Popular Front to hold Social Justice Conf. in Nov.

Bhopal, September 14 (Pervez Bari): Popular Front of India, (PFI), has decided to hold “Social Justice Conference” (Samajik Nyay Conference) at New Delhi on November 26 and 27 this year.

The decision was taken at the two days meeting of the National Executive Council of the PFI which was held at its headquarters in New Delhi.

2 trains collide near Chennai, 9 dead

New Delhi, September 14: Two trains collided near Arakkonam in Vellore district of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday night resulting in at least eight people being killed and 85 others injured, many of them critically. The tragedy took place when a passenger train was hit from behind by an Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) train.

The Arakkonam-Katpadi train was travelling from Arakkonam to Katpadi in Tamil Nadu and was waiting for signal when it was hit by the Chennai Beach-Vellore EMU, resulting in five bogies getting derailed.

Surekha, Satyavathi resigns afresh for Telangana

Hyderabad, September 14: Expressing solidarity to Telangana employees general strike, Parkala legislator Konda Surekha and Bhadrachalam MLA Kunja Satyavathi on Tuesday resigned afresh from their post for the cause of Telangana.

Surekha and Satyavathi submitted their resignation letters to Assembly Secretary Raja Sadaram due to the absence of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker at their office in the legislative assembly. Later, talking to media persons, Konda Surekha, who shifted her loyalties to YSR Congress party, said that she submitted her resignation for the cause of Telangana state.

LS wants official celebration of Hyd Liberation Day

Hyderabad, September 14: The Lok Satta Party on Tuesday demanded that the State Government officially celebrate the liberation of Hyderabad from Nizam’s rule on September 17.

Lok Satta leaders Katari Srinivasa Rao and Bandaru Ramamohan Rao said that the liberation of Hyderabad on September 17, 1948 was a victory for democracy and the Indian nation and it marked the culmination of Indians’ struggle for freedom from the British rule.

They asked all Lok Satta Party units in the State to unfurl the national flag and celebrate Hyderabad Liberation Day on September 17.

Gali may undergo lie detectors test

Hyderabad, September 14: Former Karnataka Minister and mining baron Gali Janardhan Reddy and other accused arrested in the Obulapuram Mining case might undergo brain-mapping and polygraph tests.

According to CBI Joint Director VV Laxminarayana, the agency might seek court’s permission to conduct brain-mapping and polygraph tests on Gali Janardhan Reddy, if found necessary. However, he said besides the court’s permission Janardhan Reddy and other accused would be required to give their consent for the same.

TDP MLAs held after protest at Secretariat

Hyderabad, September 14: MLAs and workers belonging to the Telugu Desam Party were arrested by the City Police when they tried to enter the State Secretariat here on Tuesday.

Expressing their support for the general strike call given by the Telangana employees’ unions across the region, a group of TDP leaders and workers led by TDP Telangana Forum convener Errabelli Dayakar Rao initially tried to enter the premise of the State Secretariat. When the police prevented from doing so, they staged dharna in front of the Secretariat’s main gate while shouting ‘Jai Telangana’ slogans.

Gali in CBI’s custody till Sept 19

Hyderabad, September 14: The Central Bureau of Investigation Special Court on Tuesday sent the former Karnataka minister and mining baron Gali Janardhan Reddy to CBI custody for seven days. The court has also permitted the CBI to take Obulapuram Mining Corporation Managing Director B V Srinivas Reddy under its custody for further questioning till September 19.

Future Ambition of Modi

September 14 : Narendra Modi today announced a three-day fast from September 17 as part of a “mission to promote social harmony”, strengthening suggestions that he is positioning himself for a national role on the back of yesterday’s Supreme Court order.

The chief minister, who has timed the fast in Ahmedabad with his 62nd birthday, declared it would be part of a “Sadbhavana Mission” that would continue even after the fast ends and “strengthen Gujarat’s environment of peace, unity and harmony”.

ISI helped Osama bin Laden to escape US dragnet in Tora Bora

New York, September 13: Pakistan’s military-run ISI could have provided protection to slain al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden for a period of time, suggests the latest issue of ‘The New Yorker’ magazine.

Former Afghan intelligence chief Amrullah Saleh told the magazine’ writer Dexter Filkins, a Pulitzer prize winner, that an ISI operative Syed Akbar Sabir had escorted bin Laden from the Pakistani region of Chitral to Peshawar, passing through Kunar Province, in Afghanistan, along the way.

KCR fools Kodandaram and Gaddar

Hyderbad, September 13: All is not well in the TJAC. The much publicized and ambitious Million March is now more or less reduced to a mere rally to tank bund.

The reason for the scaling down of the Million March is none other than KCR. The maverick leader is now not at all interested in the march becoming a success.

The reason is two-fold. One is that KCR has gone into some sort of secret understanding with the congress high command and hence wants to tone down the T agitation.

T-TDP MLA’s to intensify agitation

Hyderabad, September 13: Telugu Desam Party Telangana Forum on Tuesday decided to intensify the agitation for separate Telangana statehood by organizing a series of protests in the region.

In a meeting held at at NTR Trust Bhavan on Tuesday evening, the Forum took unanimous decision to organise a series of programmes aimed at achieving the Telangana state. Later, Dayakar Rao told reporters that Forum has also decided to celebrate September 17 as the ‘Telangana Liberation Day’ at a large scale by hoisting flags.

Hyderabad, September 13: Lagadapati Rajagopal, Congress Lok Sabha member from Vijayawada, was allotted 108 acres of prime land worth Rs 2,000 cr, in Hyderabad’s IT hub Manikonda, by the late Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, when the latter was the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. Rajagopal’s younger brother Lagadapati Sridhar invested Rs 52 cr in two of Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s firms: Rs 31 cr in Jagathi Publications and Rs 21 cr in Sandur Power.

Mumbai, September 13: Ranbir Kappor suffers from vertigo, but for ‘Rockstar’, the star let go off his fear of heights. The actor who usually refrains shooting at great heights went out of his way to assist director Imtiaz Ali film shoot an aerial shot.

Apparently, for a sequence in ‘Rockstar’ a crowd of around 1000 people, gathered for a rock concert, was to be canned and director Imtiaz Ali wanted some serial shots of the scene. The shots on the ground required a great deal of coordination and because of which Ali had to be with the crowd at the ground.

Mumbai blasts: Two suspected IM operatives held

Mumbai, September 13: The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) on Tuesday arrested two suspected operatives of the Indian Mujahideen (IM) terror group, in connection with the July 13 Mumbai serial blasts case.

Sources said the duo was picked up from Meera Road in Mumbai for possessing fake Indian currency.

Both are being questioned and are believed to have made some disclosures about the blasts, as per sources.

The arrests came hours after the ATS, in the first success in the July 13 blasts probe, arrested one suspect from Surat in Gujarat, early this morning.

On 9/11 Moscow Grand Mosque demolished

Washington, September 13: The historical building of the Moscow Grand Mosque was demolished in Moscow last week.

“Workers used special equipment to demolish the building of the historical mosque to the foundation,” Albir Krganov, first deputy chairman of the Central Spiritual Directorate of Muslims and mufti of Moscow and the Central Region of Russia told Interfax-Religion.

Krganov said he was surprised that the day selected for the demolition of the mosque was September 11.

“A tragedy occurred in Moscow on the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks in the U.S.” he said.

Woman strangled to death, robbed of gold jewellery

Hyderabad, September 13: Posing as prospective tenants, robbers gained entry into a house in Neredmet and strangled the land lady to death on Monday afternoon. After killing her, they escaped with gold jewellery worth Rs 1.5 lakh.

The victim was identified as R Surekha, 40, from Rambrahmam Nagar in Old Neredmet. Her husband Suresh runs an electrical appliances store in the neighbourhood.
