TDP supports Polavaram project: Naidu

Hyderabad, October 30: Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu made it clear that his party was in favour of construction of Polavaram multi-purpose irrigation project.

Addressing the executive meeting of party’s farmers’ wing at NTR Trust Bhavan here on Saturday, Naidu said that the TDP wants the Polavaram project to be completed as planned. He said the party was also in favour of Chevella-Pranihita project. However, he demanded that the government must provide a suitable relief and rehabilitation package to all the affected and displaced people.

100 phone booths for pilgrims seeking Haj fatwas

Makkah, October 29: One hundred special telephone booths have been set up in the Two Holy Mosques to connect pilgrims seeking information on Haj to Islamic scholars, the General Presidency for Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques said.

“The scholars are available around-the-clock to answer any question on Haj rituals,” said a spokesman for the General Presidency.

Scholars are seated near King Abdul Aziz, Ajaid and Al-Fatah Gates, he added. Pilgrims can also approach them directly.

Cheating cases against Naidu

Hyderabad, October 29: A local court on Friday directed the Cyberabad police to register a cheating case against Telugu Desam president Nara Chandrababu Naidu for going back on his support for separate Telangana.

The direction was given by the 11th metropolitan magistrate based on a petition filed by S Janardhan Goud and Krishna, two advocates from Chaitanyapuri.

Cash-for-votes: Kulkarni, ex-BJP MPs move HC for bail

New Delhi, October 29: Sudheendra Kulkarni, former aide of BJP leader L K Advani and an accused in cash-for-vote case, on Saturday moved the Delhi High Court against refusal of bail to him by the trial court.

Besides Kulkarni, former BJP MPs Faggan Singh Kulaste and Mahabir Singh Bhagora also approached High Court challenging the verdict of the trial court dismissing their bail pleas.

Soz to meet Congress high command on AFSPA

Srinagar, October 29: Jammu and Kashmir’s Congress unit chief Saif-ud-Din Soz will be briefing the party leadership about Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s statement that the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) will be revoked from ‘some areas of the state’, sources said Saturday.

Party sources added Soz is leaving for New Delhi Sunday.

He has already briefed some senior Congress leaders about the manner in which the chief minister made the statement at a police function Oct 21 without consulting his coalition partner Congress or the cabinet.

Digvijaya cautions Sri Sri on links with BJP, RSS

New Delhi,October 29:Congress general secretary Digvijaya Singh is keeping up his attack on spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, calling him a BJP-RSS agent.

Most rapes in Delhi, Mumbai is second

New Delhi, October 29: Delhi is perhaps the most unsafe city for women as 414 rape cases were reported in the national capital in 2010, the highest among 35 major cities in the country, while Mumbai followed it with 194 such incidents.

According to government statistics released today, 23 per cent of rape cases in these urban areas took place in Delhi and 10.8 per cent in Mumbai.

A total of 1,422 kidnapping or abduction of women have taken place in Delhi last year which is 37.7 per cent of the total cases in 35 major cities.

Girl burnt in ‘satanic ritual’

Johannesburg, October 29:A teenaged girl was in a coma Monday after being doused with petrol and burnt alive in a “satanic ritual” in Johannesburg, a media report said.

Kirsty Theologo, 18, suffered 75 percent burns when she was set alight by her friends in a park, The Star newspaper reported.

One of her friends, who was injured when she tried to help Kirsty after she was engulfed in the fire, said that the boys wanted to sacrifice them in a satanic ritual.

They were part of a group of five boys and three girls when the ritual was being carried out on them.

3 arrested for bothering women on phone

Hyderabad, October 29: Commissioner Task Force West Zone team arrested 3 youth who were threatening people using pre-activated sim cards. It is said that 23 year old Anil Singh resident of Kamatipura along with his two other friends 23 year old Anil Singh resident of Mangalhat and 27 year old Shaikh Imran resident of Kishan Bagh Bahadurpura were sending threatening and vulgar SMSs to women and other people.

On receipt of information Commissioner Task Force West Zone team arrested the 3 youth and seized 55 sim cards and other items from their possession.

Young girl falls in a sump; dies

Hyderabad, October 29: According to additional inspector Banjara Hills Mohammad Waheeduddin a young girl fell into a water sump in Banjara Hills area and died.

2 year old Kumari Hina, daughter of V Purvaya resident of Lakshmi Narsimha Nagar, Yousufguda fell into a sump of under construction building and died. Purvaya and his wife was busy working on the 3rd floor of the under construction building and the girl was playing on the ground floor. While playing, she accidentally fell into the sump.
