Excise employees join Telangana strike

Hyderabad, October 05: Thousands of employees of the excise department in Andhra Pradesh’s Telangana region joined the “people’s strike” for a separate state Wednesday, the 23rd day of a crippling stir that has led to massive losses.

From constables to joint commissioners, about 4,000 employees of the excise department have launched the indefinite strike in support of a Telangana state.

Officials fear “dry days” in Hyderabad and nine other districts of the region. If the strike continues for next few days, liquor shops in the region will be closed for want of supplies.

Lucknow, October 05: Naseem Khan is satisfied with the modest earnings from his small tailoring shop. But every year around Dusshera, Khan turns slightly worried.

He starts accepting orders in bulk to raise his income, not for his family, but for raising funds for organising Ramlila: the mythological play based on the Hindu epic Ramayana.

Like Khan, many Muslims in Mumtaz Nagar village of Uttar Pradesh’s Faizabad district have been keeping alive the village’s decades-old custom, under which all arrangements for holding Ramlia are looked after by members of the minority community.

She is molesting me: man tells police

Kuwait City, October 05: A man who had enough of persistent mobile phone calls and texts by a woman in Kuwait went to the police and told them she was molesting him.

The man, a bedouin (without identity), said the woman stopped her calls after he threatened to report her but she later began to flood him with mobile texts.

“He went to the police and said he was being molested by that woman as she was sending obscene messages to him,” Alanba daily said on Wednesday.

It said the unnamed man showed the police some of the texts sent by that woman as an “evidence of molestation.”

The Congress General Secretary took the Delhi metro and then used a radio taxi to reach the Japanese Park in north-west Delhi’s Rohini area.

The driver of the cab, a man named Shravan, wasn’t expecting a nationally-recognized passenger when he was flagged down near the Rohini metro station.

“I was asked to drive till the Japanese park and then paid Rs. 200 when we got there,” Shravan said.

Family of 10 found dead near reservoir

Dehradun, October 05: In a shocking incident in Dehradun, 10 members of a family were found dead near a Yamuna reservoir.

The incident that was being treated as suicide earlier, is now being investigated as a case of mass murder.

Police suspect a man called Manoj Kumar took three women of his family, with their six kids on a picnic and poisoned them, and threw their bodies down the Shakti canal before committing suicide himself.

“If a major commits suicide and involves children then it is a murder,” said Dehradun SSP G N Goswami.

Telangana agitators arrested for assaulting a cop

Karimnagar, October 05: A former MLA was among 23 Telangana protesters arrested here on Tuesday for allegedly assaulting a police officer.

The accused were taking part in an agitation on Saturday at Manthani town near here when the police tried to restrain them and also resorted to baton charge.

Police said the agitators attacked ASI Rajamouli who sustained injuries.

A case was registered against 27 agitators including Chandupatla Ram Reddy, an ex-MLA from the area. Four of the accused were remanded in judicial custody yesterday.

New York, October 05: A photo of a chicken published in The New York Times has sparked a debate between animal welfare groups.

PeTA has spoken out about the photo of a fresh whole chicken lying in a controversial pose.

The image, which featured on the front page of the broadsheet’s Dining and Wine section, outraged extreme vegan organisation PeTA.
