Attacks on Muslims: action against perpetrators demanded

Hyderabad, November 17: General Secretary Pradesh Congress Committee Mr. Abid Rasool Khan strongly condemned the attacks on Muslims by the Hindu Vahini and communal elements in the twin cities and submitted a memorandum to the chief minister demanding strict action against the perpetrators.

Mr. Abid Rasool Khan told that attacks have been made on Muslims during the past one week in Hyderabad and Secunderabad by communal elements to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere of the city and with a motive to defame the government.

Dargah of Hazrat Syedna Syed Khaja Hasan Barhana Shah Saheb is located near the mosque. Unfortunately this mosque is uninhabited in Muslim inhabited locality.

UoH proposes 250% hike in hostel fees

Hyderabad, November 17: The University of Hyderabad in a sudden move has proposed to increase hostel fees paid by students by about 250 per cent. The budget proposed at the 67th Academic Council meeting on Wednesday included proposals for the increase in order to mobilise more internal resources.

The move comes after a letter from the University Grants Commission dated October 5, 2011 addressed to the UoH registrar expressed its inconvenience to enhance non-salary allocation as the ministry of Human Resource Development has not enhanced non-salary allocation for 2010-11 and 2011-12.

Pope-Imam kiss condemned

Vatican City, November 17: The Vatican Thursday issued a stern condemnation of a new global ad campaign by Italian clothes company Benetton including a photo montage of Pope Benedict XVI kissing a leading imam.

“We must express the firmest protest for this absolutely unacceptable use of the image of the Holy Father, manipulated and exploited in a publicity campaign with commercial ends,” Vatican spokesman Federico Lombardi said in a statement.

Chiranjeevi calls on Sonia Gandhi, RS seat likely

New Delhi, November 17: President of the Erstwhile Praja Rajyam Party and Tirupati MLA Chiranjeevi met Congress president Sonia Gandhi here on Wednesday and discussed the political situation in Andhra Pradesh, including the Telangana imbroglio.

At a meeting that lasted about 40 minutes, it is understood that among other things, it was also his first meeting with her after the Praja Rajyam Party’s merger with the Congress in August last and after her return from the United States.

Mr. Chiranjeevi was accompanied by MLC C. Ramachandraiah.

Spurious liquor seized

Hyderabad, November 17 (Siasat News): The excise officials stopped a DCM and seized spurious liquor worth Rs. 16 lakh.

The officers also seized stickers of whisky brands Officer’s Choice and Bagpiper and a Tata Indica car. Five persons have been taken into custody in this connection.

Further investigations are on.

Food inflation at 10.63% for week ended Nov 5

New Delhi, November 17: Food inflation eased to 10.63 per cent for the week ended November 5 even as prices of agricultural items, barring onions and wheat, continued to rise on an annual basis.

Food inflation, as measured by the Wholesale Price Index (WPI), stood at 11.81 per cent in the previous week ended October 29. The rate of price rise of food items stood at 11.41 per cent in the corresponding week of the previous year.

As per data released by the government today, onions became cheaper by 22.89 per cent year-on-year, while wheat price were down 3.63 per cent.

Police got the shops closed in old city, Vehicles searched

Hyderabad, November 17: The atmosphere in the old city has become tense after the attacks by the Hindu activists on the Muslim youths last week. As a result of which the businessmen of the old city have to pay the price for it.

It seems that till 6th December, the businessmen have to bear it. City Police Commissioner Mr. A. K. Khan held a meeting with the police officers of south zone in which he issued clear instructions to get the shops closed after 11 pm. Police implemented these instructions and started asking the shopkeepers to shut their shops from 10-30 itself.

Charminar Co-operative Bank goes bankrupt – License cancelled by RBI

Hyderabad, November 17: The license of Charminar cooperative Urban Bank has been cancelled by the R.B.I on its becoming bankrupt. R.B.I. in its letter issued on 8th November 2011 stated that energy effort made to restore the functioning of the bank has failed and hence its license stands cancelled with effect from 15th November 2011. Registrar of cooperative societies has been instructed to appoint a liquidator to clear off the claims of the depositors.

Saudi man raped daughter

Riyadh, November 17: A Saudi man got drunk, went into his teen age daughter’s room and raped her, taking advantage of the absence of his wife for work.
When her mother returned home, the 17-year-old girl told her what her father had done but the mother did not believe her and told her to stop lying.

A few days later, the father raped his daughter four times, pushing her to flee to her grandmother’s house in the western town of Makkah.

Muslims activities are closely watched whereas other activities neglected

Hyderabad, November 17: Police may proclaim its unbiased role but its action defeats the claim. The attitude of the police is varied for various sects. There is a separate section to watch the suspicious activities and under it two branches function one for the activities of the Muslims and the other for the Hindus.

It has been observed that the branch responsible for watching the movements of the Muslims is very active whereas the other branch is almost dormant. In addition to Muslim Communal Field there is another branch with the name special operation cell.

Attack on Advani foiled in Chandigarh: Report

New Delhi, November 17: The security forces on Thursday foiled an attack on BJP veteran LK Advani, who is currently touring Chandigarh as part of his Jan Chetna Yatra to highlight the issue of corruption.

As reported in a news channel, the unidentified attacker has been held by the security forces on guard to protect Advani and is being taken for further questioning.

The BJP leader is safe and is expected to leave shortly for Ambala.

U.S. drones kill 20 in Pakistan

Islamabad, November 17: The U.S. stepped up drone attacks in the tribal areas of Pakistan adjoining Afghanistan this week with both North and South Waziristan coming under attack over the past two days, reportedly killing at least 20 terrorists.

After targeting the Miranshah area of North Waziristan on Tuesday, the CIA-operated unmanned Predators struck at two compounds in South Waziristan in the early of hours of Wednesday, killing at least a dozen terrorists.

PM leaves for Bali, Singapore

New Delhi, November 17: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Thursday left for a four-day trip to Bali, where he will attend the East Asia and the ASEAN summit, and Singapore where he will hold bilateral talks with the leadership of the city state.

The highlight of the trip, his third abroad in a month, will be his meetings with US President Barack Obama and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao in the Indonesian island.

From Bali, the prime minister will head to Singapore for two days before returning home on the night of Nov 20.

Top Hizbul militant killed

Srinagar, November 17: A top Hizbul Mujahideen militant was killed in an encounter with security forces in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Thursday.

On information about presence of militants in the area, security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Shalidora village in Keller area of Shopian, 55 kms from here, last night, officials said.

Militants opened fire on security forces in the wee hours which was retaliated, triggering off a gun battle.

‘Iran nuclear program nonnegotiable’

Tehran, November 17: Head of Iran’s Majlis (parliament) Foreign Relations Sub-committee says the country’s nuclear program is not open to negotiation with P5+1.

Heshmatollah Falahatpisheh said on Wednesday that the West believes Iran’s nuclear issue is negotiable because they aim to impose pretend and hyped negotiations on Tehran.

The lawmaker was referring to EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton’s recent remarks, proposing that Iran must restart nuclear talks with P5+1.

Union Govt. sanctions Rs. 535 cr. for development works in MP’s 8 backward districts

Bhopal, November 17 (Pervez Bari): A sum of Rs. 535 crore for development works in eight Maoist violence-affected backward districts of Madhya Pradesh has been sanctioned by the Central Government.

These funds have been sanctioned for the construction of 1665 kilometer long 458 roads. Besides, consensus has been reached over connecting villages with 800 to 999 population in Madhya Pradesh with rural roads.
