India and US have made progress in every area: PM

Bali, November 18: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and US President Barack Obama met here on Friday and declared their intention to push the Indo-US cooperation both at bilateral and at multilateral forums.

Singh and Obama, who met here on the sidelines of ASEAN and East Asia Summits, talked about strengthening the bonds of strategic ties put in place during the historic visit of the US President to India in November last year.

Panetta: Iran raid risks world economy

Washington, November 18: US Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta has said that any possible military strike against Iran would have consequences for the world economy.

“I have to tell you… there are going to be economic consequences to that, that could impact not just on our economy but the world economy,” he told reporters on Thursday.

The Pentagon chief once again threatened the Islamic Republic with diplomatic pressure and sanctions.

“Obviously to go beyond that raises our concerns about the unintended consequences that could result,” Panetta was quoted as saying by Reuters.

Kuwait holds crisis talks amid tensions

Kuwait, November 18: Kuwaiti officials hold crisis talks after the country’s parliament was stormed by protesters demanding the resignation of Premier Sheikh Nasser Mohammad al-Ahmad Al Sabah.

The Kuwaiti council of ministers launched an emergency meeting on Thursday chaired by Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad Al Sabah following the sharp rise in the anti-regime sentiment in the Persian Gulf Sheikhdom, AFP reported.

The Parliament also cancelled a scheduled meeting after the protesters broke in late on Wednesday and left some damage in the building.

198000 computers to school kids

New Delhi, November 18: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will provide 198,000 computers free of cost to students of class 4 in its schools, a civic agency official said Thursday.

“The corporation will provide 198,000 computers free of cost to students of class 4 in the current academic year. Each computer will cost Rs.2,000,” MCD’s Education Committee chairman Mahendra Nagpal said.

He said that MCD will start distributing the computers in next couple of months, adding it will cost the state exchequer a sum of Rs.30 crore.

Hyderabad, November 18: The Central Bureau of Investigation Special Court at Nampally on Thursday adjourned the hearing till November 28 on a petition filed by the Income Tax Department seeking possession of documents found by the CBI during the searches in the disproportionate assets case related to former Karnataka Minister Gali Janardhan Reddy and Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC) Managing Director B V Srinivas Reddy residences.

Cash-for-votes: Kulkarni, two BJP former MPs walk out of Tihar

New Delhi, November 17: Sudheendra Kulkarni, ex-advisor to former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and two Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) former MPs, who were accused in the 2008 cash-for-votes scam, walked out of Tihar jail Thursday.

Kulkarni and former MPs Faggan Singh Kulaste and Mahabir Singh Bhagora were granted bail by the Delhi High Court Wednesday on the grounds that there was no evidence to support their involvement in the illegal gratification that rocked parliament ahead of a trust vote.

US drone strike kills 7 in NW Pakistan

Islamabad, November 17: US unmanned aircraft fired four missiles at a house in the remote Padam Shah village of Razmak area in the troubled North Waziristan district on Thursday. At least seven people were killed and several others were wounded in the aerial attack.

The strike comes a day after 18 people were killed and several others were injured in a US assassination drone attack in Pakistan’s South Waziristan.
