Justice Lokur takes oath as APHC CJ

Hyderabad, November 16: Justice Madan Bhimrao Lokur on Tuesday took charge as the Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court.

At a programme held at Raj Bhavan, Governor E S L Narasimhan administered the oath of office to Justice Lokur. After administering the oath, the Governor congratulated Justice Lokur and wished him a very successful tenure as the Chief Justice of the AP High Court.

Justice Ghulam Mohammed was made the Acting Chief Justice on October 26 this year after the retirement of Justice Nisar Ahmad Kakru.

2 arrested for theft of Rs 54 lakh from firm

Hyderabad, November 15: Police on Monday arrested two persons who went on a pilgrimage to North India after stealing Rs 54 lakh from the office of a private firm at Afzalgunj more than a month back. Police have already recovered Rs 40 lakh from one of the accused while another Rs 11 lakh was recovered on Monday from the two main accused.

Doctor kills herself by injecting poison

Hyderabad, November 15: A doctor injected poison to herself to end her life at LB Nagar on Sunday.

Though family members of the doctor were tightlipped about the reasons behind the suicide, police suspect she might have ended her life due to failure in love. Incidentally, a doctor working with a private hospital residing in the same locality ended his life in a similar fashion a month back.

Roads being widened for Metro work

Hyderabad, November 15: For a smooth flow of traffic during the construction of metro rail, the Hyderabad Metro Rail, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, National Highways Authority of India and the state roads buildings department have initiated several preparatory works on priority stretches.

According to HMR managing director NVS Reddy, roads will be barricaded to a width of 26 feet (8 metres) between Nagole and Mettuguda (8 km) on Metro Rail CorridorIII, and between Miyapur and Ameerpet (12 km) on CorridorI from January to start the pillar and viaduct construction works.

3 empty Narsapur Express bogies gutted

Hyderabad, November 15: Fire broke out on an empty HyderabadNarsapur Express train at the Nampally railway station yard on Sunday evening, damaging three coaches. As the train was parked on the pit line on Platform No. 5 for maintenance much before its journey, it was empty and there was, therefore, no loss of life or injuries. It was scheduled to leave for Narsapur at night. Ruling out sabotage, police said it was an accident. A little after 5 pm, some passengers on the platform and railway staff noticed thick smoke emanating from S12 coach of the train.

HC orders CBI probe into Naidu’s wealth

Hyderabad, November 15: After YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, it will now be the turn of former chief minister and Telugu Desam president N Chandrababu Naidu to face a CBI investigation into his “riches”. The High Court on Monday asked the CBI, Enforcement Directorate and SEBI to conduct a preliminary investigation independently into Chandrababu Naidu’s assets and submit a report to the court within three months in sealed envelopes.

2 ISM students drown in Bhatinda waterfalls

Vijayawada, November 15: Two youngsters from the state, both second year students of the Indian School of Mines (ISM), Dhanbad in Jharkhand, state, who went on a weekend picnic met with a watery grave in Bhatinda waterfalls there on Sunday. A group of students of the institution went to Bhatinda waterfalls, some 20 km away from their college when one of them slipped and fell into the waters. Seeing his friend drowning, the other student went to his rescue but was also drowned.

TJAC to revive stir, target Congress

Hyderabad, November 15: The Telangana Joint Action Committee has decided to intensify the movement ahead of the winter session of Parliament which begins on November 22.

The decision was taken at a joint meeting of the TJAC and Telangana Employees Joint Action Committee (TEJAC) steering committee at TNGOs Bhavan here on Monday. TJAC chairman M Kodandaram presided over the meeting which was attended by representatives of all the TJAC constituents.

I was denied natural justice: Babu

Hyderabad, November 15: After the High Court ordered a CBI probe into his assets, opposition leader N Chandrababu Naidu has said the court should have served a notice to him and sought clarification before ordering a probe.

“Had the court served notices, I would have explained the facts. Without seeking my clarification, a probe has been ordered which is against the principles of natural justice,” Naidu told reporters in Vizianagaram, where he is on a padaytara, on Monday.

1,172 VRO, 6,063 VRA posts to be filled

Hyderabad, November 15: The state government will issue a notification for recruitment of 1,172 village revenue officers and 6,063 village revenue assistants posts on November 26. Addressing a press conference on Monday, revenue minister N Raghuveera Reddy said this is the biggest recruitment process taking place after nearly 24 years. Giving details of the recruitment process, the minister said the last date for receipt of filledin applications is December 17.

A severe jolt to Telugu Desam chief

Hyderabad, November 15: The High Court direction to the CBI to probe N Chandrababu Naidu’s assets could not have come at a worse time for him.

The TDP chief, who is feeling a little relieved with Telangana pressure coming off him, was trying to assert himself as a crusader against corruption and champion of farmers when the court order came as a bolt from the blue.

If he was flustered with the court’s direction, he did not show it but made no secret of his displeasure over the court not asking him to respond to the petition filed by YS Vijayamma that he was a venal politician.

Telangana Congress MPs to attend Parliament

Hyderabad, November 15: Telangana Congress MPs, who had submitted their resignations to the Lok Sabha speaker long ago, have decided to attend the winter session of Parliament which will commence on November 22 to build pressure on the party high command and the UPA government.

At a meeting held here on Sunday, they hoped that the Congress core committee would, in the next couple of days, recommend to the government to take a decision on Telangana. They plan to meet AICC president Sonia Gandhi also.

Speaker to confer with some MLAs Tuesday

Hyderabad, November 15: Assembly speaker Nadendla Manohar may personally confer with some MLAs on Tuesday to accept their resignations.

According to sources, the speaker invited TDP MLA Gampa Govardhan on November 15. As many as 81 MLAs submitted their resignations for the Telangana cause and in protest against the inclusion of former chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy’s name in the FIR filed by the CBI in Jagan’s illegal assets case.

Skull of missing Vizag girl found

Vishakapatnam, November 15: Residents of Buchirajupalem on Monday found a skull, suspected to be that of a 10 year old girl T Lakshmi, who had gone missing a month ago. They found books, school uniform and stationery items of the girl near the skull. Police are yet to confirm whether the skull is that of the girl. According to police reports, Tedu Lakshmi, a resident of Buchirajupalem area of the city and ClassV Student of Shanthiniketan School, went missing on October 14. Lakshmi’s parents lodged a complaint with the Gopalapatnam police station on October 25.

Assembly Session from December 1

Hyderabad, November 15: The winter session of the Legislative Assembly will start from December 1.

This was revealed by revenue minister N Raghuveera Reddy during a district collector’s video-conference held at the Secretariat on Monday.

The Minister informed the government has decided to conduct the winter session from December 1. On the first day of the session, the House would be adjourned after offering condolences to sitting and former MLAs who passed away recently.

The government is getting ready to take up discussion on the prevailing drought situation on the second day.

Gali’s custody extended till November 28

Hyderabad, November 15: A special court on Monday extended till November 28, the judicial custody of mining baron and former Karnataka minister Gali Janardhan Reddy and his brotherinlaw and managing director of Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC) B V Srinivas Reddy, in the illegal mining case.

The proceedings were conducted through videoconferencing from the Chanchalguda Central Prison, where the accused were lodged. This was done due to security reasons.

Students of AP need not take NEET’

Rajhmundary, November 15: All India Unaided Medical Colleges and Private Universities Association chairman Ganni Bhaskar Rao has said students of Andhra Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir need not appear for the National EligibilitycumEntrance Test for medical admissions as per Article 371D of the Indian Constitution.

Rao said in the Supreme Court’s judgement given on June 22, 1984 in Pradeep versus GOI case, students of the two states are exempted from the test by default.

Rajagopal in CBI custody till Nov 21

Hyderabad, November 15: The CBI special court here remanded the former vicechairman of the AP Mineral Development Corporation VD Rajagopal to CBI custody till November 21.

Rajagopal was arrested on Saturday night by the CBI in the illegal mining case and was produced before the special court on Monday. The court directed the CBI to question him from 10 a.m to 5 p.m. daily in the presence of his lawyers. The CBI also produced him before another magistrate on Sunday.

Koneru seeks bail for Sabarimala pilgrimage

Hyderabad, November 15: Donning a dark saffron shirt and a light saffron lungi, Koneru Rajendra Prasad alias Koneru Prasad, accused in the EmaarAPIIC property case, requested the special CBI court magistrate to grant him permission to undertake pilgrimage to the Ayyappa temple on Sabarimala in Kerala as part of his deeksha (vow).

Prasad, standing before the magistrate with his eyes closed, hummed hymns as the magistrate was drafting an order after hearing the arguments of the counsels of both the sides.

‘10% of people suffering from kidney problems’

Karimnagar, November 15: About 10 per cent of people in the state are suffering from kidneyrelated problems, said urologists at the 23rd Annual Andhra Pradesh Society of Genito Urinary Surgeons’ (APSOGUS) conference that ended here on Sunday. They suggested that people should drink plenty of water to avoid kidney diseases. “This is the first preventive measure,” the doctors said.

Jagan men next in speaker’s list

Hyderabad, November 15: Speaker Nadendla Manohar is said to have lined up more jitters for quitters in the coming days. He is likely to accept the resignations of more MLAs who have put in their papers for one reason or another or sack some of those MLAs against whom disqualification notices have been issued for indulging in cross-party flirtation.

Manohar is likely to take action on another half a dozen resignations and disqualification petitions before the winter session of the Assembly commences.
