an illicit relationship with him.

10K run for 10 Telangana districts

Hyderabad, November 28: About 400 pro-Telangana students and sports lovers, wearing Tshirts and holding placards and banners, participated in a 10K Run here on Sunday. Though they did did not resort to any protest or shout slogans, the participants, affiliated to two little known organisations, carried banners, one of which read: “Every kilometre I run represents one district of my motherland.”
