Warangal, September 29: Jamat-e-Islami Hind Warangal on Wednesday staged a large scale rasta roko programme at Warangal Pochamma ground (Iqbal Minar) leading to a heavy traffic jam. Outrage over flogging sentence against woman driver

Jeddah, September 29: The lashing punishment handed to Shayma Jastaniah for flouting the driving ban has caused outrage among Saudis and expatriates living in the Kingdom.

Shayma, in her 30s, was found guilty of driving without permission and sentenced to 10 lashes on Tuesday, a day after Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah granted Saudi women the right to vote and run for municipality council positions and sit on the Shoura Council as full members.

Sources close to Shayma’s family said she had appealed the sentence.

TDP MLA resigns, joins TRS

Hyderabad, September 29: The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has received another setback with one of its legislators resigning from the party and joining the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), which is leading the movement for statehood to Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh.

Gampa Goverdhan, who represents Kamareddy assembly constituency in Nizamabad district, told reporters Thursday that he has sent his resignation to TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu.

No newspapers for Hyderabad

Hyderabad, September 29: The twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad in Andhra Pradesh Thursday went without newspapers as hawkers joined the ongoing general strike for a separate Telangana state.

No newspapers could reach the readers as the hawkers stayed away from distribution of papers. English, Telugu, Urdu and Hindi newspapers were missing from bookshops and newspaper stands across the state capital.

4 Nigerians arrested for lottery scam

Hyderabad, September 29: The Cyber Crime Cell of the Crime Investigation Department of Andhra Pradesh Police has arrested four Nigerians, including two women, from New Delhi for allegedly duping a teacher to the tune of over Rs 45 lakh in a typical lottery scam.

Additional Director General of Police (CID) S V Ramana Murthy said that the victim, a teacher, received an SMS in May this year, which said she had won the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 lottery draw’, and was entitled to prize of 10 lakh pounds. She was asked to pay some money to claim the prize money.

Yuvraj for the assessment year 2012-2013 payed an advance tax of Rs 1.75 crore payed by him this Sep 2011 which was 84 percent more than the advance tax he paid in the year Sep 2010 that was Rs 95 lakh.

Manmohan in denial mode: BJP

Plane crashes in western Indonesia; 18 feared dead

Jakarta, September 29: A small plane CASA C-212 carrying 18 people crashed in western Indonesia on Thursday, officials said.

Bambang Ervan says the CASA C-212 aircraft went down in the North Sumatran village of Bahorok. It was carrying three crew members and 15 passengers.

A Transportation Ministry spokesman says a small plane carrying 18 people has crashed in western Indonesia.

After receiving reports about the crash from local residents ,search and re3scue teams rushed to the spot.

School bus overturns in UP, 25 students hurt

Lucknow, September 29: As many as 25 students were injured, four of them critically, when their school bus overturned in Uttar Pradesh’s Moradabad district Thursday, police said.

The accident took place in Civil Lines area, some 250 km from Lucknow, when the speeding bus of Modern Public School overturned. The driver escaped.

“With assistance from locals, we rescued all the students trapped inside the bus,” police inspector S.K. Pratap said.

The students are in the age group of 10-16 years.

NIA to take Samjhauta evidence to Hyderabad

Panchkula, September 29: A special court on Wednesday allowed National Investigating Agency (NIA) sleuths to take evidence and proof of Samjhauta blast case to Hyderabad, for comparison with those of bomb attacks in Malegaon, Hyderabad and Ajmer.

NIA lawyer had moved an application seeking permission to take evidence to CFSL laboratory in Hyderabad, in the court of NIA special judge Subhash Mehla.

Mubarak’s minister gets 7-yr jail term

Cairo, September 29: Egypt’s information minister under the former dictator Hosni Mubarak has been sentenced to seven years in jail on charges of corruption.

Anas al-Fekky, who had been detained in February, was convicted during a trial at a court in the country’s capital, Cairo on Wednesday, Reuters reported.

The prosecution had charged him with squandering the public funds flowing into the state-run Radio and Television Union, which was presided over by the Information Ministry, alongside Osama al-Sheikh, the union’s former head.

Bambang Ervan says the CASA C-212 aircraft went down Thursday in the North Sumatran village of Bahorok. It was carrying three crew members and 15 passengers.

Mr. Ervan says rescuers received reports about the crash from local residents and were still trying reach the scene.
