Congress takes dig at Advani over yatra

New Delhi, September 13: Congress Monday took a dig at Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader L.K. Advani over his planned rath yatra against corruption, saying that it was another reflection of his “buring desire to change his permanent status as prime minister-in-waiting”.

Congress spokesman Abhishek Singhvi said the BJP should list out the specific anti-corruption measures taken by the party during National Democratic Alliance’s rule from 1998 to 2004.

Zakia Jafri, who had petitioned the Supreme Court for Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and 63 others to be investigated for their complicity in the murder of her husband by a mob, voiced frustration and dismay at the verdict.

Hyderabad, September 13: The Telugu Desam Party will organize dharnas in front of district Collectorates across the State on September 19 to protest against the State Government’s ‘indifferent attitude’ towards farmers’ problems.

Addressing a press conference at NTR Trust Bhavan here on Monday, Naidu slammed the government for not responding to the farmers’ pleas for help for the last so many months. He alleged that the state government’s lack of response to the farmers’ woes was forcing them to commit suicide.

Azharuddin son’s multi-organ failure, Ayaz health still critical

Hyderabad, September 13: Former cricketer and Congress MP Mohammed Azharuddin’s son Mohammed Ayazuddin, who suffered critical injuries in a high-speed motorcycle accident on Sunday morning, continues to be in a very critical condition on the second day. Ayazuddin cousin, Azmal-ur-Rahman, had succumbed to his injuries in the accident.

On Monday, doctors said that the 19-year-old is suffering from multi-organ failure and doctors are trying to assess the condition of his brain. His vital functions are being maintained with medication and other treatment.

120 dead in Kenyan pipeline fire

Nairobi, September 13: At least 120 people burnt to death on Monday when a fuel pipeline burst into flames in a slum area in the Kenyan capital, said an official.

“The death toll from bodies counted so far is 120. It is likely to rise because of the bodies in the river,” said an official.

Police earlier said more than 100 people had been killed in the explosion at Nairobi’s Lunga Lunga industrial area, which is surrounded by the densely packed tin-shack housing of the Sinai slum.

Early Sunday, cricketer Mohammed Azharuddin’s youngest son, Ayazuddin crashed into a divider on the speedway.

The highspeed crash on a superbike killed the pillion rider, his sixteen-year-old cousin Ajmal-ur Rahman, and left the lad grievously wounded.

Rushed to hospital by a police Rakshak van, he lay battling for his young life of 19 years.

London, September 13: Team India were entangled in yet another controversy on the England tour when they skipped the prestigious ICC awards on Monday, even with Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni and Gautam Gambhir shortlisted for individual awards in four categories. London, September 13: Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the Spirit of Cricket Award while iconic batsman Sachin Tendulkar missed out the Cricketer of the Year honour at a glittering ICC Awards function on Monday night.

Dhoni was chosen for the ICC Spirit of Cricket Award for his fine gesture of recalling Ian Bell after the England batsman was run out under controversial circumstances during the second Test at Trent Bridge in July.

Tendulkar, who was named Cricketer of the Year in 2010 when the awards function was held in Bangalore, missed out this time.

Hyderabad, September 13: A 40-year-old woman was strangulated to death by some unknown persons who came to her house on the pretext of taking her house on rent.

The incident happened in the limits of Neredmet police station on Monday. According to police, the woman, Surekha, was alone in her house at Rambrahma Nagar when the incident happened. New York, September 13: Jackie Kennedy did not have much kind words in 1964 for India’s future prime minister Indira Gandhi, whom the widow of former US president J F Kennedy, called a “bitter and a horrible woman”.

According to interviews, Kennedy gives “tart commentary on former presidents, heads of state, her husband’s aides, powerful women, women reporters, even her mother-in-law”.

SC relief for Narendra Modi in 2002 riots case

Ahmedabad, September 13: In a relief to Narendra Modi, the Supreme Court on Monday ruled that a trial court would hear the petition by Zakia Jafri, who alleged deliberate inaction on the part of the Gujarat Chief Minister in the killing of her husband Ehsan Jafri and dozens of others in Ahmedabad’s Gulberg Society during the 2002 riots.

The plea by Jafri, the widow of former Congress MP Ehsan Jafri, also alleged inaction on the part of Modi’s Cabinet colleagues and some high-ranking state officials.

International Passports must for Haj 2012

Hyderabad, September 13: Only valid International Passport holders would be able to apply for the Haj from next year.

According to AP State Haj Committee chairman Syed Khaleeluddin Ahmed, no applications would be received for Haj 2012 if the applicants do have a valid international passport. He appealed all the intending pilgrims to get their passports ready before submitting applications for the Haj 2012. They have also been advised to ensure that the expiry date of the passport is not earlier than March 31, 2013.
